Title: use google maps to find new skate spots
Post by: pesto166 on April 11, 2010, 10:27:35 PM
ya so recently I've been too lazy to venture off and find new spots in my area.  i still do drive to a new area and skate around and look for shit.  but now i'm into using google maps "street view".

kinda lame, i know, but fuck i'm saving so much time.  does anybody else do this?  any success?

Most of the time, google maps is dated a few years. So the spot might not be there or have been altered.

i hear a lot of people do this, they just wont admit to it to discourage other people from using it themselves.

i've heard of dudes using google earth to find empty pools.  my boss actually had some skaters come to his house when his pool was drained and try to break in the backyard.  luckily for them he is a cool person and was cool about it.  they told him they found his pool on Google Earth.  pretty mindblowing actually

It seems like a fun thing to do to find spots in other cities or something, but why wouldn't you want to just go cruise and find spots on your own?

I remember on the old eS website it had something like this where you put spots on like a modified google earth and could find them in your area. It had the doctor's office banks in Cincinnati (watch Kelch's epicly later'd)

i heard John Motta does this a lot.

He said in an interview he like to just cruise with his car looking for spots. But that was a few years back, maybe the street view was not covered as much or something.

the ledges you were wondering why no one skates... thats really close to my work and the ground there is terrible/rough. although jaya bonderov did 5050 that insane white handrail, which is totally fucked. fun park to kick it in on a warm day.
