Wouldn't it be more of a cheapshot on Lakai's part? I mean, 90% of the time a pro model shoe is designed by the company's designers, and only has a pro endorsement. Just because the dude who endorsed the shoe switched teams, doesn't give the other company a right to rip off the original manufacturer's shoe. If anybody should have rereleased the Koston 1, it should have been es. I don't understand how Lakai is even allowed to make the Koston 1's now.

Yes 90%. In Kostons case, he designed most of it and then he bought the rights to the shoe. That's how Lakai is allowed to make the K1's.

Buying the rights makes sense. But if that is the case, I guess it's pretty clear that Lakai wasn't going to make MJ1's.

But if we are remaking old pro models from sole tech... how about some Creagers?

I read that a shoe companys design of the exterior are not protected only their technologies used in it. For example Kareem Campbell shoe on Duffs ripped of designs from reeboks workout lo. And another is how Nike air force 1s and BAPEs are the same shoe without a nike logo. this is something i read a few months ago in a mag. So lakai may MAKE THE KOSTON ONE but it may not be as good as es. But for all i know lakai could have just bought koston 1.

Regarding Lakai making the MJ1's.. I read somewhere, on these boards I believe,  that Lakai was planning on re-releasing everyone of their pro's first shoes. That would be so cool! As long as they don't give them crappy colorways like they did with the K1. Hopefully they'll release some better ones.
 
And yes. The Creagers kicked ass.

i was saying its a cheap shot to do it if they knew lakai was about to do the same thing. and i think more than 10% of pro's design their pro model shoe. im pretty sure most all of them have a big say in what their shoe looks like.

I heard most of the time the skater gets a few different shoes to choose from, he chooses the one he likes best, and they stitch his name into it. I bet a lot of time they probably just tell them what they want (vulc/cup sole, leather/suede/synthetic, techy/basic, whatever) and somebody else designs something based on what the guy wants. Sometimes pros design it themselves, but in reality, if we let every dude who was good on a skateboard design his own shoe from scratch, there would be a lot of crap shoes out there, they aren't designers.

I had the brown/gum ones. I locked down kickflips in them. That made me happy. I will probably buy a pair when they come out again.
I think I've liked all the Lakai pros first shoes. The DC Rick Howard 1s were sick.
A Mariano Ares re-release would be sick too. I had the white ones and all the basketball players at my local junior college were super stoked on them.

A Lakai version of the first Rick Howard (or even second Rick Howard) and Mariano Aires would be great.  The Carroll Select is pretty close to Carroll's first shoe when he was on Vans.

On topic it only took Emerica how many years to finally bring back the MJ 1?

I loved that shoe.  I had black and black, black and white (the sickest), and all grey. 

I used to skate only sole tech but I doubt I could now.  At the time I thought there soles were thin (they were at the time) but I tried skating some accels recently and it was like skating in fucking moon boots.

in addition to standing for "Marc," wasn't the "M" originally supposed to somewhat serve as an homage to the 3-stripe of Adidas? MJ used to rock adidas a lot.
