The scummiest of all sell outs

I work in not for profit services for homeless people. We've had payday loans companies call our office saying "Hey we have the same clientele, we put flyers for your service in our office, would you be interested in doing the same?"

Advertising for AMEX is dodgy and lacks total credibility but it's not half as scummy as encouraging people to join the army.

Jaws and Boulala recently advertised for some drug company. That's pretty suss too.

Lastly, if you look on the IG posts comments, 2/3 are people calling him a sell out. I'm sure AMEX will probably look at this and realise they got their target audience wrong. What 30-40 year old gets their financial advice or influence from an ex-pro-skater? They'd be better off appealing to a younger crowd. Maybe get Nyjah or something as your representative. 

Nyjah's card would be covered in white powder and other magic crystals.

Apart from student loans and mortgage im completely out of debt for the first time in 25 years and it feels awesome.  I hate credit cards, I abused them for years, but it's my own fault.

another way to look at this, is that Arto shot some photos for AMEX, they needed to pay him somehow and sending him a card with "money" on it to build something in return for a social media post and an "ambassadorship" doesn't seem that off base these days. a lot of companies use trade to pay people sometimes when budgets are tight. not saying this is the case and AMEX obviously has an insane budget.... but it could be something he worked out with them.

Who is being targeted? Young people.

You don’t pay a pro skateboarder to advertise your credit card company to baby boomers, you do it to advertise it to young people.

Why do credit card companies target young people?

 Because young people DONT have money and don’t understand the kind of debt they are getting into, and can be kept in debt at high interest for years or even decades as a cash cow for these companies.

Say what you want about red bull, monster, rockstar, nike, adidas, converse, etc. They all are problematic, but none even compare to pushing credit card debt on young adults.

If an artist of any variety refuses to capitalize on their ability by hiring themselves out as the spokesperson for some shitbag company, they deserve respect.
