big up to all the nba fans in here, you know what time it is, miami at boston then houston at la on tnt, phoenix and portland also but not on nat'l tv.
this year my heart will be in my place of birth, chicago, and will be running with the bulls. i think they can make a serious run, derrick rose will probably emerge as the best pg in the L now that he's got some real help. the race in the east will be the best its ever been, honestly couldn't tell you who'll make it out of there into the finals, the only sure thing is that there won't be any team that'll prevent the la lakers from 3-peating.

As far as I know The Spurs did absolutely nothing in the offseason to make themselves better, but obviously I'll still root for them. Will definitely be checking out tonight's Celtics vs. Dwayne Wade's Heat game.

i remember watching the world championships earlier this year and the announcers were blowing up some brazilian dude when they played against usa, splitter i think his name was, 6-11 forward that the spurs picked up, should help bulk up that front line with duncan and blair.
bummed that i'll be missing the heat/celts game cause of work, was really looking forward to seeing that shit.

Since Lebron sold out I am not going to be watch the NBA much this year. Hopefully the Cavs will be decent, but I won't hold my breath.

I think the Heat only make it more interesting this year. There has been a lot of odd trades this year where the NBA should be interesting. I am just not about repeats and it looks like the Heat could give LA a run for their money. I am excited this year but also it has to do with cause i am a big fucking Laker hater.
Oh....and I am Warriors fan....and I know (again) they will do nothing this year but I still love those guys.

Hell yeah, I lost some interest in the NBA when Kemp and Payton were done running the Sonics. I'm starting to get back into watching more games especially now with Kevin Durant in the league. Thunder are serious, I'm hoping they can build a market around the team and stay around for a while. I think Orlando will finish ahead of the Heat this year and LA will take another title.

Boston vs Miami on TNT right now. the big 3 sure aren't all they're cracked up to be (so far.) i hate both these teams since i'm a Laker fan, but i'm sort of rooting for Shaq. that dunk he did that got the crowd riled up in the 1st quarter was fly. he must've gotten like 3-4 inches of air on that one!

Im predicting 42-40 as well and the 7th seed, but that can change depending on carmelo. The bench is actually pretty decent and that isn't what will hurt us another than backup pg, if felton goes down they're FUCKED, my real concern is rebounded nobody was grabbing boards his preseason.

Of course I realize that. But 8 points? you think a guy that is part of the "big 3" and getting paid 14.5 million a year should be a complete non factor against good defensive teams?
I know bandwagon Miami fans are going to brush off any criticism with the notion that they need more playing time together and once they get comfortable they will be the best blah blah blah; which is true to some extent, they are going to get better as the season goes on, but if they think that their team will be as dominant as they thought in the off-season when they were all geeked up on their signings, then miami fans are in for a big disappointment.

how was it a superstar driven league when "the bad boys" ran shit in the late 80's? They had a couple big names, but they didn't have Bird, Magic or any of the other "superstars" at the time? They had a good core of guys who meshed well together. And that ended when Michael Jordan hit his prime and dominated til he was done.
plus the officals are beyond comical on all of the calls, and no-calls. If someone on the inside breathes on Lebron wrong when he's driving the lane, he shoots two, but Russell Westbrook could get raped on his way to the basket and get nothing.

I agree on the Bosh statement. Bosh on the Raptors is one thing but Bosh on the Heat is a whole different story. His talents will get snuffed by Lebron and Wade.

If you wanna make that argument that the pistons run in 89 and 90 was proof that the 80s had no superstar bias, you could say the same thing about how the 04 Pistons killed probably the most stacked team in Lakers history as proof that the 00's werent superstar bias. But we know it aint true.
Even if I did agree with you and said superstar bias began in Jordan's Prime era instead of the magic-bird era, thats still 20 damn years ago.
Basically I am saying the superstar bias has been around for a long ass time, and the NBA has been watchable since 06-07....so watch some games lol.

yeah buddy. Kevin Martin looking pretty good this season, and Brad Miller's old crusty ass is a great addition. Lots of experience. However that game against Golden State was piss poor. You can't allow Monta Ellis to have 46 points. Think we're playoff bound.
Like I said, at least Bosh stepped down and basically accepted he's not a franchise player.
And I would be surprised if the clippers didn't make the playoffs. Kaman, Davis(given he actually puts in effort this season), and Griffin.

Wow the Lakers are looking stacked. The three B's; Brown, Blake, and Barnes are killing it off the bench. I can only imagine how deep the second unit will be when Bynum comes back and Odom comes off the bench. I also think this is going to be Pau's best year. The Spaniard is all over the place, flirting with a triple double.

I like Davis just as much as the next guy, but he doesn't play to his potential. dude has the perfect structure for a point guard. He was insane when he was with the Hornets. Seems like he has no motivation. He's got the Tmac syndrome. The clippers have a shitty coach to boot. Talent wise it's all there, sure it's only a matter of time before it works.

The Knicks have been looking mighty good, they're two loses were against real good teams (celtics and blazers) and they're three wins they pretty much beat up on equal (bulls) and inferior competition(wizards and raptors). Chandler, Felton, and Amare have been absolute studs and with Gallinari getting back into his groove and the youngsters making major contributions, it looks like the Knicks might finally be back after a decade of pure misery.

I'm a Laker fan, and that is one guy I really really miss. He was so fun to watch because it didn't matter if he was playing or on the bench, he would always get you excited with his crazy energy.

i was pretty pissed they got killed by the knicks the other night, so i'm thankful the baby bulls got the win tonight. even though they were doing that lame fouling when up by 3 to have the other team only shoot 2 foul shots at the end of reg. its the smart play though. i am real excited to see how the team will do when boozer finally is out there.

i have no idea whose the mvp so far, cp3 would prolly be my #1 choice right now. sure the lakes are 7-0 and are looking good, but they've played no one notable at all and should have beaten those teams anyway. i just watched chris paul drop 19 assists on friday night against the conbustable miami heat, that dude also can hit the jumper every time. no question the best pg in the league, and is definitely a top 3 player right now.
not getting it twisted, lakers are the most unbeatable team that i've probably ever seen, just need to wait til after decemeber to confirm my assessment that they can win over 72 games this season.

the Jazz took out the Heat in Miami. I looked at the score at half time and the Jazz were getting killed and I assumed the game was over... then I heard the news during the Laker game that the Heat lost their third game of the season and I couldn't believe it. Lebron has a triple double, Wade has 39 points, Bosh gets 17 and 9, and a 20+ point lead but that was no match for Paul Milsap who went off! 11 points in the last 30 seconds including the game tying basket at the buzzer! 46 total.
Indiana dropped 144 on the Nuggets and made 20 consecutive shots; yes 20
Hornets and Lakers remain undefeated.

the Jazz took out the Heat in Miami. I looked at the score at half time and the Jazz were getting killed and I assumed the game was over... then I heard the news during the Laker game that the Heat lost their third game of the season and I couldn't believe it. Like I said, the outcomes of the games were not the point. I agree with you on the orlando being a bit overrated, that no one gives a shit about the pacers and they aren't going anywhere, but those great performances are fun to watch. Just because Utah won't get by the top western conference teams doesn't mean I'm going to tune out an Jazz exciting game and say"eh who cares they are going to lose in the second round anyways." If all you do is look at the big picture then there is really no point in watching the regular season. It's more fun taking in one regular season game at a time.
This whole notion that the Heat "have no clue what they are doing out there" is not reasonable. Especially in crucial parts of the game? Wade was going off and getting his, Lebron was getting to the free throw line at will, Bosh was even making key shots late in the game, but they were missing free throws while Paul Millsap was draining 3's out of nowhere. Just because three superstars are getting used to playing with each other doesn't mean they are not capable holding a 19 point halftime lead at home, especially since they have had great defense though this early season. The Heat will be better on months to come, but they will not be some drastically changed team that looks nothing like they do now.

Miami does have great perimeter defense, In the games I watched they suffocated the shit out of the bulls and nets. They are number 1 in fewest points given up by only allowing 90.1 points per game. they have the ultimate blueprint to winning championships now, they can really shut teams on defense in man or in zone, two dominate 7 footers, solid leadership at the pg position in fish, the greatest coach that ever lived, and i don't even to speak on this generation's michael jordan in kobe. their bench mob is the best i've seen in years with barnes and shannon brown really coming into his own early on. i know they got theo ratliff which fucks everything up, but shit man, i don't see any team that can fuck with these lakers in a 7 game series

Yeah I could see why you say that. Nash has been in the league longer and has a better track record so it's hard to compare the two. Nash has always been one of my favorites to watch, I absolutely love how the guy plays. Nash has his MVPs, Gasol has his championships and was the main guy who changed the Lakers from being mediocre to a championship team.
The Lakers deserved that loss, good god they played horrendous during those last 5 minutes.

I was at Warrior game last night and they had a discount on tickets, food and liquor for half off cause they are under new management. Sounds sad but I have never bought a 24oz beer for only $4.50! Good times...even though Warriors almost blew a 32 point lead against the Pistons to only win it by 4 last night. I'll take the W though.
I'm a pistons fan and this game made me cry myself to sleep. It was hard enough to stay awake long enough for the west cost start, let alone sit through and watch such a lack luster effort on defense. When I woke up and seen that they only lost by four, I couldnt even believe it.

^^^^Shots just weren't going in for the Pistons. Then Warriors put in their 3rd string players and then it started getting pretty bad. I don't mind letting them play but when the gap gets closer, it's time to take them out and put the nail in the coffin. And gotta give some props to your Piston fans. Some hardcore dude's just in a sea of Warrior fans and it didn't even phase them to just root for their team like they're winning.

You Clippers fans are pretty lucky to be able to watch Griffin develop over the next couple years, watching him tonight he really is Amare 2.0 with the potential to be even better, he straight went off. I really hope the Clipper curse doesnt get him and that his days of knee troubles are over, if any fanbase deserves a player as exciting as this, its the Clippers'. Not sure how much truth there is to this but I had read the Heat didn't really draw up many, if any, offensive plays before the season started because they just thought it would work.

So rumor has it the Lakers and Nuggets are in preliminary talks in a deal that would send Carmelo to LA for Bynum. Bynum alone is a million times better than anything the Knicks have to offer. Caremlo to the Lakers would be pretty cool, but at the same time I hate when teams are overloaded with superstars. NBA blockbuster trades are always fun because they can come out of nowhere, no matter what the reporters say.

Let melo rest his head in NY. theyll just get beat up by the C's like everyone else in the east.

No way would they trade Bynum and Lamar. It could very well be Bynum straight up for Carmelo. For me it is still a toss up. Centers like Bynum that can post up and score more than just 10 points, rebound, and play good defense are pretty much non-existent in NBA, but he has yet to prove he can do it consistantly .Yeah the Lakers would be trading away size but it is not like they utilize the fact that they have 2 seven footers. Pau and Bynum play like pussies against tough/good teams. And it feels like it is only a matter of time before Bynum has another knee injury. At the same time Carmelo is no tough guy himself, but at least on offense he wouldn't back down against teams like Boston, Miami, Dallas, or San Antonio.
If the Carmelo in purple and yellow deal doesn't go down, then the Lakers should get Kirk Hinrich, bench fisher or trade Artest for Gerald Wallace. I love D-Fish but he needs to come off the bench and not start. Both Fisher and Artest are huge liabilities on offense, not to mention Fisher cannot keep up with any point guards on defense.

Well with some of the comments he has made, that rival hat will turn into the hat for the team he plays for come 2012. But I totally agree, for one the guy isn't even funny, he is just a lame goof with nerdy humor. If he had the Charles Oakley mentality like you mentioned, he would be a fucking unstoppable beast on the court. To me he has been the same player for like the past 3 or 4 years, everybody keeps talking about his potential and what will happen when he develops a low post up game, but he still seems to be the guy who gets a lot of his points off dunks and put backs, and his finesse game is still sporadic. With all that said, he is still damn good.

it's halftime right now between the Knicks and the Heat. Knicks just went on a 16-0 run and nailed the three at the buzzer. they're up by one, 52-51. hope this game remains close. been fun to watch, so far.

yo, i completely forgot about this shit! i don't even remember drafting anyone. goddamn, i'm doing horrible but my squad is kinda nice hah.
man, from that time up til 2 weeks ago i managed to go on a 3 month drinking binge, buying single malt scotch bottles weekly and belgian abbey beers daily, get a job and then quit, wreck my car, went to 3 of the heat's big gms (boston the 1st time, dallas and sundays ny gm all losses lol), caught all the big prem/la liga/cl matches on the tele, did way too many drugs, got the flu and went thru the worse detoxification of drugs/alcohol for 4 days, busted in a strippers mouth in one of the most ghetto strip jawns for 300 bucks, went thru 3 boards, a pairs of aces and 2 sets of spits, 1 iphone, and start talking to a 21 yr old chick who works here for 2/3 weeks at a time, then goes home to rip city for a month. not in order.
at no point did i ever think i was winning. in fact, i'd never been that manically depressed in my life. i was working a 10-11 hr day job, never sitting down, carrying shit all day for over 40 hrs a wk. i was still getting part time wages but the ot hrs were time and a half so i wasn't doing bad. but my back's been so mangled, i to wear a back brace to support my lower back cause the middle would go numb. trying to skate was horrible. i'd be ailing so bad mentally/phyiscally at wrk, then be so happy getting fucked up with my friends later that night. i'd wake up every morning straight loathing myself in ways that aren't worth mentioning. i hate that i'm constantly in conflict with my conscience every min of every day.
all that being said, i'm doing much better now, been taking it easy at home living off my tax return and a couple days away from skating again, feeling more anxious than anything else, cause its going to take forever just to back nosegrind 180. sorry for the wack confession and shit, i check this thread more or less everyday and i saw mccracken's post and had to find an excuse for sleeping thru this fantasy league, mad bummed right now that i had to go off like this hahah

The one before half time was awesome. In the 4th quarter when there was 10 seconds on the clock but a few timeouts to try and stretch the game still, people were already out of their seats and leaving. Then they were within 3 with possession and he got the defender to jump, it looked like he hesitated too long deciding if he should try to jump into him to get the free throws and by the time he decided to take a real shot it was a little too late. This was the second game I went to this season, the other being OKC at Orlando, and had never really been inside a major sports arena until this year, these buildings are Coliseum level awe inspiring from the inside. The traffic getting to and leaving the stadium is terrible though, I-4 is more of a parking lot than highway half the time anyway but after Magic games are the absolute worst.

Then again Lebron makes another three point play, and again more "MVP" chants; this time while Wade was on the floor. Fast forward to the fourth quarter. Dwayne Wade starts to go off and he makes a three point play. This is followed by chants of "MVP". I sat there speechless, mouth ajar. Do the fans think that it is "Most Valuable PlayerS"? Or do all their fans suffer from short term memory loss? Or even the mob mentality getting the best of everyone? Which ever it is, I can safely say if you are a fan of the Miami Heat, I hate you with all my soul.

The Mavericks are playing opposite of the soft and not clutch labels that have been associated with them for so long. The Lakers once again looked of of whack. Kobe changes is approach every game, Pau plays like a pussy, Fisher remains to be old and only good for a few jump shots, the bench is non existent, and Bynum is the only one playing well and with consistently. The only thing missing tonight was a few corner three pointer air balls by Ron Ron. If the Mavs do indeed take this series I can't be too bitter because you just can't hate on guys like Dirk and Kidd getting another shot at that elusive championship.

No doubt, Peja is playing like he is all of a sudden back in 2002, Terry is shooting 3's like they are layups, Dirk seems like he can make off balance one foot shots like they are nothing. They're defense has been surprising amazing as well. I think the one thing to worry about is the time off between the next series. It is good to get rest and all of that, but keeping that momentum going is even better.

Doubtful. Even if he doesn't get the Golden State job, he is bound to land as a head coach somewhere. It sucks, he didn't even get interviewed by the Lakers. The sweep pretty much sealed the deal with him not having a future in LA. I always thought things would work out when Phil retired because there were guys like Kurt Rambis and Shaw waiting in the wings or even a guy like Byron Scott who's dream is to coach the Lakers, but clearly that didn't work out the way I thought it would. Of course Phil has to retire in a year when the field for potential head coaches is pretty weak.

I understand the game completely and I will say that saying he's the worst I've seen in a while is a bit of an overstatement, I should have just said that he has been disappointing to me. I'm aware of what he's done and I've never quite been impressed. Him being second or third all defensive team is fine but it also means that there just aren't great big men in the league right now. He wasn't even in foul trouble last night and his "help defense"... he was getting drawn out of the key to double up on Mario Chalmers. Not acceptable. I know he's a key component to the team, but if he really played to the potential he has, there is no way Miami would even win one game in this series.

yeah no shit... that's why they are still angry about it. Not only was he the best thing to happen to the Cavaliers, he was the best thing that happened to Cleveland and probably the whole state of Ohio (although the buckeyes are hard to top).
Yeah I think the it's about time for them to move past it but you have to consider how much his departure sucked the life out of everything and everybody. They had a hometown kid who had the potential to be one the greatest ever, he rejuvenated that city and state, and brought a glimmer of hope to the misery of professional sports in Cleveland. They know nothing could get any better than that; the best opportunity has come and gone... that's pretty deflating. Being a Lakers fan, I know when they fall off it will only be a short period of time until they climb back to the top because they have the luxury of being in a big market like Los Angeles.
