? have a somewhat similar but a really positive experience. When I was 14, PJ skated in this rather small contest in Finland. He would not skate the course at all expect for his contest runs, he just sat in the corner. I think he skated for a total of 3-5 minutes the whole weekend. He landed pretty much everything first try, nollie flipped in to a quarterpipe and won the contest. I thing it was just before the WHL - video came out and he was not well known yet. It was a magical experience for my teenage brain.
Your tapping into my own PJ story here. I entered the same contest, the Pro Skate that was in Hartwall arena, i think?
It was pretty crazy how he didn't touch the course at all - he skated flat behind the course the whole time, dropped in and won. Had no idea who he was, I think I had seen an element ad with him before that, but nothing else.
Here's the thing though, me and my friend connected somehow with him, and went street skating in Helsinki with him a whole day, just us three. Skated the black marble ledges that is outside a museum or something? And a few other spots. He was friendly but a bit quiet.
A week or so after I was at a WESC shop in Stockholm and they just got a new video, the WHL video.. I put it in and got blown away. Nobody believed me when I told them I just had skated with that guy.
Thats like one of my all-time favorite skate hing to happen to me. Im happy it happen before the video though, after it would have just been us star strucked basically.
