Hell on Earth remains to be one of the most overlooked albums ever. Love that album almost start to finish. Such dark beats and Mobb Deep never really had a radio hit on the album at all and yet people still love their stuff. I remember I just bought it on the strength of The Infamous but a lot of folks were not happy but I still played it to the point where I loved the album.

I liked the hook and the beat but the 'looking boy' lines are not by him, dunno if they count as a quotation. Overall I'm not a big fan either but he does belong to rap/ the music industry...

Trife Life and More Trife Life will always be in my top 10...the beats are insanely sparse and the storytelling is incredibly gripping.

I got into Mobb Deep when I was in "jail" being kicked out of the Navy (I was only in for 3 days and then in the separations division (jail) for a month and a half). There was this fella in there who was studying some Egyptian religion book called the Metu Neter (sp?) and he turned me on to them. This was back in '95. I've loved The Infamous and then Hell on Earth ever since. Stories I can't even begin to comprehend, but they somehow made it relate-able to this queer white kid from Albuquerque.

I hear you, Gay. That's a testament to those dudes and just how good they are at their craft. So gritty, real and relate-able on a lot of levels.

On a side note, I'd also be interested in hearing more about your experiences you touched on in that post.

Man Down is the only skippable track on Hell on Earth.

Brand Nubian...I loved what I heard of theirs but for whatever reason I never purchased anything of theirs. I could never tell if they were officially part of the Native Tongue Family or not...I know Tribe mentioned them a lot, but I don't think they were.

Speaking of the Native Tongue Family, were the Jungle Brothers like the bosses? Did they toss out Black Sheep after their second album was released and it completely blew chunks? These are the things that keep me up at night.

So with you on that. I was a huge fan of the Native Tongue family and their style of rap. Brand Nubian weren't part of it, but they were sort of in the same circles. It was De La Soul, Black Sheep, Jungle Brothers, Tribe, Leaders of The New School.

And I couldn't agree more on Black Sheep. It was like their 2nd album was written by someone entirely different than their first. As if they sold their soul for a hit then went to shit.

Oh it's just as good, if not a bit better. Lots of 80s samples, classic bronson lines and his cousin talking an ungodly amount of trash.
