I'm half-way through 37 and the last couple of years have been pretty miserable - just too much time between sessions and I've been stuck on trying to solidify my basics again and not even being great at that.
This last year I've built a home gym and my biggest motivation for strength training is being functionally strongc so I can continue to skate forever. And I believe my steady work is paying off, just not in very fast. I would love to gain some pop over my best years.
I've made it my mission to skate at least once per week, no matter when I get the time. This means going on sessions in the scorching heat, frying my brains, skating alone etc. All that perseverance paid off today, when I landed a nollie heel fs noseslide (15 inch tall ledge, didn't slide far), while I still have trouble doing 50-50s on the same ledge. Disclaimer: this combo feels very natural and almost easy to me, so I've made no real progress skill-wise, but it sure does have a nice sound to it.
It feels funny when you can do hundreds of tricks, but they all take the same amount of effort almost, be it the most basic shit to some tech combo I did 10 years ago. I really got a good morale boost today and we've finally got a indoor skatepark nearby, so I hope I can do a session per week in the winter months as well (so I won't loose "feeling on the board").
