Title: What does SLAP stand for?
Post by: Home Skillet on November 11, 2008, 10:25:48 PM: ;D I've been reading SLAP since it came out in the early 90's and I can't believe I just now found out. Before I thought it was just the reverse of PALS but I was wrong.

Yeah, this is it. I saw it on the tag on one of my old SLAP shirts. Never paid attention to it before but when I read I was dumbfounded. Dumb being the root word.

I did an interview with Joe Brook last year and he told me SLAP means ‘Skateboarders Looking At Photos’,…..or whatever you want it to be….. that said, i object to the term "progression" as it suggest the existence of some kind of teleological end point towards which skateboarding is headed... ive banned my students from using the word in class or their essays

When the powers-that-be told me they had a name, this is how they described it. I wasn't a big fan of the name Slap at first but it grew on me. I always thought of it as "Simply, Lance's Art Project". Skate Like Alan Peterson was another one of my favorites. Super Laminated Assault Planks? The one the makes the most sense though is Skaters Looking At Photos.
