It's gonna be T-funk, I don't get it but I've never seen China Banks in person so I don't have a credible opinion

I'm also skeptical of SOTY being 100% rigged. Like they definitely will keep guys in mind and be like "oh he's been killing it for the last three years and didn't get picked so he's kinda due for it" but I don't think there's ever a 100% chance they know Delfino is going to get it next year or something. Definitely agree the industry aspect of it can influence the choices but they do have to follow public opinion to some extent or people will completely stop giving a fuck about the award at all, and SOTY is one of the most valuable things Thrasher still has brand-wise. Editorial/industry choices will give somebody a nudge over the edge if it's closer to 50/50 (like Louie and TFunk) but I don't think they can really preemptively award people the way people are saying

I love Tyshawn and his skating, but one cover and if he releases a part here sometime soon, for me shouldn’t equate to SOTY. There’s other skaters who have put forth a lot more effort and quality skate content I feel.

TJ’s cover is gnarly but one cover doesn’t deserve SOTY imo. Louie had multiple parts and also a gnarly cover. T Funk had a part and a cover. So unless he drops a part soon, I don’t see it happening.

You sure about that? Most soty contenders have been  putting out quantity over quality, and I think tyshawn’s output is the opposite of that.

I think having one of the most memorable covers of all time, and one great part (assuming he drops one soon) is plenty. That’s how it was pre instagram

Unfair for Lou really that Burnette had to groom him into a corner, to the point where we can't just enjoy his skating for what it is instead of scratching our heads wondering if what we're watching is SOTY worthy or not.

I think Tiago could switch ollie it. I don’t want to take away from his skating- it’s obviously very impressive but he already won a SOTY for hopping over big obstacles so it seems a bit much to give him another for something similar. Unless  he’s got something different coming out.

Don't know how strict they are with the what counts as what year thing. Suciu got announced start of Dec so possible they'd already decided before the other covers had come out. (Altho I guess by that logic the two covers were prob also shot way before they came out)

There is not now nor has there ever been any sort of requirement that the footage be filmed in the year the trophy is awarded. You’re acting like there are rules rather than Thrasher’s editorial staff simply picking a winner.

I'm a huge DeKeyzer and Louie fan. I was hyped on DeKeyzer's new part but I have to disagree with your assertion that it shits all over Louie's footage from this last year. I'd be stoked if either one of them gets it. Louie has a significantly higher chance than DeKeyzer imo

These days it's whoever spends the most time sitting in LA traffic with Burnette (Lou) unless somebody else comes out swinging that's undeniably bigger / better / more influential (Tyshawn)

Don't get me wrong, I appreciate Louie's skating, and yes he's had a lot of coverage lately. There's just such a long list of dudes that skate on that level and beyond. Craziest part of all is that Louie rides for Hardies and Tyshawn is clearly gunning for it on 'Louie's Year'.
