That would be neat if skateboarders in America, started the hand holding culture of male friends, like in the Middle East. If I ever saw Stevie, and Weck, walking down the street, in a completely platonic hand embrace, I would giggle with joy and try to weasel in on a platonic three way.

Since everything is a nirvana and (shoe) companies tried to relive the 90's well now its 20 years since 2000 so here comes the revival of the tillys look AKA dickies shorts, famous starts and strap shirts and DC manteca's or Etnies callicuts. Right?!?
I mean, last time I saw that much sock was in the jorts thread.
Okay, indulge me for a sec; what if... what IF...
What if BOTH the jorts AND capri-pants-for-guys trends were secretly manufactured and cultivated by the big footwear companies to better display/advertise their products?!?
Maybe this belongs in the conspiracies thread.
-
/\ After seeing the way one of the Am Scrambler folks in new Thrasher was kinda propping up his sports footwear into frame in the photo, this theory of jorts/capris/footwear logo exposure incentive doesn’t seem to far off from a non-conspiracy theory train of thought.

Contemporary tech shoes with air-bubbles, shoes with sock liners, DC shoes will become slightly puffier/bigger, Axion will come out and old heads will go nuts for it but they'll mostly be unsuccessful
on the other end of the spectrum - skaters who only rock Cons or Vans right now will switch to Last Resort AB, they'll become the most popular shoes in the game aside from Nike, Pontus will put together a really sick team and a handful of short videos that will be some of the best to come out all year.

In 2021 it will be considered wack to skate Nike SBs
Nike probably isn't going away, but Dunks are. The trend popped off this time because Travis Scott and Virgil Abloh liked them, but those guys liked them because skaters wore them. But now skaters don't wear Dunks anymore because they can't get them. Philly Santosuosso is the only person I remember seeing in SB Dunks in the last 6 months who wasn't a wealthy middle schooler. Once it gets through to the larger culture that Dunks are for 12 year olds, they're done. I think there are Supreme collab Dunks coming out soon? That's probably about the end of it. I'm pretty sure Nike has already started pivoting back to Jordan Retros as their hype shoes of the week.

Xbox will start kicking Sony’s ass in summer 2021 with an onslaught of announced Xbox Gamepass exclusives
Nah there's no point in Xbox rn. A console is just a really underpowered pc and all Xbox exclusives are coming to win10. That combined with the huge value from the new Nvidia and amd cards = why would anyone even consider buying console?
Thanks for making me feel better about just spending a bunch of money to build a gaming PC. It will also be for working at home, so I'm still a responsible adult.

I can imagine that Berle single-handedly killed the high water pant style and made it unwearable for the next year or so. until now you could get away with not being labeled as a dylan clone, especially with wider cut high water pants. but what Berle delivered was so far too much and out of it that it is probably general nonsense that everyone who is still wearing high water now or just starting wearing them is a complete kook.
imagine a girl or younger skater that startet past the Dylan era coming up to you complimenting you for your fashion choices. But you know they think you idolize Elijah Berle and think you see him as an inspiration.

Oh man also I’m surprised people haven’t mentioned masks. Or bandanas. That’s a trend that isn’t going away yet. A nice bandana around the neck goes well with some bootcut jeans and a trucker hat...

I started to wonder about boot cut watching Shimizu. But, Markovich and Fowler are the two other guys who stand out to me as boot cut guys. Can we discuss the terrible fashion choices Greco DID NOT make? All that also got me wondering about bowl cuts because Shimizu had a pretty good one.

I only started listening to them recently, listened to a bit from other albums but I just can't stop listening to Lateralus. Every time I think about trying to get into a different album I just go back to that one again. Listened through 10,000 days the other day and it seemed good, need to a few more listens though.

Are even more skaters gonna let us know they surf in 2021 or did that peak this year? I’m not hating, just jealous of their sweet Cali/Euro breaks.
I say surfing is over, cross country skiing (classic not skate) will be next.
And looks like I’ll be ahead of the curve on this one because I was just out today, and it was beautiful
(https://i.ibb.co/fCWX2VK/D9-B00-BAE-A3-D9-479-E-AA7-B-63-B49111-B01-C.jpg) (https://ibb.co/fCWX2VK)
In the winter thread I mentioned that I bought skin based skis with the intention of exploring around my area when there’s snow. It’s helping me scratch the outdoor exploring itch that skateboarding fulfills when the weather is warm. And since all the snow resorts here are closed, it’s nice to be able to say “fuck it, I’m making my own fun.”
Oh yeah, 2021: skating in morphsuits. Is it a mask? Who’s to say? Green screen possibilities...

Skating flat curb and mannie isnt anything different from figure skating.
And figure skating isnt any less cool than skating but in my opinion it is but i live in a bubble. its still the same in a way.
Its about technichal difficulty and style at the same time.
When i skate flat i try to ride in in a big circle doing as many tricks without falling.
Only difference is that they have Trainers most of the time and get judged by a jury from 1-10. Wait a minute...

exactly, and how would anyone know about that anyway? it's basically just a general accusation of being a poser in some way with no way to back it up. those people that start an inquisition about how well you know that bands backcatalogue and entire history when they see you wearing a shirt or patch of them are also the worst.

this is blatant poser shit. I remember this one time I saw this semi hippy skater with a sick Satori wheels shirt at a park. I told the told the dude that his shirt was sick after he gave me a little fist bump for landing some trick. He looked confused, so I said again “your Satori wheels shirt is sick”. Dude looked me in the face and said “I just found this at Arc and I thought it was a band, that’s cool that they make wheels too”. I looked at his set up and he had fresh bones spf.

Sure it’s annoying when celebrity du juor is wearing hardcore band x’s shirt in a fab photo shoot, but there appears to be a disconnect w/ a lot of people in this regard.
Fan: Whereas I love a certain musical ensemble’s creative output & hope they will continue to produce content for my enjoyment for years to come, I ALSO want to keep them in my pocket so they aren’t pressured by record companies to bend their audio “vision” in order to cater to the tastes of a growing market base; I hope they can pay their bills on the money that I, alone, give them for records, t-shirts, downloads, patches, whatever, so that they can continue to make the unadulterated music I so adore.
Tough bind to find yourself in, I suppose.
Personally, I wish all artists every success, considering how few of them ever actually get to a point where they can live comfortably of their earnings.
But what do I know? I mostly listen to news because I’m old & boring.

yeah i get that, and i agree it's lame to fake the funk, i just think that assuming that most people don't know what they are wearing is probably incorrect. especially when it comes to obscure hardcore/punk merch, you have to look rather deep for that. sure, there are always people wearing a slayer shirt and they maybe know two songs at all, but mostly people actually listen to the bands whose merch they rock i'd reckon. i own tons of band shirts and i don't mind when someone comes up and tells me they like the shirt/band, but it sucks that almost everytime i wear my (visibly 15 years old!) joy division shirt, that's not even the unknown pleasures album cover, i also often get a "do you actually listen to that band?" or "you know that's an actual band right?" from random strangers and i usually react really pissed about it because i find these questions annoying and it's really nobody's business actually.

This shit was already a trend a few years ago when Justin Bieber was wearing Metallica shirts and Rihanna was wearing Black Flag shirts so at every single fast fashion shop they had bare band shirts. Also happens with all the supreme shit where peeps will buy a Nas supreme shirt but the only nas song they know is I can

That’s why you get to know the person with the band shirt, become friends, hang out often, then - maybe years later - you put on the band in question on a road trip. If they ask what it is you say “you fucking poser! You wear the shirt but you’ve never even heard them?!” Then you kick them out of the car hundreds of miles from home and completely ghost them.

Oh man also I’m surprised people haven’t mentioned masks. Or bandanas. That’s a trend that isn’t going away yet. A nice bandana around the neck goes well with some bootcut jeans and a trucker hat...
And by “nice” I just mean that there is some precedent, not that it actually looks cool
BA is rocking a neck bandana in his new Ace ad
But now I’m also noticing that the past year had a big spike in people wearing bandanas over their hair, pirate style. It’s a terrible trend and I hope it stops but it probably has a bit more upswing before it’s over.

Dude looked me in the face and said “I just found this at Arc and I thought it was a band, that’s cool that they make wheels too”. I looked at his set up and he had fresh bones spf.
White hippies should just be cancelled in skateboarding 2021
What about brown hippies?
they are fine
And why is that?
Cause they're not white hippies. Duh.

I’m really hatin’ the Bugle Boy mannequin/late-80s strip-mall CPA vibe. Fuck outta here with your braided belt and rugby shirt tucked into the sky-high white chinos. This is not a good look.
+1 gave me a lol at work

Look up what Greco is doing, and Carpet Co been on that artesianal flame.
I think all those snakes are talking about the guys actually making hand cut, hand shaped boards; Sea Rat, Pete's Pigs and such.

Indeed. Would Shop, Sea Rat, Pete's Pigs. People who are either pressing and shaping their own boards, or else buying premade blanks, shaping them either custom or in small batches, and then selling directly, usually to followers on Instagram

exactly, and how would anyone know about that anyway? it's basically just a general accusation of being a poser in some way with no way to back it up. those people that start an inquisition about how well you know that bands backcatalogue and entire history when they see you wearing a shirt or patch of them are also the worst.
I berated a girl back in my teens about her tshirt and what she knew about the band. She told me to fuck off, she liked the band. I still see her around and it is one of the most embarrassing things I've done. The band in question are having a revival so I was shitting myself I would see her at a local gig (pre covid).

House music is still maintaining an upward trajectory and could apex soon. Especially if clubs reopen. Trick wise I feel like we are in for a weird technical kind of year.

i feel like a bit of a doodle doing this, but the word you guys were looking for regarding Pete's Pigs etc is artisan, not artesian. artesian wells are those where the water you are welling is supplied by natural pressure - so you don't need to pump it out.

There's a group of bands I almost don't count in this conversation for this very reason.
Ac/DC, Misfits, Ramones etc.
I'm talking more about bands that are closer to their respective scenes mainly in punk and metal. I don't really care if someone just want to wear a Joy Division shirt because they think it looks nice.

So you've been to their concert and is a friend of the band, but still think someone would heckle you for not knowing the name of the songs? Are you stupid? You have even more right to wear the band tee at this point, this is the complete opposite of never having listened to the music or not even knowing it's a band. Anyway, the t-shirt being for the bands is a good point, even if wearing clothes from a specific sub-culture just for the style is still a kook move.

Honestly, the surf pants are worth a try (if you don't mind the price). I'm not even a big fan of polar, but theres no denying these are some of the most comfortable pants i've ever skated in. Especially if you live somewhere where the humidity gets bad in the summer. Just my two cents

Shit man, for a magnum opus of cinematography like this, they were probably there for weeks. For real though, the filming is kind of impressive in an annoying, disorienting way. I like to imagine that was the intention, like the filmer is a cinema buff, whose use of extreme close ups and panicked panning is meant to evoke a sense of foreboding claustrophobia, as an homage to film noir.

Starting a new trend is making everyone hate what you’re doing until someone decides to copy it for attention, then it grows from there. Like Fat Bill’s filming style.

would love to see headbands make a comeback. that would be an evolution that would eliminate the beanie part and be even more airy. i especially want to see balding skaters rock em. that would be awesome. bald on top, headband, some leftover hair sticking out under. like total idgaf.

Heath nods. In the sense that other pros, that aren't Heath, will try to emulate the Heath nod when they meet fans.

More companies will put out full length/long videos. It will not be because of the love of the medium or that they have enough quality footage. It will be because you can tack on three to four ad breaks to a 40 minute Youtube video as opposed to one ad on a five minute edit.

One ad per five minutes is a better rate than 3-4 per 40min. Better to drop 6-8 five min parts in the time it takes to compile a full length. Your logic doesn't check out.

Did someone already say pros having an only fans would be a trend? All it takes is one trend setter to start the wave.

Professional skateboarders will transition to other activities and be successfully sponsored/paid for it. Skateboarding will be something they do on Sundays as a side hobby.
Edit: I also think there will be other skaters starting their own business as skateboarding is too competitive and uncertain as a main source of income. like Tyshawn invested on the restaurant industry..You will see more of it.

Costco more of a suburb thing. their brand is called Kirkland cuz it started in Kirkland WA, a bedroom community for Microsoft employees.

Totally true, for instance some Kirkland coffee varieties are made by Starbucks. Here is an overview of some brands behind Kirkland:
https://moneywise.com/life/lifestyle/the-big-brands-behind-costcos-kirkland-signature-items
Their smoked salmon from Norway is epic, you can also get a handle of 1.5l Kirkland vodka for $14.99
Costco is seriously amazing, don't write it off as some kind of cheap, 'rural' shopping option. You can go top shelf at Costco with snazzy European mineral water, caviar, and more. They also sell more organic food than WholeFoods per year.

Damn you might’ve been right on the nose. After a day without Instagram I’m sure plenty of pros have made a TikTok today to keep up that dopamine flow. Then again tik tok is still awful but 2016 Instagram of quick edit trap song montages pretty much laid the ground work for tik tok.

It’s a terrible trend and I hope it stops but it probably has a bit more upswing before it’s over.
following up on my own post to review: i think the pirate bandana over the hair kinda came and went without doing too much damage, thank goodness. here's hoping 2022 will see it fade into obscurity once again, where it belongs
