Title: Soles peeling on Vans skate line
Post by: Sila on December 23, 2022, 12:09:45 AM
Someone gave me a pair of AA Highs in black leather. The sole is peeling similar to Last Resorts. Just trying to keep these as a clean casual shoe. Any tips on dealing with this? I might try some rubbing alcohol.

That's crazy, I had a few pairs of those and it didn't happen. I think it might have something to do with the glossy finish on the outsole foxing? Can't really help ya but best of luck. I still have one pair that I won't skate and just wear around, too.

Shoe goo but you may have to peel more clean area then glue. Contact cement could work too but has a few extra steps

I've stopped buying Vans now full stop, the last couple of pairs of Skate Old Skools I've had have fell to bits just from wearing in work (I work in an office environment in a hospital, so not somewhere you'd expect them to get destroyed). Even the last pair of Half Cabs I had earlier this year were shit quality.

Soles peeling away from the foxing and the canvas on the insides of my old skools ripping away from the foxing have been my main issues.

I had 2 pair of Crockett Hi and a pair of Half Cabs separate at the white foxing tape and orange-ish sole. Both Crockett high would also wear through where the foxing meets the sole near the flick zone and the sole would separate.

Wouldn't skate em if they were free. Crazy people can skate them and chuck Taylor's.  Shits like wearing cardboard

Some of you guys must have just had bad pairs? The vans skate authentic last me at least a month or so at a time, even through hard skating (4-5 times a week during summer months).

It's one of the thinner models and holds up just fine for me. I've also never had the peeling like I think op is describing, which is almost like the foxing tape shedding flakes of clear rubber "skin," pretty common with LRAB's.

for soles, find a shoe repair shop. they're usually cheap and will do a way better job than you can. i had some fancy cons and one sole de-lamed, it was $5 and came out perfect.

Some shops will even stitch the outsole back onto the upper in addition to gluing the sole back on. Best $10 I spent to restore a pair of Busenitz.

Got them for free and they were indeed the worst shoes I've skated in a while.
One exception like the othe rposter said; the skate authentic ...

I also have a ton of Vans for daily use and even then they're only "so so". I like how they look on feet but I will never pay full price ever again unless they bring the quality up ...

Sole peeling seems pretty rare on the Skate line compared to the Pro from what I've seen, but like any vulc, it can happen.

Shoe repair shops, glue, shoe goo
