Whilst anything to do with child neglect and guns is pretty serious, isn't 5 years a bit harsh?
I bet he's racked up a few misdemeanors over the years. They usually don't spend 20 years getting away with it, just to get one gnarly one at the end. I bet he's got a handful of misdemeanors, maybe a controlled substance possession or duis. If I get some free time tomorrow, I might see if Jersey's got an easy and cheap way to get court records. I wouldn't mind getting some more details on the case. This one's on me guys.
Did you look up and find his court records/proceedings? I'm oddly interested in Wenning's situation too. njcourts.gov seems to block traffic so I can't find it myself, perhaps because I'm outside the US?
Five years and 42 months without parole is the mandatory minimum due to the Graves act. He was lucky he got the other charges dropped. Part of a plea deal perhaps?
