Had a cool conversation with Rob today and called out some reasons why SLAP deems him a kook... he had good reasons for all his previous statements, posts, except he denies wearing bootcut jeans. And he did ask what charity he wanted me to recieve the donation. So yeah, kook me if you want, but dudes cool in my book.

Aside from the the navel gazing, what bummed me out was how he used a mental health status and an autism spectrum diagnosis to shame others, excuse his outbursts, and claim expertise. That's not cool and I'll say it again, as a mental health professional who has worked with, mentored, and become friends with youth who have been diagnosed as falling somewhere on that spectrum, the dude was aching like an angry troll. Maybe that's not who he is in real life, but there is no need to go around being a jerk, using your money/fame to exert power over conversation, and claiming mental health exemption from civility if you will.

Probably gonna get kook'd for this but just wanna chime in my thoughts.
I'm not really a Brink fan. His work never really falls into my radar. So I came into the brink thread a few weeks ago definitely thinking the whole charity zoom thing was lame and on the 'brink sucks' train.
I questioned him about the charity proposition because I thought at first it seemed a bit performative and pompous, but he then explained his reasoning behind the charity part of it to me and I was like alright fair enough and stopped really caring about the thread.
But now seeing this one and looking back, kooking him seems mad unproductive. It's no secret that a lot of the industry looks at the boards in a negative light, so why kook one of the dudes atleast willing to have conversation. Not saying he'd be the advocate of Slap, but it's at least a way to have constructive dialogue and have some semblance of interaction with a "relevant" person in the industry.
This is coming from someone who thinks Olympic Skating is corny and am too young for Flip to mean anything to me, so it's not like he's even a figure in a portion of skating I care about. All I am saying is when given the opportunity to have an open discussion with someone that a lot of us have critiques on, we instead crucified them.

I quit drinking intitally because for me, it also led to doing everything else. Those uppers just ain't too fun unless you're drinking ime. Do what you gotta do man. Alcohol brings out the worst in us and while its not an excuse for being a dick, it unlocks latent thoughts and shit we generally have to work to not say. It's totally normal to have thoughts that aren't socially acceptable, that we intellectually/factually know to be untrue, what's not normal is to act on them in a way that harms others. One of thw best teachings I've learned is "I am not my thoughts"
