So, I know buying high priced bearings is fucking ridiculous, but I was finishing reading a mag(name with held for slap reasons) and shorty's has set out to make a 100 % all white ceramic bearing set called the "White Panthers" priced at $400 dollars. It'd honestly be the craziest thing to buy a pair but would it really be worth it to actually own a pair?
-
For $400 those shits better roll for 5 minutes straight, clean themselves, and sound like a Ferrari
-
Do they come with a free BJ from Rosa?

The all white bearing looks kind of cool, but I always felt like ceramic bearings would just explode and turn to dust on me when I land for some reason. Probably a completely regular fear, but it's kept me from ever buying them.

Good question. $100 dollars just for 2, isn't so bad. It would be pretty crazy to ask a shop to split a set up though, maybe go in on a set with 4 friends?

Nope...

Or...

Full ceramic bearings on eBay $13.50 a bearing. Comes out to $108 a full set.
If Shorty's does charge $400, that's one hell of a shady markup!
Of course who the fuck would buy a $400 set of bearings anyways?

^ can I get an official JBones explanation as to why ceramic bearings are better than "normal" ones?

They ain't.
I see young dudes shredding w/ cheap garbage bearings all loud and chattering and shit and they are blastin mach 10 w/ worn out 50mm wheels far above any tech old man w/ $100 bearings, $30 spacers and 75mm wheels.
The secret to getting speed is young knees and legs. Fuck everything else! That's the only thing that counts!
Learn to pump and carve and when and where to pump and carve.
Bones Reds or at the most regular Bones Swiss is as much as this crusty fuck wants.

I imagine these are marketed at long boarders, they tend to care more about functionality (and less about their parents wallets) of their skateboards than we do.
No disrespect to longboarders, just something I've noticed. Check the vids of people doing spin tests on youtube.
This dude has a really good video about the differences between skate bearings and why most ceramic/swiss high prices bearings are a bit of rip off: ABEC, Swiss, Ceramic, Skateboard & Longboard Bearings (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KRK0w8P-qy4#)

^^yeah the only reason anyone should even consider buying these is pro. down hill racing. And even then I doubt these will sell to anyone other than nyjah and lil wayne for that extra swag

I laugh more at fools buying multiple sets of arse bearings, whilst bones swiss outlast them all 10 times over and work out cheaper. Sucker.

I'll gladly pay the extra 300 monies for that Shorty's pedigree. You won't catch me in anything that ain't name brand you swap meet shopping peasant.

probably some overworked guy in his late 20's that posts on slap too much and loves wasting his money on useless board tech.
-
400 bucks is a bit much. but?.. i bought the swiss ceramics and have had them for almost 4 years now. same set all i do is clean them. so don't rule out a 400 bearing compare 400 bucks for lets say a lasting time of 4 years where i was buying bearings every 3 months at 30 bucks a set before. 400 for 4 years = 100 a year on bearings?30 bucks for 3 months = 120 a year for bearings. i back it but wish bones would have done it now shortys
-
i'd rather spend that $400 on supreme camp caps and have swag
-
didn't we stop putting clay on our trucks back in the 70's for a reason?
-
Having the Bones Swiss ceramics myself (4 years now), I agree with carter. In the long run, buying Swiss (or Swiss ceramics) saves money, it's just hard to put the money down upfront, and there's always the risk of your board being lost or stolen, that's a big loss.
Anyhow, comparing the Swiss ceramics to normal Swiss, feeling wise, the speed is the same but the ceramics were noticeably smoother. I'm extremely curious to what these Shortys full ceramics feel like. I'd imagine them to be insanely smooth, like gliding on ice, and probably very difficult to heat up (very important to downhillers). I couldn't see myself buying them but I love the concept!

Good vid, but he recommends oust moc 5 bearings. Has anyone used those bearings? I haven't even heard of them. Also, are spin tests relevant? It doesn't account for load in the real world.

Imagine how much beer you can get for $400.
-
If you're paying more than $30(even that's a lot) for bearings you need to reevaluate your priorities.
-
Regular Bone Swiss are worth the price honestly I don't think anything else is a better deal.
-
When it comes down to performance with bearings. Skating does not need much. Steel bearings are rated at very high temperatures, probably a couple hundred degrees. The idea with ceramic is that heat does not make them expand, making them more reliable in heated situations. But to be honest skating does not generate heat high enough to deem a necessity for ceramics.
400 dollars is a rip off, if you really want ceramic bearings get generic 608z bearings that is the size skateboard wheels use. Dont pay for the brand name, one sticker, in plastic packaging.
I suppose generic ceramics could be bought for about 60 bucks at an internet wholesaler. good luck!
how much coke and beer I could buy with 400 bucks? Enough to feel guilty enough to do it again!
