www.youtube.com/watch?v=oZaPWDGz0Zg
He used to play drums for Destroyer, they still occasionally do collaborations
www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ya6aFI9p4Bk
and Eno is the ambient god, obviously

I don't think we can talk about ambient without including hearts of space. Their radio program played weekly and was my favorite for years on public radio. Thankfully, you can stream their stuff online with a free account or pay to dig into their deep archives.

I'm actually totally unfamiliar with that show, sounds great though
I think my friend's parent's Pure Moods cds were my first introduction to ambient music being a thing

"Muslimgauze was the moniker of Mancunian musician and producer Bryn Jones, whose famously prolific and short-lived career produced a discography of over 2000 tracks, around 100 albums and countless 7″, 12″ and DAT-only releases...Vehemently pro-Palestinian and endlessly fascinated by the Muslim world, there has always been an air of controversy surrounding Bryn Jones’s prolific and guardedly political output. Sparked by Israel’s conflict Lebanon in 1982, his interest in the politics of the Middle East became an obsession that confounded everyone he knew, including his own family."

Gas (Wolgang Voigt) is a German ambient-electronic king:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=yyEI2mKGST0
The project was created as an expressive medium inspired by his experiences with taking LSD in the Königsforst, a German forest situated near his hometown of Cologne, for long periods in his youth. He has claimed that the intention of the project is to "bring the forest to the disco, or vice-versa"
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gas_(musician)
I saw him a couple years ago when he was touring to promote his latest album, it was an incredible show

This is a pretty good overview of most of the "big" ambient acts of the last like 15 years:

I think loscil would win for me, a lot of tough calls though
-
I think if you are putting that much effort into listening to ambient music you are doing it wrong. That shit is the antithesis of a competition
-
I think it's a cool idea. The leaderboard is left blank so it's more about picking a personal favorite.
I haven't heard of everyone on there but I know enough of them that I can tell it's a good list.
childhood, thanks for the recommendation of Loscil. I've got it playing quietly now as I work from home and it is exactly what I needed.

This would sound great in a dreamy skate edit. Question, what are some good examples of parts edited to sound-scapy ambient music?

Heath Kirchart in This is Skateboarding is the definitive one.
-
This is kinda pushing it, cause it's not ambient by the strictest definitions, but Shawn Hale skating to OPN is the closest, most recent example I can think of. Non-traditional song structure using new age-type sounds.
www.youtube.com/watch?v=YS7RwZvaKDE
And don't forget about PJ Ladd skating to John Cage-4'33 :P

I'm sure there's better examples I'm blanking on.

Labradford!
At first I really didn't get this album, then it hit me.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AhkgRw2p7bA
Another full album, their later albums got more ambient. No tracks have drums so there'll be something for OP. Some of it borders on drone, but genres can get stupid right.

Kranky is an excellent label. Lots of ambient artists on there. Surprised I didn't see Grouper in here either:

On the money as always, @childhood
Both Loscil and Stars of the Lid were on Kranky records, such a great label I recommend everyone here to check artists on there.

@ihatejulio
My friend made this not long ago and absolutely crushed it (the Eno song posted above is used in this). If you see some kind of fs noseslide, it's probably me.
