RDS Indoor in Richmond Closed on July 31st, for anyone who wanted to know. I think it's bullshit. It was the only indoor park near me, even tho it was 1000km away... FUUUCKKK

I heard the new landlord was turning it into a gym...... because there clearly isn't enough fucking gyms out there already. so lame.

Judging by the entire red dragons crew you think he'd just move the ramps to the side so they could have a red dragon gym or should that be even more gym shit in there
-
So sad RIP man.

Excellent

go wax shit, take back tha streets
-
I'm trying to decide how I feel about this. I didn't really visit much anyway and it was a tad expensive, not to mention the lame ass kids that hung out there all day, but it was nice to at least have the option of an indoor park through about six months of constant rainfall.
-
yeah..i skated the new indoor in north van....soon realized what we'd be missing...it's back to the chan centre i guess....
-
are they going to have everyone on the team tear it down with a hand axe, that would be the ender ender to their next horrible movie.
-
The landlord increased the rent $10,000 plus each month. They were forced to close.
-
so hainous
:'(

i was in richmond last year, and i skated it sooo much and had lots of fun. i also met colin mckay an mike hastie while i was there. i have a friend who met sheckler there, and another friend who saw machnau skating there one day, but didnt get to talk to him. still awesome to be in the presence of pros.
-
honestly, any cats that try to successfully finance an indoor park, let alone in van, deserve a mile high salute.
first the source in calgary
and now this
it's a god damn shame baby
-
you gotta wonder who's gonna take all those ramps....shit...they gotta have like 200 grand worth of ramps....

yea thats redicoulas
-
i also skated "shred central" in toronto, and i just cannot see it staying alive. great owners, great park, great price, but no one skates there
-
Now all the little kids and skatepark jocks will have to go out and skate real street, what a shame.
-
i honestly think the only way places can stay in business is if the city donates a building for free....then hopefully what they charge pays for some of the operating costs...skateboarding unfortunately or fortunately is just not organized enough to get that shit off the ground... maybe with all the buildings for the olympics one might free up....vancouver doesn't need much..i had just as much fun at the project and it was half the size...
-
This is what I heard, and it's heartbreaking.
The doors of the building are quite small, so there's no way to move any of the ramps. So they're all going to be torn down. Garbage. The End.
PS. I got an email from RDS on the 2nd of August saying they're closing for good on the 31st of July. Lame? There wasn't much warning for those not "in the know".
The Crackpipe was a miniramp spot in Gastown in Vancouver, it closed a couple years ago. Westbeach got rid of there shop miniramp so they could have more floorspace for girls bikinis or whatever about a year ago. And now RDS closes.
-
running a skatepark and not being in the whole is a bitch, with the cost of insurance and building cost the only way they can stay in business is charging a shitload of money for passes. But what probaly fucked them over the most is the olympics and the rise of all property in that area.
-
The movie Industry in Vancouver has also helped by taking up all open warehouse space and paying top dollar for short term leases. It's hard to find a warehouse to rent big enough for a decent skatepark that isn't 30 to 50 grand a month.
Thanks to Sluggo, Colin and Kevin for all their efforts.
-
the olmpics had nothing to do with the park closing down....it's fun to hate on them anyhow....
-
I just dont see how an indoor skatepark can last anywhere these days. Kids don't want to pay outrageous amounts of money to skate one, and they always make you wear full pads. In fact, I don't see how any park, whether it be indoor or outdoor, that makes you pay and wear pads will last. There is probably 5 or 6 parks within an hour of me, and the three that make you pay and wear pads are empty every single day, while the other ones are packed with 20 - 30 kids. The only way parks are ever going to work is if the city donates it and lets it stay padless and free.
-
Im mad because The Source Skatepark shut down now RDS >:(

Regina, Saskatchewan. Since 1997.

This just in: Kerry Getz threw a tantrum at the RDS Indoor park, causing its owner to pack up and close. Talk about shutting down a spot, this kid shut down an entire fucking PARK! Haters! Start hatin! Getz is going from town to town closing it down. And when I say he shuts a spot down, motherfuckers better recognize! He shuts a spot DOWN son.
-
It has been a bad run for canadian skateparks, with rds and source shutting down.Wasent the source like in millions in debt, either way fun park to skate.
