My favorite Vallely related endeavor was By The Sword.
Primarily because it’s life span was so short that I didn’t have to suffer it for long.
Anybody ever notice that pretty much every new company announce he has made over the years starts with “I’ve always wanted to do a company where the creative vision was my own, and blah, blah, blah, etcetera…”?
Does he really become that disenchanted with his own creative vision that fast?
What gives, Michael?
Also, I almost feel bad for those four random ocks; you think they had any idea what they were stepping to?
-
are we talking about mike vallely the skateboarder or mike vallely the frontman of black flag?
-
I have a theory that the reason Mike V starts so many companies is that you can only claim losses on 3 years for a business. So, 2-3 years, pocket the tax break, close up shop, start new company, rinse, repeat.
RIP to a real off shore account kinda dude.
-
You mean the knock off Rollins guy? Worst. Singer. Ever.
Get your own voice. Be yourself.
-
I'll give it to him his Public Domain part always got me sparked. Too bad he's a massive fucking kook now.

Idk he’s kinda ruining your guys’ stereotype of him, street plant has been around for a minute now, looks pretty stable to me. Then again, I’m their target market…

Svitak.

TV could have been huge but it didn‘t work. Two egos that were not compatible I guess.

Yeah, the Street Plant shit is huge among a certain type of 45+ skater. Mike V is totally still selling his personality and there are dudes still eating it up.
-
Didn't know accell was his.
One time a sister bought a skateboard at a garage sale for like $10 and gave it to me. It was a red Santa Cruz Ron Whaley with destroyer trucks and like 58mm Mike v accell wheels it was basically brand new but only like 7.75 so I just gave it some kid at the skatepark. Maybe dumbest thing I ever did.
Mike v might also be my favourite skater that's also my least favourite person (apart from murderers etc) all time parts https://youtu.be/m6ye3LN_gpk

All I know is that if you work at a deli and this man says no mayo, you sure as shit better not lather that hoagie up. Dude really took on 4 Ocks at once and was not phased.

Mike V's greatest hits is the correct answer. One of the all time greatest pieces of skate media. Considering who he was vs who he has become, and just the absurdity of the tape in general, it's really a fucking masterpiece. like it or not, its pretty funny that it even exists.
-
are we talking about mike vallely the skateboarder or mike vallely the frontman of black flag?
Neither, we’re talking about Cariuma Skateboard Legend Mike vallely
-
Mike V out-cringes himself with each phase of his career. I can’t wait to see what’s next

It's funny but you're laughing at it not with it. I think it says a lot that at that same time the "toughest" skater didn't take up boxing or any real type of martial art but chose to be part of some budget show wrestling

All of this is very true, and adds to the enjoyment factor. Something like this couldn't be made today. Certainly not from a big name pro anyway. Aside from the random fighting with security guard clips you see here and there, who else has done anything like this? Weck had a singular clip of him hitting some dude in that part he put out, which is like one instance from one oddball in the skate community.
The dude was on fucking powell and etnies, he was in the tony hawk games, and has a self titled vhs of him doing bonelesses and punching strangers, with commentary, and had the nerve to call it his "greatest hits".
-
Mike V's skating from back in the day is great - Public Domain, Rubbish Heap, Speed Freaks etc. Actually even quite liked his Suburban Diners part.
When I met him (1991) he was a total clown and I went straight home and took his poster off my wall (that'll show him, I said!)

Television was pretty sick.
Mike V Powell with Gershon, Jahmal Williams, and Mike Santarossa was a pretty good iteration.
The Hangover and the beat down of 4 random ocks were top notch.
Other than that, Mike V is lost on today.

-
Street Plant has been around a minute and I’m pretty sure it’s just him in his garage. He moved to Iowa. He seems pretty content if social media is to be believed. I say let the man be happy. Literally everyone in skate boarding is or has been a fucking kook at some point.
-
He’s a cool dude, met him a few random times when he played for the Thrashers. Skated my homies Streetplant really liked it.

If he has only had 6 companies of his own (two with Ed), then that is fewer than I thought.

Companies hawk (no pun intended) old riders’ boards all the time. I think it’s generally cool as long as both parties agree and the royalty checks keep coming in.
Hell, I wonder if his Powell royalties are comparable to his whole Street Plant income.
-
For a dude who crafted a persona on the basis of being rebellious and against the grain, he has really gone the opposite direction of that. Now he’s a bootlicking Chad. Plays the bro infested breweries with his safe sounding bands all throughout Iowa. Trash.
-
I wonder if he’s scrolling through this chuckling to himself from his cozy house in Iowa with his family where he doesn’t have to work a shitty day job like the rest of us. There’s probably nothing more entertaining than being content and confident in the state of your life while people worse off than you talk shit anonymously on the internet.

I have no idea who buys it, never seen any Elephant product in person, but it’s a Brad Dorfman/Select Distribution joint, same as Vision, Hosoi, Schmitt Stix, and Tracker 1980s reissues. If Sims hadn’t moved to NHS in ‘92 you’d probably be able to buy those reissues there as well. I haven’t seen anything from Mike V on why he created and then left Elephant, but I think it’s a safe assumption that Dorfman’s way of running things didn’t mesh with Mike’s vision for the company. Too bad Brad still owns the name and graphics.

why not? The story goes that lucero wanted a part out of him no? My personal theory is that he (and the video as a whole) was trying to bring some flow back into skating, as at the time it was just mainly push, handrail hammer and then roll onto the grass. I guess his injury allowed him to do that? I dunno, but it’s not like he didn’t skate hard again after he recovered, just baffles me that of all the things you could clown Mike V for, SLAP gets a collective boner over this particular part when the reasons behind it have been discussed at length…

Vallely has some made in U.S.A., biodegradable, plant-based, non-toxic, etc. boards for sale on Street Plant. I'm still mad at him for not re-issuing the Jumbo Gonz decks like he said he would.
