My board sits in my car in the hot sun all the time. The way my daily schedule works out there is no way I can put it inside every time that my car will be sitting for a while. I was wondering if anybody has tried anything to help decrease the damage done to boards by the sun. I was thinking of just buying a big ice chest to put in my trunk to keep boards in...That should insulate it from the sun, right? They are expensive but with the increased board longevity it would pay for itself in 3 or 4 boards...
Has anybody ever tried anything to tackle this issue?

i leave my board in my car all the time. i dont think it does too much damage unless your living in the desert or somewhere where its really hot.
-
i heard MJ drives around with decks in his trunk for a couple weeks before he skates them, he described it as "curing" them. maybe it kinda sucks the moisture out and you get a more stiff deck? i dont know.
-
Leaving deck in a trunk of a car for long time is usually bad idea. It depends on climate your in.
If it's hot than I would not suggest it. Inside of a car can become very very hot when on a sun and that can have strange effects on a deck, they can become warped, very dry, sometimes delamination can occur.
Great temperature oscillations can be very bad for a glue and wood.

I work/live in the Pilbara in Australia, which gets pretty warm during the summer. I'm talking over 45 degrees every day for weeks on end. I leave my board in my ute every day and haven't had a warped one yet, but they don't tend to last quite as long as my boards back in the real world.

Summer should be okay. Bearing oil stay expanded, bushings stay soft, etc. I never leave my board in the trunk during winter.
-
I've never noticed anything expect for bushings changing. If i left my board in the car in the winter I cant turn
-
Only problem I've had leaving my board in my trunk is during winter which leads to broken boards
-
summer rule: never leave your board in the car if possible (humidity)

Buy one of those windshield protectors, the kind that blocks the sun and wrap your board in it.

For the people who don't get what leaving your board in your trunk does, the heat dries out the wood, meaning your skateboards remaining water weight is dried up and your board becomes brittle and will probably stress crack/warp easily.
Wood is extremely heat temperamental. Elevation too. Boards in Colorado warp like crazy,

get a styrofoam cooler, it should fit your board nicely or at least most of it.
but whatever man, i dont even own a car so fuck it.
-
you should never leave your board in the car unattended, if you must, just crack open a window, but not too much or it will jump out
-
Damn that windshield protector seems like a much less expensive option, thanks for the tip b.v.

it was 113 degrees here today, and my board was in the trunk all day.
the only thing I can think of is being strict about not leaving it in.
I've tried covering it in blankets and other shit but it's just not having it.
it's not all that bad having your board around, I brought it in to work today and got some weird looks but i'm a fucking skateboarder and they can eat a dick.
-
Is this for real? like it's really gonna make a difference?
I leave my board in my trunk all year round and never had any problems. during the summer it gets around 95 degrees and during the winter it gets as low as 30 degrees. never noticed any warping or anything.

thats just because you haven't noticed. decks shape changes overtime from skating, heat will only serve to warp the board earlier.

I keep my boards in my trunk all year long - 100 degree+ summers, didn't ever notice a board warping until I got one of those low pro decks, I don't know if it was the rocker or what, put it was like someone twisted it up like a rope
-
None of you 100+ degree posters mentioned your grip sweating through?? Sun spots on your grip after leaving it in the car is like board cancer, you can't see what it's doing to it exactly but you know your board is fucked.

should have said "this is who i am. dont fuck with me"
