Customizing and sanding trucks kingpins
« on: June 07, 2019, 08:02:55 AM »
I have been using a dremel tool to shave down kingpins and also sanding old trucks to give a newish sheen. Also using hydro dip to give a custom colorway and doing different colored hangers. What is your opinion on colorways vs. standard polished aluminum?

Polished or Raw

Colored trucks and wheels make it seem cheap, toyish. Couldn't take myself serious if I was either.

I like colorways. I had the krux yes comply and loved em. Now I'm on black thunders with black engraving design. I wouldn't pay extra for a colorway truck but if it's the same price I'm down.

Wheels are a different story. White only, not even black.

I hear ya does look tacky, the reason I do this is for seeing the results if it looks like shit I give them away or trade them at the park to some hype beast dork.

Polished or raw. I can go either way with baseplates.

I do think I’m gonna follow suit and try shaving down a king pin though. Get a little clearance.

When I had Thunder 147s I always just staged smith grinds on rough ledges to work the kingpin down and smoothed it out with a file if necessary, works like a charm. On the subject of kingpin clearance, I think it's overrated. Now that I'm on 148s I'm having to relearn my smiths because I don't have that nicely worked in kingpin nut to rest them on.

furthest I've ever gotten away from the standard was "clear matte" and "pewter"

I don't think I'd ever skate a colored hanger. baseplates? maybe, but the standard polished is preferred.

ummm filing down the nut seems counter productive just my opinion though. I have a pipe cutter and rethreader I like to do some dumb shit when getting that just right feeling. that's just me though.

I like the black matte as it gives it a sleek look anything outside of raw, black, and chrome is kinda whack.

On my old thunder teams from like 01
I put the nut on upside down and the shop owner used a grinder to remove the edge of the upside down nut.

Took like 2 seconds.
