I rode Rock'nRon's before my current Reds. The Ron's are way faster (in fact, the fastest bearings I've ridden) but they freeze up just like any other bearing. Thus, the benefit of a faster bearing does not justify the higher price.

Unless you have the time and patience to fully service your bearings after every few sessions, it's not worth the money.

I think it's great how companies care more about the casing the bearings come in then the quality of the bearings.  But I guess if a kid comes into a skateshop they would rather buy bearings that come in a grenade or a chinese throwing star then just a cradboard box.

Personally I just buy reds cause for the price they are the closest you will get to swiss.
Don't call it a comeback.

I would definately go for bone swiss bearings.  By far they are the best bearings I've ever rode.  Once I got a set I could never go back to any other bearings.

swiss might not be the fastest, but they last for a fucking long time and don t ever change. and even after you got new ones, you can still use the good ones out of the old set once your new ones are getting worse.

and don t ever try ceramics!

Is a drop of oil once every two weeks really THAT much of a hassle.......?

I prefer the metal shields, by the way. They're faster. Assuming you don't he-man the damn things into some dented hell. Then, they just suck.

If you have the dough, Swiss is where its at. I have a 5 year old set that is super fast still. Plus I have a new(ish) set of them too. You can take care of them and they last forever. I would never go back to another bearing.

ive had really great packs of reds and really bad packs, but mostly good and for 16-20 bucks, the reds are hard to beat.

To fully service bearings, you need to take them completely apart and strip the existing lubricant. After they are fully clean, then relube them. It's more work than just dropping in lube without taking the wheels off.

The Ron's lasted me one set of wheels (typical for any average bearing) with intermittant re-lubing. I mostly street skate, and most of the spots are dirty, so I tend to get more dirt in my bearings than normal. Once you get particles inside the bearing, it will generate more friction and eventually score the insides to the point that they are ruined. It only takes one session to damage them that badly. Lubrication won't remove dirt from the inside.

Thus, I buy the cheaper bearings and just push more to get there.

i have six balls. they are real fast but i dont see much difference between regular swiss, although ive only had them for around 4 or 5 months so i guess ill wait to see how they compare in the long run.

anyone have any more tips on cleaning swiss'?  i've never really cared about keeping my bearings clean; i usually just ride em till they explode.  I think i might want to take the time to clean them, just to see what a difference it would make.

I think I do the same thing, except I don't know what "meths" is. I put the shit in turpentine. Shields are a con.
