Here is a new (I think) Dickies commercial for people to hate on.

I believe that Dickies has a BMX team, and I've often wondered why they haven't tried to branch out with a skateboarding team, given their popularity amongst skateboarders.  Every pair that I've had have been super durable and comfortable, not to mention relatively cheap. I'm even wearing a pair right now.

I skate in the same pair of dickies for the last 5 months or so and not a sign of wear and tear. Especially with all the Satan slides I do.

I Love their pants. I own two pairs and they are my favorite pants to skate in. As a matter of fact I was just going to buy a pair of the slim fit ones in brown from their website cause they had them on sale for only 10 dollars, but some bastard bought the last pair in my size.

I have a black pair and a khaki pair. The khaki's are still going strong, the black pair has a hole on my right side pocket from falling on my keys and cell phone so much; I sewed it back up just the other day though. I'd say they're pretty durable overall. The thing I've noticed about dickies though is that some can pull off the look and others can't. They fit really good on some people and on others they look super baggy and it looks like they're wearing clown pants. It all depends I guess.

They are not tight, just slimmer like maybe Dockers or something, if Corey Duffel wore then they would look baggy. Hope this helps :)

Hah, first come first serve I guess. Glad to see you guys took advantage of the offer. Dickies for 10 dollars a pair is too good of an offer to pass up. I would've gotten a pair too, but they were all out of the slim fit ones in 32, 30. They only have the relaxed fit ones left in 32, 30, but I'll pass on those.

Dickies hands down are my favorite pants to skate in, I skate the slim straight ones which arent tight by any means, just right.

But to anyone who says they are durable, the new ones ass blows out pretty quick. My black pair which is all I skate in have 2 wholes right through to my underwear and the first time I fell on my knee on a sidewalk it put a whole in them. About to order some more black and khaki pair though. Well worth the 20.99 or whatever they are on clearance on dickies.com

Pretty much the only pants to skate in for me. Them or Rustler regular fit straight leg jeans.

Last summer I was at some free outdoor show and they were giving away Dickies. Only had the slim fits so I took a pair but didn't like them. Fits okay in the legs but the crotch is too high. Can't get with that low rise shit.

i got a jacket from them because it felt super durable and strong but it totally sucks fit-wise.
i got a medium at first but it was frickin HUGE.  the waist, sleeves and wrists were all ridiculously big.
so i opted to get a small but it ended up being super tight around the waist(i'm not fat in the slightest) and the sleeves and wrists are the same as the medium.  i can't even wear it, what a waste of money.
dickies = not for me

I don't really wear Dickies that much but if you have access to an ironing board, iron out the crease and then wash them and put about 3 sheets of fabric softener in the dryer. They will still keep thier durability but won't feel so "tough". They feel like a regular pair of pants after that so you don't need to break them in. It works great.

the brand-new phase is by far my favorite! i resist washing them for as long as possible. i like when they are super straight and haven't started slumping yet. found a work wear store near me that has ever color and size of every product they make, and i discovered i'd been getting the wrong size combo for years- used to do 32-30 and they always seemed a little too short and baggy, but i found that 31 32 fits just right. haven't tried the slim ones, though.  wearing green ones today!

How do the 874s fit??

i just copped a pair of black ones last week for work over at modells for $25.  they come up a little high on me but its because i had no choice but to buy a bigger size than i normally wear(i lost 15 lbs in the last 2 months without realizing it).
i haven't skated in them yet other than just pushing from the train to work but the material is far from comfy, they're pretty stiff.  unless they soften up after washing, i can't see me skating in these, they feel like burlap(the woven bags they use to haul potatoes).

^yes! they have that good crisp shape and edge. by the time they have been washed like three times they turn into regular pants, but in the brand new phase, there is nothing else like them. once i was shooting photos of jason jessee- he said, "hey, wait just like five minutes," walked off, got into his car and drove away. i had no idea what he was doing. sure enough, five minutes later he came back with a brand new pair of dickies and changed into them for the photo. "they just didn't look right," was all he said. awesome.

I just bought two new pairs of black dickies 874's from Walmart a week ago and one pair fits like how they normally do but the other pair is noticeably baggier. I was wearing the baggier pair to skate the other day and i fell on a trick not even that hard and it made a hole on my knee super easily. I've never had a pair of dickies that have torn this easily, usually they can take a beating before they start to wear out. I'm guessing some badly made pairs some how got past inspection and made it to stores.

i can't say that, i went from wearing nothing but dickies for like a good 2 years, and then all of a sudden finally found the pair of jeans that fits me the best (levis 514) and now i wear a mix of both.
I tried on a pair of the 514 and they fit weird. The thigh area is tight but down from the knees to the ankles is baggy. I like the 511's, but all the washes come in different sizes. My black one's fit perfect but the wax blue ones are too tight.

I finally bought my first pair of the slim straight Dickies. My only complained is the leg opening is too big, but overall good pants. I'll probably go back and buy some blue and black ones.

a staple 874 and 873s (slim) both good shits. cheap, last forever. depending on your stature may give you dumpy butt, but I find them to be awesome.

so, try'em on before you buy and see whats good. surplus stores are chock full of colors/sizings as are your local marts. not for everyone obviously, but you can get the most bang for your buck taking the time to give them a chance. plus they always make good shorts if you don't like the pants style, cut them shits.

Goddamnit I hope they didn't lower their quality. This always seems to happen when a brand gets popular. When Levi's got cool they lowered the quality on most of their jeans (the Rigid 501's seem to be the same though) and brought out tons of stupid washes. Vans has been going downhill as well in terms of quality.

no, the slim dickies have a low rise that is basically like the rise of girls pants, and the leg isnt even very slim.

Yea I hate them. stupid low rise so everyone can see ur boners and they fall down.

and they're only slightly slimmer than the 874's. you could try getting the 874's and re-sewing them, or get different pants.

All are 34
Cuffed once on the dickies and the 501s
K-slims have shrunken a bit (notice the top button), but have always been a lot slimmer and I never wore them much anyway.

I'm pretty built/muscular in the lower body if it helps anyone in their comparison.

I've been conducting a good amount of research lately, jus peeping skater's in their natural habitats, and I've found that one can tell a lot about the skateboarder based on what color dickies they prefer. I will share my findings in hope that we can all understand ourselves and others a little better.

Black: This is the choice color of the modest skater, who none-the-less desires to be somewhat fashionable, but not dylan fashionable, more like heath kirchart fashionable. You can find them in a variety of settings, they tend to lurk a little harder than others, and their cool outer persona masks a deep and emotional inner world. They often prefer the slim ones too.

Blue: The blue dickies are like the most common it seems, they could be the "gateway dickies" that former a jeans wearer chooses. They are also synonymous with the blue collar life style, so skaters who prefer them are also likely to enjoy tranny, cheep beer, working in mail rooms, and squalid living conditions. There are less obvious ties with punk music and Jason Dill.

Brown: Those who choose to rep browns are signifying ties to a prominent gang of skaters/artists. They are like the Crips of cellar doors. Key members are Kevin Coakley, Anthony Poppalardo, and Bobby Puleo. However, I should note that apparently Julien Stranger owns more than 50% of the stock in brown dickies (NASDAQ DBD).

Khaki: The preferred color of Dirts. If a skater owns even one pair, you can assume they have connections, however remote, to Florida.

Green: The least common color, green dickies are sort of ambiguous. Basically they are most similar to brown in what they symbolize, but since they harken to the days of army surplus pants and cargo pants, wearers signal an underlying alliance with '90s skate values.

Gray: Gray is a shade not a color, it is the midway between white and black, it represents harmony. In skateboarding it also represents the unity between scumbag hill bomber hesh-dog and '90s hip-hop ledge/manual technician. Think Rob Welsh.

That weird torquoise/green/blue-gray garbage man color: I haven't seen many skateboarders wear that color, it is like that weird color that crust punks and homeless joes wear. They are the most common color in Salvation Army. If you see a skater wearing those ones it is recommended that you act with caution, as they may turn out to be Duane Peters.

This concludes my research and I hope you come away with at least one bit of knowledge that you can apply to your local homoscape. And if you see someone with a skateboard who is just lurking there, not skating but watching other men while he sits alone like a faggot, dont worry. It's just me and my black dickies.

Fucking awesome Pizza! Spot on about that "other" color... I have some like that and sometimes used to wonder if I was colorblind. They also look like the green ones indoors, then *poof* they become whatevercolor once you go out.

I've only seen one pair in my life and they were in a store, as opposed to being worn, so you have a very fortunate opportunity to define an entire spectrum. For now it should be noted as a "pioneer color".

Ive noticed that certain pairs of new Dickies fit a bit different now. If you buy a pair of the 874's and there is a black tag on the inside waist that says "Dickies work" on it, it tends to fit baggier and has a wider leg opening than usual. The pairs that don't have the black tag on the inside usually fit a bit slimmer and look better in my opinion. So next time you are going to buy a pair of the 874s, look for a pair without the black tag.

My only beef with Dickies is that their normal cut is really baggy, like some clown pants shit. Their slim is better, but it's tight in weird places and has no give so it kinda makes me paranoid that I'm going to rip my pants.

J.Crew Bedford Chinos, you can find them at your closest outlet mall (if they have a J.Crew store). Haven't touched my Dickies in months. But that's if you're looking for a quality slim straight chino.

bingo. dickies are for people who have yet to discover what a chino pant is. they're like the beginners choice for a skater deciding to venture out of jean wearing.

I always wore the black dickies the most.  Brown ones were always a rare find, but I remember always looking for them.  If you came across a store that carried brown dickies you had to tell your buddies like it was something important.

Yeah prob won't be finding them in a Kmart. Although I haven't been in a Kmart in a while. The army navy surplus place had pretty much all the colors. One of my friends did some mail order shit in the 90s and had all kinds of Dickies, I remember he had some forest green corduroys.

I went to the J.Crew store in downtown SF and did not find any bedford style pants. There was broken-in, but they seemed just a bit too baggy. Would you know if the Essential style is similar to bedford? I'm perusing the online store and those look the best. I want some new fuckin pants.
