Love Ray Winstone but would not want to be trapped in a Borstal with him.

No, but it's going on the list.

Tried to watch Top Boy with the missus but when they cut the dudes finger off with a garden sheers she cried uncle.

Have to see The Long Good Friday thou. Can't believe I haven't yet.

Oh, you know what one is good: Legend

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt3569230/

Tom Hardy is the shit. Love me some The Drop also, but we on the other side of the pond right now...

I really liked The drop, it was under the radar for sure. Gandolfini’s last film i think...

In the realm of London gangsters, Gangster Number One is a hidden gem..

been trying to track down an earlier take on this by director Philip Ridley, so far no luck. I'll give legend a go though.

Yes! So glad to see Kelly Reichardt's work getting mentioned around these parts. She's one of my absolute favorite filmmakers currently out there and each of her films are minimalist, stoic, unfettering treasures. Her sparse environments, slow edits, lonesome characters, and static camera shots captures something so resonating and familiar about American culture. I understand if some would call her films too slow-paced for their tastes though. Also she nearly always leaves the viewer without a proper Hollywood ending which is honestly pretty funny and I love her for it. If you are in the mood for something slow-paced and serenely dreary, watch her stuff.

Although I wouldn't recommend this as ones first venture into Reichardt, here is one of her films Meeks Cutoff (2010) in its entirety about a wagon train facing difficulty on the Oregon Trail:

But as for a starting point, I would recommend Wendy and Lucy (2008) or her most recent film First Cow (2019) which was distributed by A24.

Thanks for sharing those other titles! I'm totally going to watch the rest of her films.

How brutal is Gosling's mom in this?  I've never wished more harm on a woman character before.

Mean Streets was great. I had an aversion to Scorcese growing up because it seemed like the bro-y thing to like but his acclaim is well earned.
I thought it wasnt just him solo, shouldve stuck with my og thought.

I ve been watching a lot of Kiyoshi Kurosawa's films, he slowly became one of my favorite directors.

Also rewatch Gummo, it was fun to see Gonz in it. The first time I watched it, 7 years ago, I was not skating yet so he was just a drunk fighting a chair to me.

Les Amants du Pont neuf by Leos Carax, trully an amazing film by one of the best french directors ever (if anyone wants a link with english subs dm me)

It's actually my favorite of him. I loved Kairo (ghost one) and Jellyfish (esoteric, mellow one). Also Creppy was pretty intense too. I have only watched 6 or 7 of his films, so I still have to discover him really. I am super excited about it.
