Sure their opinion might not hold the same weight, but I sometimes find it interesting to hear how people outside of skateboarding view certain things within skateboarding.

At the very least it can be pretty funny to hear those takes.

CKY2K was a big hit.
I’m not letting my YouTube algorithm anywhere near that video.

He left a comment on a Tom K post that had me chuckling, if only because my brain is broken and the group chat I was in overly used it as a joke over the last 9 or so years:

I disagree, I'd say swiss = Toyota/Lexus

More expensive, but basically the best in the biz in terms of quality/reliability.

Reds = Subaru

Great quality for the price point and will last if maintained properly.

More like Fiat or Alfa Romeo since they're made in Italy. Maybe even Ferrari if they're super fast, but without the luxury price tag. I have a set that I'm excited to try this spring.

Pros in their mid to late 40s should retire and let up and coming kids in their 20s take some of their money. It’s harder than ever to make money in skateboarding and although it’s cool to see our favorite skaters from the early 2000s still out there going for it, it’s not letting the new generation live even a fraction of what those skaters were able to live in the heyday. I think we’re going to start seeing some skaters not hit their full potential simply because they can longer afford to be a skater anymore.

Think we def saw that with cole wilson. Austin kanfoush too to some extent, though he still skates a good bit and has his board on anti hero most of his time seems to be going into his concrete biz. I can only assume that's because of $$$

How many pros are in their mid to late 40’s with a board out rn? And how many people under 30YO are buying them? If Eric Dressen or Guy Mariano are selling enough boards to stifle some up and comers dreams of being the next hotshot then maybe it wasn’t in the stars for that person. Old pros who still shred and put in work if nothing else give younger guys a template for longevity and shouldn’t be asked to step aside just because of their age.

There is no number of old pros who could retire which will change the underlying economics of being a professional skateboarder in 2024. This isn't 2001; no one except maybe Andy Anderson is pulling down six figures from deck sales. Further, pro skating isn't a team sport where there are a fixed number of spots on a roster; Andrew Reynolds is not keeping a young skater from getting on New Balance (probably the exact opposite).

Pro skating is now is several hundred independent contractors of more or less equal talent competing to get their name on a shoe.
This is not my SOTY. I'm telling my kids there was no SOTY for 2021
