Title: Slap's Board Buyer Club: VOTE OR DON'T
Post by: waltercronkite on January 04, 2014, 07:40:32 PM
Scumco won! Yay! Cool so you guys know what to do from here, buy one of those sexy beasts and post it in here. Try and persuade your friends to buy one and post theirs in here too fill this thread with pictures of your beautiful new setups. I already have my eye on that Kevin Taylor board with the deep dish concave and I'm pretty excited about it.

If your shop doesnt have them in stock, this site http://www.thepalomino.com/products-page/scumco-sons-boards/ (http://www.thepalomino.com/products-page/scumco-sons-boards/) gives you good information about the concave and wood used in each specific board.

All set and ready to roll as soon as it dries up outside. Gonna go with the Kevin Taylor as I am yet to skate the deep dish concave.

Just out of interest I compared the prices of US and UK boards. Fuck, I gotta pay the equivalent of 80 dollars for a Scumco deck in the UK. This saddens me.   :'(

Is the kiddie pool concave actually  flat? The only Scumco I've ridden was pretty steep.

You can choose your size on all of the decks.

If the shipping to Norway wasn't so damn expensive, I'd be all over this!

Kiddie pool is pretty mellow. Not super flat. If you check that Palomino link they usually have good detail photos of the concave.

8.25
kiddie pool concave (comparable to a girl/choco concave)

shredded indoors yesterday and loved the shape/feel.  it'll take 3x as long skating indoors to break it down to where I can really comment on how awesome, or not, it is...but felt good throughout 2.5 hours of skating minis and bowls.

If this is true, then sign me up for Scumco. I've always wanted to buy boards from smaller companies, but I can't seem to skate anything that isn't crailtap concave.

The "kiddie pool" mellow concave is the same we use from Pennswood.

And like art hellman said, it's pretty comparable to crailtap concave.

Scumco is sick. Huge inspiration there.

two boards ago i had an 8.125, the deck im currently skating is a 8.25 (not scumco) the size up wasnt harsh at all and ill stay with 8.25 for the time being cause i really like it. i might even go bigger eventually.

Looks good, but I can't seem to find their lengths and wheelbases. Anybody have info on that, 32' and up is too long for short legs.

that does make it sound terrible, however they're ?57.50 inc shipping from Palimino, which isn't much over what you would pay for non sale US deck.  Think of it as tax for supporting the coolness of Scumco.

Alternatively, drop Nick an email and get it sent direct from the US.  I've had him send me a couple of boards direct and he's been a stand up guy.  Doesn't work out any cheaper, but i got a wedge of stickers thrown in  ;).

Art - As always, outstanding review! Thanks for posting the pics brother. I am curious what the nose and tail length are on that bad boy.

I just set something new up last week myself, but I might jump on one of these in the not too distant future.

Man. These guys are really doing it right.

To be honest, I guess i just sort of assumed they were any other smallish board company (ain't no shame in that game FWIW), but there is real craft, attention to detail, and smart design at work here.  That veneer shopping video made my day.  I'm involved in architectural woodworking, and fabrication, so it's nice to watch people in skateboarding geek out on those type of particulars.  Thanks for sharing that, Hate.

I'm terrible at getting accurate measurements, so these may be off a little

nose = 7
tail = just under 7
wheelbase = 14
length = 31.8 (prob would be listed as 32)

whatever the measurements, the deck feels solid under my feet.  Dont think I've ever skated Pennswood before ... I'm impressed.  Expect it to carry me through the winter.

What would an 8 be, if Heavy uses the kiddie pool concave I might as well buy both Scumco and Heavy.

ABP, but appropriate for this thread and anyone wanting to learn about Scumco.

Thanks for those. All the more stoked.

This is problably one of my all time favorite deck designs, I really wish it was still in stock somewhere:

Anyways, I'll snap a pic of my Scumco setup sooner or later. I set it up in late december. It doesn't count, but I'm still excited about these threads. Even if it's not like everyone's down to run out and buy a board every month according to the hivemind, it's still cool for everyone to share how stoked they are on a certain small brand and share specific details like how this month's thread is shaping up.

Good lord that thing is sick. What width is that one? The 8 7/8? If so, any idea on the approximate length? I was gonna replace my Welcome cruiser with another Welcome, but that Scumco shape is too hilarious to pass up if the deck is big enough.

the Slap BBC

Yeah, fully digging that ride HATE. Looking forward to hearing some feedback! To Art's post earlier on Pennswood, everything I've ever had out of their shop has been killer. I'm still holding out some hope that Olson decides to use Pennswood for his board co.

And I did see the Scumco post on IG regarding the BBC. That's great work and really nice of Scumco to recognize the people representing. That goes a long way, IMO, and I wish more companies took the time.

EDIT: On an unrelated note, I wish more companies would go back to stained bottom plys instead of plain. I know it's just vanity, but it's nice seeing the colored ply showing through after a good ledge session.

same for me but im in michigan. i set up a chocolate last fall and it will probably last me until spring, and i have a new antihero on deck. plus i have a basically brand new welcome complete i got last month that i try to ride equally as much as my other set up. so buying another board right now when i can only skate indoor parks once, maybe twice a week isnt really in my budget. i really want to try a pennswood board in the future though.

Thanks I will have to figure out how to make paypal work. Scumco has free shipping which saves me a bunch. I want the deck for my wall since those graphics are what I do at work all day.

rad.  similar reason for picking that graphic as well.

I've always found the idea of land surveying pretty fascinating. Not sure why exactly.  That's a sick deck though. I promised myself a snack next, and like several others I've got a fresh complete that'll last me through the shitty winter easy, plus a new cruiser. Trying not to give into temptation...

Not a recent purchase but my first scumco boards. Got these last year. One for the wall and the other will be a cruiser, haven't set it up yet though. Amazing graphic and shape, I had the original Corey o brien as a kid.

Just grabbed this from Labor the other day. I won't be able to set it up this month because i recently set up another deck that is going to last me awhile but I've been meaning to grab a Scumco deck so I figured I might as well buy it now.

Ended up springing for the 8.88 Cap'n Cruiser to upgrade my cruiser setup. The other deck I bought for my regular setup in December.

Got them both from Energy Skateshop (https://www.facebook.com/pages/Energy-Skateboard-Shop-Daytona-Beach/149481968437008) in Daytona Beach, FL. Sick shop, seems to be SLAP's choice in terms of brands he carries too (Scumco, Palace, Magenta, Hopps, Polar, Lots of DVD's from Theories, etc etc).

great looking setups. that cap'n crusier looks awesome with the green wood.

its getting toward the end of the month. when do we start voting for february? i know winter probably screwed a lot of people out of getting a scumco this month. id be down to extend scumco for another month if enough people still want to grab a deck in the near future. just a thought though. there are plenty of good companies id be willing to support when i can actually get outside and skate more. right now i skate indoor parks or my secret TF (its like a giant garage with some pallets and ply wood) once, maybe twice a week and both my setups have pretty new decks, so i couldnt really bring myself to buy a new one this month when i know im not going to be skating as much as i want to.

I have neither the money nor the need for another deck in the next 30 days, and most people that are down with this idea probably don't either if they just bought one. Especially with winter dicking everyone right now... I'd say just keep the Scumco discourse going til the middle/end of February and have a solid round on the next one as opposed to a guaranteed flop.

Scumco is one of the coolest things happening in skating.  Can't get into the boards because of the lengths but I'll buy a shirt or something every now and again to support.

When does voting start for the next brand?  I know it would be right up the same alley and people might want to branch out to something Euro or whatever but I would like to nominate Politic.  Simply because they are the only rad small brand I know of that makes boards in the length that I like (32.5) and I want to get in on this.

In the next one i was going to nominate a bunch of east coast brands and then whatever everyone else nominates too so politic ;). i think traffic would be a great idea. As for when this one will end and the next will start its kind of open ended seeing as how most of us are dealing with snow and cant even enjoy our new boards.

I'm a little late to the party, but here she is.  My buddy at the shop worked with Nick at scumco to get custom 8.5s with a longer wheelbase.  This deep dish "5L" shape has a 14.5" wheelbase.  I'm really psyched to try it out; I've always wanted to skate pennswood in the past but their standard 8.5 shape is too short and stubby for my gangly legs.  Well anyways, here she is:

Traffic is so meh right now. I've bought like 4-5 traffic decks in the past but their latest graphics are just logos. I haven't seen any video or photo coverage from Traffic in almost a year and a half either.

There are so many other companies that are really doing things that I'd rather support at the moment.

Snack and The Northern Co. both got fresh drops that are worth supporting.  Can't say I'm feeling the "new" Traffic in the least out the gate, but maybe they will hit their stride a few seasons in.  I also wanna give Sleep some money soon.  Love their minimal spacey graphics....

Snack is pretty sick and I've got a local shop close by that sells their boards. I'd be down for them. Heavy would be a good one once their next graphics drop. I heard hopps is coming out with a bunch of new stuff soon too. Other than those three, here are some more off the top if my head that I'd like to try out:

Lurkville
Heroin
Hook ups

HOOK-UPS
[close]

That would be really, really sick actually.

Horribly inconsistent of me to say that after saying I wasn't backing traffic cause of their inactivity, but whatever. Hook-ups is pretty timeless, and doesn't really get much exposure or hype anywhere. I'd be down.
[close]

Shit how can you have any form of exposure when you don't have a team ?

I dunno, I kinda just meant hype. I really meant that the brand isn't really out there like Scumco or some of these other internet-cult-classic type brands.

EDIT:

A few notes on the first round

There were 9 people who posted new Scumco decks they purchased Since January 4th:
Me
Art Hellman
HATE
SkateViolence
The Real Deal
YeahISaidit
Fullfill the Dream
Chumlee
BoyRobertOcean

And 2 others who posted their previous Scumco purchases: m477 and Soda Jerk.

Honestly, between that many people stoked enough to drop a half hundy on a deck, and all the info and discussion and hype in these four pages, I think this has been a real good idea. Not really a barnstormer in terms of purchases I guess, but it's kind of like a more focused version of that "Post your setup" thread but where we talked about the woodshop, how we got the decks, why we like the art, etc. I'm pretty happy with the first round; I think we should keep doing it.

yeah, and to those listed above, don't forget to come back after skating the deck for a bit (once the snow melts) and discuss how it did and other thoughts

would not be psyched on Hook Ups at all.

would rather see Snack, Heavy, Northern Co., Politic, Lurkville EDIT: Hopps, Western Edition,  as contenders for next round ... but to be honest, I'll probably be skating this Scum Co. until at least May

So how does voting for the week from Feb 21st-Feb28th sound? Then we could call the vote on the night of the 28th and make the board club start March 1st and go for at least a month.

A current list of nominations:
Snack
Heavy
The Northern Co.
Politic
Lurkville
Hopps
Western Edition
Palace
Isle
Traffic
Heroin
Hook-ups
Roger

I actually bought another one but haven't had reason to set it up yet.

I'd like Hopps for the next round because I've never skated one and they look tight.

You should post a top picture(griptape) of this board. Also can you give some feed back on it? I've been thinking about getting one for regular skating, not a cruiser.

Hey so I am glad everyones looking forward to the next round and im happy with where we are at with scumco because we started during the winter and for a lot of us that means snow. The northeast (at least massachusetts) has been dealing with a snow storm almost once a week since december so i havent really been able to do any real skating as i am sure a lot of people havent. I figured it would fare well with a lot of us to wait a little longer to start the next poll so we could let people get some real skating in and some real feedback on their scumcos but if i am being selfish and everyone else is ready to move on from scumco then i am down to start another poll consisting of all of the board brands people have posted thus far and maybe even a few of my own. Let me know what you all think and we can move forward with a better plan. Basically who here is still buried under snow?

so is this a quarterly thing now? monthly during the spring and summer?

i broke my scumco last week, and have moved on to northern co (which so far, i hate). the scumco board was about as good as it gets, except for the graphic if that matters. but it felt great, never felt dead, and lasted a while. i'm down for any company that uses pennswood.

and i'm with art, i wouldn't be too cool with hookups, or organika.

Ya i think its just a good idea to push back deadlines a bit until it gets warmer out and then we can make it a bi monthly or monthly thing.

I like jeremy klein but im not into hookups either. I wouldnt be against organika especially if josh matthews has a board out by the time the next round starts but i think i would be most psyched if fancy lad or hopps wins.

The thing about Fancy Lad is where can you get them? Trying a small company, yea I get it, but more importantly you should support your local shop. I'd guess nearly all of the Scumco boards were purchased online right? I can walk in to my shop and pick up an Organika and sometimes a hook-ups.  I don't even know what the Northern Co is.

buy direct from the company (I bought direct from Scum...also, dont have a local shop within an hour's drive)... or better yet (for you and the brands chosen) ask your local to order from the company, almost every shop will do direct orders for customers

or just dont participate on months when its a company you cant get at your local, or a company you dont want to support.

I won't buy off the internet, even straight from a company. I know shops will direct order sometimes, but I'm not going to ask to order me some shit I can't stand on.  Tangar and I had to go to San Francisco to get his Scumco, which isn't that bad.  He stoodd on the different shapes and concaves to pick.  That's how I pick a board, figured most did too.
I was under the assumption that the purpose was to try brands and possibly dispell or reinforce some stereotypes certain companies may carry, but it seems nobody is willing to do that.  Would you ride a Deathwish board? It seems this is just going to turn in to a "Slap fanboy buyers club," and if that's the case why even have the thread, since people on here jock these companies anyway?

Edit! Damn Art, why'd you kook me, delete your post and dip? I was out searching the net for a snarky meme to reply with.

I never bought boards before without stepping on them in person too.

For these smaller brands, it could do a lot of good for them to just ask your shop to carry them. Most of the orders I get from shops come from someone coming in and asking about Heavy. So not only would the Club do a lot of good with getting orders from here, but getting shop orders would help them a ton too.

Interim Update

Been skating my Land Surveyor deck for over a month now...albeit only once a week and at an indoor park mainly skating mini ramps and wallrides...but it still feels brand new.   In fact, one of the best shapes I've skated in recent memory.  I would not be sad not to participate in the next round of the SBBC if it means this deck is still shreddable.

What would you guys think if in the future we did two board brands instead of one. A big name board brand and a small name company and then we compared the two like for example we did a baker and Western edition round then the people who wanted to buy one could come on here and talk about what they thought and compare it too the people who bought the other?

I was just thinking that a lot of my friends are afraid to buy anything other than dlx because they think anything else is inferior so i thought it would be beneficial to smaller brands to show that there are smaller board companies putting out just as good boards if not better ones than the bigger name companies. If you guys want to stick with the way things are that is more than fine with me, i was just daydreaming about it while i was having a couple beers last night and thought i would present it to the thread.

Well the point of the thread is for everyone to buy a board from a small company for a month or so, showcase it, talk about it etc. To get some shine on the little guy. DLX and other big name shit has plenty of shine. Let this be about the little guy.

Well the point of the thread is for everyone to buy a board from a small company for a month or so, showcase it, talk about it etc. To get some shine on the little guy. DLX and other big name shit has plenty of shine. Let this be about the little guy.
Nobody wants those bicycle boards dude.

i know the point of the thread i started it lol and this is still going along with that by showing the little guy can compete with the big guy quality wise. but like i said it was just an idea i was toying around with so if people aren't down for it im completely fine with it but it would be cool after a couple of rounds if we all got together and picked our favorite board we did so far and tested it against a big name brand.

what do you think would be better for a board company: a board company that some people think is pretty great or a board company that people think is better than Real.

Something that could be good with doing two brands is we could cover a wider area, enabling more people to participate. for instance, a North American brand and a European one. Anyone can buy either, but if you feel like supporting something more local or just not paying a bunch for shipping you have an option. Just a thought.

Not making a whole lot of sense when there are really only approx 10 wood shops. And really only about 5 " big " woodshops. ( outside of China) And most of the smaller companies use the same OEM woodshops anyway, the mold might vary but they are going to be about the same. Not pissing on the idea b/ c it's a great idea to support smaller companies but there is only so much comparing. A Real is a Magenta is an Anti Hero is a Polar. You get the idea.

And try Chapman next...Maybe Hopps?  :)

That's a bummer, but is going to happen with every company, and every wood shop. Good thing is Pennswood fully backs their boards, and if you contact Scumco, they will probably replace the board for you.

I finally got to skate my KT Deep Dish the other day. It took a couple ollies to get used to the steep concave but it felt really good. I'm hoping to get to the Manteca park in the morning for a second sesh. The shape is great, wood feels solid... and I'm voting for Hopps next bitches!
Edit: my vote wouldn't go thru, not sure if it's cause of the last poll being connected to the same thread. I'll try again tomorrow.

3. Chapman wood is the shit.

Hopps is also due to drop some new decks soon. I seriously think the Chapman/Hopps 8.125 shape that I had is the best shape I have ever skated. It took about 2-3 sessions to get fully used to it and then it just clicked.

Hopps...man I really want to like hopps for so many reasons.  Mostly because they are great skaters and good dudes.  I have almost bought a deck, or some softgoods on a few occasions, but I never pull the trigger. I think it may have to do with the fact that their art direction is the type of "clean" that borders on boring. That barrier board is my favorite I've seen them release, and with more like that I'd prolly support.

I voted Snack again, but I got so much life left in this Northern Co. + a broken toe. I won't need another deck for at least a couple months...

My Northern Co just arrived and I'm psyched.

To JAesop's post about woodshops...he does have a point. For instance, this Northern 8.25 is the exact same shape/mold as the Politic Extinction (South Central) I just finished riding. It just comes down to what brand you want to support and show love to. I wanted to specifically support Northern and I know it was pressed at South Central, the same as all the Politic boards I rode (which I am a HUGE fan of) so I knew I was going to most likely dig it.

Just 6 more votes and Im the same way i think as i get older i just get too picky about how my board should feel and even if its a board i like and it has life let i have no problem shelving it for a new one.

Here's a picture of the one I'm riding now from when I set it up a few weeks ago. It's 8.5 inches wide.

The boards are good, super strong and last a long time. On this particular board the concave is flat, but on the winged H board that I had before, it was pretty steep. So the concaves do vary from board to board.

Canada, Vancouver specifically. Hopps is apparently distributed by Ultimate over here, which sells to almost every skateshop, so hopefully it shoudn't be too difficult to get one.  I don't think anyone here regularly stocks Hopps decks though. I will be checking my local shop soon to see if anyone around here might have any, or if they might be able to work something into an order for me.

Then I think you're out of luck 'cause I haven't seen any under 8 on the UK. Slam had some 7.875's a while back and the Palomino could order it but it might take a while. A got an 8" but I'm feeling the smaller boards these days.

Anything under an 8 is going to be hard to attain with Hopps.  Especially when the new spring shit drops, I don't think I saw one deck under an 8.125, Most were 8.25-8.5 and a handful of Shaped decks.

not riding one, but i have a jahmal williams pro board on my wall. i can't find the graphic though. maybe a super early one? it's an amazon chilling in the jungle with a tiger behind her and a giant snake on a chain. the spots on the snake form letters that say jahmal williams. hopps circle logo on the nose. anyone seen this board? maybe it was just a sample... got it all warped as a wallhanger hand me down by a dude who's shop also sells hopps.

Boards cost a lot of money for shops, $10 is pretty cheap for shipping considering that profit margins are minimal at best and they give you grip and extra goodies with it.

What I like: graphics....board seems super solid..shape is clean....concave is deep....I know it'll last forever and not sog out.  Chapman is made in the USA which is a selling point for me.

What I don't like : prefer something below an 8...felt tankish and heavy.....If you rode this with 54s and regular Indys it would weigh a ton.

The other thing I noticed was the nose and tail are steep and long but not as scoopy as most boards.

I think people are interested, but it's been the wrong time of year - and hopps were a bit thin on the ground till the new stuff dropped. Hopefully things should start to pick up now. Maybe start the voting for the next round, but give it a little more time then the feedback can keep coming from those who've bought hopps.

I've had two sessions on the abstract series deck so far and I'm really starting to like it. It took me a minute to adjust because the nose/tail are a bit more mellow than the generator boards i've been riding but the deck has a really nice snap to it. So far so good.

Saw that and thought the same thing.

shout out some boards you all want to see on the poll and we can get this thing going. I think it would be nice to see some bigger name board brands that might be struggling i mean with all of these big names starting to go under it almost seems right, people would have thought i was crazy if i suggested putting AWS on the list and look what happened, I did put habitat on one poll and even though the word is that they are going to make it out of this DNA disaster they could probably use some support... not that we offer all that much support but you know what i mean.

anyways like i said call out some board brands and ill get a poll going.

The ollie Japan air Stearns does over the parking lot gap in Meet The Lurkers is one of the best things I've ever seen in my entire life. That whole part is outrageous.

As for the board vote, I'll go with Northern Co, Politic or Sleep. Northern Co looks like they're completely out of boards at the moment tho. Sleep has a brand new line out, Politic has some new stuff dropping in the coming weeks which I'm pretty psyched to see.

Correct me if i'm wrong but isn't Cliche made by the same folks as Almost? they're not really skater owned or anything small.

You're not wrong, Dwindle owned but seen as waltercronkite suggested we throw out some bigger names I thought this would be a good one.
Jeremy and Al still run things over at cliche as far as I'm aware, and Boyle at Dwindle. it's only when you get above this that the skater involvement rapidly declines.
There's plenty of small euro brands I could call out, though I thought it would probably be pointless and those in the US wouldn't be able to get them without heavy postage fees.

How about Slave? Just watched The Frecks vid. It's still a small company with solid roots. And unfortunately it seems like they probably could use a little help right about now.

These three are all really good:

http://www.atlasskateboarding.com (http://www.atlasskateboarding.com)
http://www.pedestrianskate.com (http://www.pedestrianskate.com)

SPOT also has some Hopps, Magenta, Polar, Isle and Traffic boards.

I voted for Politic. I don't think I want to skate anything that isn't South Central now.

I voted Cliche as well, mainly because I want to ride a board with Lucas Puig written on it but also because they are ?15 cheaper than most other decks.
Edit: also because shipping a Heavy board would cost a ton to the UK but I'd be happy if Heavy got it.

This. Well said Satch.

I haven't voted yet, I just can't decide. I would cast my vote for Northern (again). I still have one Northern deck on backup here to set up but I don't think they have any boards in stock at the moment. If they would 'win' this round it would be tough for people to buy. I think Labor and Seasons may be out too.

Also, as much as I love everything about Organika as a company and I have supported them to the fullest over the years (both soft goods and hard goods) I just can't get fully down with Kayo board shapes anymore. Odd dimensions. The 8.25 board has about a 5 inch tail. It's the weirdest damn thing.

2 lurkvilles no fancy lad.

let the record re show that lurkville is now tied for the lead with heavy.

I usually go by what everyone nominates sometimes i nominate just a few of my own like last time i put in fancy lad, Coda and maybe traffic but fancy lad and coda didnt get any votes and nobody nominated them this time so i left all three off but I love fancy lad, they are one of my favorite things about boston skateboarding and skateboarding in general.

I also did this poll right after all of my finals and final projects ended and was very tired. (are any of these excuses working lol).

Ill put fancy ladd on twice next time  ;)

If they have a square tail or the board tapers, there will be a sticker on the top ply of the board, within the front tuck holes telling you the dimensions and the name of the shape. If they are standard popsicle sticks, I don't think there is such an indicative sticker.
Title: Re: Slap's Board Buyer Club: VOTE OR DON'T
Post by: foureyedjim on September 18, 2014, 11:59:24 PM
My assessment of the square tail shapes:

P3 is 8.375at the widest.  The tail is closer to an 8.25 before it rounds out
P1 is 8.75 at the widest.  The tail is around an 8.5 before it rounds out
P5 is 8.625 pretty much all the way down

I personally prefer the p3 because the narrower tail makes is easy to scoop tricks but the bigger nose gives you more room to flick.  Can't speak for the other shapes, but P3 has a good balanced concave.

here's a chart

Fair enough, you can't really order a board for way more cash or ship from the US cheaply (particularly to the UK, those fuckers hit you for 20+% at your door).

I liked the idea though. Would be good if it could be revitalised.

Hey everyone,
Im sorry I never explained why i abandoned this thread, so i will try to do that now and maybe we could even figure out a way to revamp the idea and make it work. First off, I would like to say that in the beginning I started this thread to get people to talk about and skate some lesser known but still quality skateboard companies. I wanted people to realize there were quality boards out there and maybe get people to support some cool companies that are truly by skateboarders for us. I started to see some problems with my idea not to long after the scumco "round" had finished. People really supported scumco in this thread when they won and with it being winter and not to many people really going through boards like they would during the other seasons, i saw hope for the thread. But after the scumco round i started to see more involvement in the voting process and less and less involvement in the actual purchasing and reviewing of the winning companies. I realized that people from different countries probably had no shot at getting their hands on the boards and also that a lot of peoples home skate shops might not even stock the companies boards and those are two big problems. Also i started feeling less freedom when i was buying new boards and that was really annoying to me, to not have the freedom to ride whatever i wanted was a hard thing to overcome. Also and maybe the deciding nail in the coffin for me and this thread was that bigger companies i really respect that are also skaterowned have been hanging on by a thread and going broke over the recent influx of new skateboard brands. So i had to ask myself what would i miss more, brands like habitat or brands like magenta or scumco and to me magentas videos are cool but they do not have the same impact on me that habitat or aws or black labels have had on me and for that im having a hard time letting the recent influx of new companies take over the companies i grew up loving and wanting around forever.

Anyways if anyone has any ideas on how to revamp this idea and make it work better than it has been i am all for it. Maybe we could pick a couple of winners, like two lesser known companies one thats more easily accessible in europe and one that might not be and a bigger company that might need our support now more than ever such as an organika or a habitat or a label. let me know and thanks! :)

So after watching Zero's new chapter of No Cash Value I thought of this thread. I don't really know if it's something worth bringing back because the organization of it sort of feel apart, but it's a thought. Idk I'm just stoked on Zero right now (not sure how long that'll last) and they could probably use some support. I'm also not the one who started this thread in the first place, so I really have no power here.
