Not to burst anyone's bubble, but I think some of the clips in there were filmed in HD and squashed to fit the 4:3 aspect ratio of the rest of the footage.
Nevertheless, awesome edit and really refreshing considering what the Berrics generally is nowadays.

To call someone out for copying implies that the claimant is somehow the originator. I'll tell you a secret: That dude didn't event boards with arbitrary shapes either. I say this with a heavy heart. Erick "Bulldog Dumbass" Winkowski is no longer with Welcum Skateboards. Marky "Lil' Finder" Numbers-McCoy is still on. That's right, childhood friends Erick and Mark have now been slit up by the no bullshit cutthroat skateboard industry. Meanwhile Erick has left his hometown of San Diego to live in Seattle. He's got a job and gets a decent amount of poon, but no sponsor. He doesn't care about that shit. Also he learned some more tranny spinny grabby stally invert tricks. His father is disappointed.

Welcome wanted people to skate and not just use as cruisers. Also Black Label, Scum and 151 also deserve credit for always making shaped boards.

welcome didn't redefine shaped boards for skating, the skateboarding community did. it doesn't matter if they were MEANT for cruising, people decided they wanted to ride them as legit boards so they're legit boards. its been going on for years. welcome got hyped on that and made it their slogan. its cool they're trying to make a big deal out of it but they aren't the first and they didnt redefine anything. its a fun company though.

rocco stole/bribed someone for the mold for the first double kick. it was one of the downfalls of vision. i'm sure they were pissed. i don't think welcome is pissed so much about similar shapes as much as they are pissed about someone making an exact copy fof the shape. it takes time to make a functional shape board, and time is money. being as small as they are i'm sure they're upset about losing something they invested their all into

We've known each other for years. These convos happen. We've talked about everything. He's one of the first people that I hung out with that I actually enjoyed being around and everyone here should know that is something special for me. We're not besties but time spent together counts for something. You should know that a lot of people think he's really handsome so it's not an unusual conversation. It's not really insulting if a couple people don't see what the majority of people do. Would be nice if people thought I was hot too. Also he's probably my favorite skater after Aldrin Garcia's older brother. He's super well rounded and he's got balls of steel.
The whole Welcome board shape thing was explained to me a few minutes ago. It's probably in bad taste for me to share so I won't. It's all water under the bridge now. No one should be angry about it any more, the people involved aren't.
Here's a cool thing Erick Winkowski is going to be doing with a bunch of friends. He's skating all the way from Seattle to Mexico very soon. All I can say is fuck that and good luck, Big E.

You can only see so many yanker to wall jams or stall variations, caveman combinations, and firecrackers before it seems less like fun and creative skating and more like trying to conform to a style thats seen as 'different,' which is regular, but when the balance is right this is as fun to watch as any other kind of skating. This vid is a good example. I thought a few tricks were pretty hideous but quite enjoyed it overall, regardless of how far removed it is from the kind of skating I prefer to do myself.

Exactly. The idea that the now-standard "popsicle" is the definitive shape of a skateboard forever and anything else from this point will be a "gimmick" is absurd. The very first run of Krooked decks had at least 2 shapes that were unconventional. And the Guest decks were usually shaped as well.

But what they do is different because they were one of the few brands who didn't just treat it like a gimmick, unlike a lot of companies. They are busy designing a bunch of new shapes or reviving old shapes and improving on them. Whereas a lot of brands will just throw out one or two non-popsicle boards without a thought, the guys at Welcome are constantly reworking molds to make sure their boards skate just as well as everyone else's non shaped boards. He was telling me that they do three pre-production orders that just the team skates and gives feedback on and once everyone is satisfied with the board, then they'll work on graphics and start selling them. So I think that level of care is what differentiates Welcome's approach to odd-shaped boards and other companies'.

The owner definitely goes back and tinkers with things, the size i ride, while perfect width wise felt a little stubby, so it was reworked into being a little longer and nose width was widened a tad. i dare say that's not the first or last alteration in shape, sorry too jump in mid conversation, just thought id give input on something i know

I haven't read all the comments.. but watched that United... pretty wild stuff. It was like a section from 87 but futuristic... pretty heavy stuff in there. I swore someone was about to get fucked up at the end.
