I hope Crob and Eldy have a couple clips at least. I honestly don’t really know who most of the new riders are at all but stoked to see actual parts in a video from them.
If they turn Carl pro after this I’ll buy my first* Crail board.
*my actual first crail board was a Biebel that was $20 because it was warped.

I suppose Chris Roberts could get a crazy curb trick for this, even though he's been pretty vocal how he only skates for fun and once a week. He has that new twin shape out, so there's that.
Eldridge on the other hand, I believe just started easing into it after being injured forever. Maybe it was in the Bunt episode where he said he doesn't want to put himself through that injury bullshit again. He seems to be focusing hard on golf and getting his golf company going, which I think is awesome. I dig the company, Number Thirty Three, wish I could find some of their stuff in Europe.
I'm sure there won't be Crob / Eldy parts but the new squad is really amazing. Chocolate is doing great.

My buddy is saying dec 16th. Dunno if that’s premiere or like a drop on thrasher.
chris roberts and justin eldridge, even when they were in their prime, were not pros i cared about their footage, so why would i want a part from them now? they were never anyones favorite and were parts most people skipped on the regular.justin Eldridge was never skipped in my crew. thats pretty much all i remember him for tbh he came out with some really progressive nollie tricks on some 10 stair rails even as an amateur. no real sense of individuality or unique style at all, just raw talent and they dressed him up the best they could in the fourstar and es gear. Robbie McKinley too never cared for any of those guys they were just super cookie cutter for the time. All incredibly talented dont get me wrong, i was going hard during that era and i realize how next level the skill was at the time. it just was not stuff i was going out of my way to show people.

When I say Canadian boards i dont mean necessarily made in Canada
There is a guy with a shop that i really like to support in Guelph Ontario called The Ward that does his own boards with Chapman
There is another brand called Comacan that damn near everyone in my area is riding that i believe is from the same shop or somewhere else in the states. i thought the graphics were kind of corny with skulls type thing but there is this 8.75 curb killer deck (Square tail, round nose) and a 9" Shovel deck (square nose, round tail) I am super interested in.
There is also another shop I wanted to shout out called THe Local in Hamilton that looks really dope and they did a collab with Heroin recently and made some really cool looking boards.
Studio is great i have skated their boards in the past and i have one of their boards on the wall (Bryan Wherry pro model with a stack of 90s hip hop CD cases). A lot of people complain about the Control woodshop tohugh so i guess its hit and miss. the ones i had were all fine!

The thing I find funny about Chris Roberts when he talks about skating for fun, he talks about it as if he has had some exhaustive career where he has really taken it seriously and had a real fruitful career with multiple video parts, extensive touring & magazine coverage, it's like he really did all he could, and has nothing left to give, in his mind at least.

Side note - anyone else never bought skate product based on the pro? That’s literally never crossed my mind before, like, “this dude is sick I can’t wait to buy his board/shoe etc”. Always bought product purely based on how it feels. If it’s a brand I don’t like but the board feels good I’ll just remove the graphics. The odds that a pro I like will have the exact shape I ride available when I’m buying my next deck are pretty low, and in all honesty I just don’t care. Not knocking supporting specific pros at all, just curious if anyone else isn’t motivated by the pro when buying product?
Should be a good vid.
I think Eldridge said that Megan Baltimore contacted him and asked to remove/save a clip he posted on Insta. A pivot fakie, maybe? So that could be going in there as a guest clip in a part, or a montage.
@danielpolicelli think there'll be a clip or two of Roberts and Eldridge? Congrats on all your success btw, hard work pays of.

That's the premiere my shop Holistic is hosting. Nitro Bar 416 Penn Ave West Reading, PA 19611 if you want to swing through and support. We're hosting it in a giant indoor garage that's heated. We're doing a Game of Skate before and a band after the showing. I believe the premiere info was sent to most shops, the first rounds posted are probably the ones that replied back the quickest. There's still a list of TBA dates/locations on the bottom of Chocolates page.

Surprised they didn't turn Carl pro after the premiere. He's more than deserving at this point.
Video opened with a funny skit that had a lot of call backs to the previous choc vids as well as old choc riders.
James Capps first part, 2 songs.
Eric Herrera and Jordan Trahan were next (had their own full parts)and stole the show IMO.
Stevie Perez was very surprising and skated a lot of cool spots and put it down.
Jesus had a lot of footage, almost a full part from what I remember. Kenny Anderson had a lot as well.
Raven had a few tricks then a kind of whatever Girl montage.
Carlisle Aikens was by far the crowd favorite and brought some good energy back into the video. He was also sprinkled all throughout the video in other guys parts.
Vincent Alverez last part, 2 songs.
Best video out of Crailtap in a long time.

I'm stoked I can watch the whole video and turn it off before Vincent's part. Then Carl has the last part he deserves

Yeah I’ll pass on the Alvarez too. His first breakout part like 15 years ago was cool but the novelty wore off almost immediately.DM him like a man. I feel like he was ghost on IG for awhile so maybe injury. Would like him on but the team rips as is.
I want answers on the Hosea situation. Has he been injured, did he fall off and stop getting good clips, is he saving it for another video/another brand? Or is Crail actually as dumb as they continuously prove themselves to be?

Random question but isn't raven the cousin of Nick Diamond or whatever he calls himself? His full name is Nick Tershay yet Raven has the last name Tershy. I'm mixed on VA. I like that he skates crusty spots with speed, and I think he has an interesting trick selection. But I also sometimes feel like he's a "quantity over quality" skater, which is maybe more of a criticism of his editors than anything. In some parts he'll have some really crazy switch trick on a harsh natural transition, then the next clip is like, a crook on a pretty small ledge, or a frontside grind on a mellow looking bank. Given this is a mainline Chocolate entry, I'm sure this part will be a little more fine tuned though.

Why do companies insist on having a “premiere” on YT and make you wait until 12:00 pacific time to watch a fuckin video?? You already had “real” premieres just put the video already. Fuckin irks me man. Crail is so fuckin dumb.Analytics say that more people will have time to watch shit in the afternoon than the morning. 12 PST means people can watch on their lunch break. 3 EST, people are starting to finish up for the day and are likely to fuck off and watch something on their phone, job depending.
I don't get the VA hate. Dude has had a good head on his shoulders for his entire career and been loyal to his sponsors. This board worships a dude that primarily does squirrely bonk tricks and firecrackers for his originality, but VA is still skating crusty ass spots no one else seems to skate and in my opinion has more diversity in his own approach than Max. Not my favorite but don't get the hate.

the intro was funny but definitely could have been cut down time wise. Trahans part was good. Carl's part was a banger but couldnt help but feel like some of his clips were pretty old, like the ollie from his "welcome to the team" ad and even his ender seemed like it was filmed at least 2 years ago.

Was it? It felt like something that should have been left at the premiere along with the “no smoking in the auditorium”. That and the extra long “trailer” for Chocolate Tour 2 (I guess) don’t make sense in the context of YouTube. Who knows, maybe there’s someone out there that loves the tradition of SHT sound, but the novelty of all that wore off when we hit the 2000s and just feels like a cheap nostalgia grab

Maybe it’s because I grew up on chocolate tour and yeah right, but I just couldn’t get into this at all. Stopped watching after Jordan Trahan’s part. I’ll definitely finish it, probably soon.I loved Chocolate, and loved Chocolate Tour. but I always felt outside of when they added MJ, Chocolate was more on the stylish side of skating over taking it to the next level, whereas Girl had a ton of stylish guys, it was filled with guys who were truly taking skating to the next level in Koston, Guy, Carroll and Rick, and later with P-Rod, Mike-Mo and CK1. Chocolate has always pushed style from guys like Gino, Kenny Anderson, Scott Johnston, Stevie, etc. Girl has always been the next level tech guys.
Perhaps I’m just old and mourning my own loss of relevancy/youth/whatever, but it used to be that girl and chocolate were cream of the crop, the ones setting the bar. Where’s the P Rod or Marc Johnson element in this? They seem to have doubled down on style guys/nyc skaters/“creative” types but there’s other companies doing that better anyways.
Likely scenario is that eventually I’ll come around on it and I’m just jaded by clinging on to what they were in my youth.

I was just responding to the 360 aspect. More a product of era. It would be impossible to make something that would be as impactful as Chocolate Tour was these days. While they aren't up to the standards of Chocolate at its peak, no brand really is. Online parts have changed the game. Whereas when Chocolate was in its Golden era there were maybe 4 to 5 big videos a year. Stevie putting the brown in chocolate with that cumbia.
yes, I liked it more as I wouldve expected. Carlisle has the good switch ride away where you show "back", haha, I love that
Pleasantly surprised by the Stevie Perez part although it was hard not to think about how good his Pretty Sweet part was and how he’s never really come close to that level of skating since.I actually think his The Flare part is his best. But, like almost everyone who got on crailtap around that time (Mike-Mo, Malto, Vincent), he suffered a brutal injury (broken hip). Surprised he came back from it.
The same goes for Vincent. I’m never mad to see him skate but it has been a pretty consistent downward trajectory since his Pretty Sweet part with nothing but predictable tricks at this point.
I like James Capps but he doesn’t strike me as a Chocolate rider. If there was Hosea footage to put in the video, it would have made for a better intro.
Carl rips.
I could go my whole life without seeing Kenny Anderson’s spindly legged manuals again. He looks like the English professor who tries to be really conscious and pretentious, who doesn’t own a TV and takes a liking to the freshmen girls at college.
I liked Stevie’s part, but Stevie falls in the catagory that when you’re watching him it’s really enjoyable but after it’s over you forget every trick he did.
Carl lowkey looks like a black Matt Stone to me.
I get how people say his style looks a little forced at times but I think when he lands he’s just really feeling it and flowing with the make.

Switch hardflip an 11 stair for your ender in 2021 as a 22 year old. Also frontside flips an 11 and switch shoves a 10 in his part. Also a line where he fakie 5-0s a bench, does a half cab flip, then bigspin backtails another bench. Imagine a video coming out of Southern California with that line in it, or one of the primitive dudes trying to pass that off in a part. He’s getting so many passes for being a cool nyc guy.
Aikens has incredible style and pop but people are talking about him like he’s a SOTY contender or a future legend. Legends have a lot of substance to go with things like style/pop.

I don't think this video was really made for the current landscape of video consumption, and I ultimately think that's going to be it's downfall. However, it is refreshing to see them sticking to their guns and making something that feels like a girl/chocolate vid, rather than trying to adapt to what FA/Hockey/Supreme/Illegal Civ are doing.
That said, this video kind of felt like a stylistic mess that took elements from all the old Chocolate videos. And while that would have been fine in small doses, it kind of made it hard to really understand what Chocolate is all about in 2021. There's not much of an existing link happening between the Chocolate days in the 90s, so the brand kind of feels like it's still running but unclear who is behind the wheel.
Carl had some incredible clips but I just can't get behind it overall.
He was much better a few years ago when his style was less exaggerated and his pants were baggy without being ridiculous. Now he's got the wavy arms + afterbang combo, that combined with the gear makes him look like a really wide inflatable tube man in the wind.
I could go my whole life without seeing Kenny Anderson’s spindly legged manuals again. He looks like the English professor who tries to be really conscious and pretentious, who doesn’t own a TV and takes a liking to beating and sexually assaulting the freshmen girls at college.

Vincent Alvarez’ approach to skating was so unique and had me excited when he came onto the scene, but it doesn’t really seem like it’s progressed much since. Feel like the video parts are all the same at this point.
once again craig is all over the place... The people that made the brands great aged out and they did a bad job of transitioning to a new generation as most companies do.
The fact that Rowan Davis and "Manchild" are on the same team is a shame.

I brought up Genesis because people got mad about my own opinion of his tricks and that he’s “pro AF” and are the same posters going all in on VA. Many also worship Max as most of this forum and Max and Vincent both do their share of the same shit over and over and even share a few tricks consistently. But somehow VA deserves hate because people can’t get over their weird Chocolate nostalgia boner.
Not many skate teams last a long time with a consistent roster and image and most go downhill, but people pile it on forCrailcraig.

Max does front noseslides and nose slide/nose bonk 270 variations quite often. Both dudes have some slop to their skating but one is cool the other is passé. Max mostly does kickflips, a few tres or switch flips thrown around and Vince does heel flip variations. Lots of skaters are somewhat limited and the irony is in which ones get shit on and which are celebrated.
I don’t FFWD Max parts. They’re often a nice break from normal but I don’t seek them out. His firecracker stuff is pretty nuts, but at the same time there’s only so much of one person skating one feature of one spot I can handle.
Also you do realize that the majority of the world doesn’t celebrate Christmas right? Just a lazy Saturday.

As someone else said it’s quality over quantity. And out of a two song and likely 50+ trick part there are a whopping SIX fuckin grinds, and of the few flip tricks he does they’re either a heelflip or something fakie. All this old, boring, no pop motherfucker does is spin and slide; it’s not appealing and nowhere near reminiscent of AA’s approach to skating, which mind you completely revolves around injury, not just…I dunno, not being good? I’m sure VA is super nice/fun and most definitely was extremely loyal to Crail (though where else would he go?) so it’s not surprising he had last part, but it most definitely wasn’t based on his skills. It’s a really boring and repetitive part that closed out an otherwise amazing video.

Last part? I dunno, not my call. I don’t think it matters as much anymore with how often videos come out. He put in a ton of work and it coulda been edited down a bit better, but I don’t regret watching it and didn’t find it downright bad. I think both he and Max really maximize their own specific style to a point where I can expect the types of spots and tricks their videos will contain. You kinda made my point for me right there lol. That shouldn't be the takeaway after watching the last part in an anticipated full-length video from a brand that has had so many amazing riders and videos over the years. Or any part in said video.
That came from me because I saw them do a few of the same tricks. It’s definitely reaching. My point was lost but basically that I felt people were hating unnecessarily on VA’s skill and approach rather than saying “it’s not for me anymore”, but Slap operates on obsessions as if they’re consensus and Max fans are really devoted.

rewatching gives me the same take. i honestly think this is video of the year. va isn’t a distaste of mine, just not a person that should have closed this video. carl sw hard flip roll across the street should’ve ended the video, when you watch the clip the first time you just expect the credits to roll after.. then, vincent? it just straight up does not work. he could’ve been second to last no problem but, it was off-putting the moment his title rolls and the part could’ve debunked that but, it doesn’t. it’s not a bad part, it could’ve been second to last out of respect/seniority but, it does not fit as a last part of this video. even if you dislike guy’s laser flips and ledge dancing the way i do, you still have to admit that he was more suitable for last part than the new guys were in pretty sweet. this video simply didn’t work as : ‘introduction video part of all new rippers with an og last part’ layout. vincent is just clearly not last part worthy in this video, maybe if the video wasn’t filled with such a hungry am team and he only had kenny and the nine club to work harder than then maybe, but, no.I loved BunnyHop but there is no way it was better than the Gronze World video. That video is a modern classic for real.
