Title: Pro Skater’s Restaurants
Post by: Newphone on January 03, 2024, 10:37:02 AM
With the recent conversations around Tyshawns restaurant closing, Nuge’s being featured in EL, and Neen having similar ventures in Austin and Chicago, seems like a thread worthy topic.  Tony Hawk just opened a fried chicken place, and of course sal has pizzanista going on 15 years I believe, anyone else I’m missing?

Any other ex pros or current, who have tried or succeeded in a restaurant?

Any restaurant people (or people with online business school degrees) on here see stuff they like/don’t like in the concepts?

Bob Burnquist had a brazilian inspired restaraunt in Leucadia in the early '00s, he talks about it in his 411 day in the life from back then. I went in January 2003 before I even moved to San Diego, when I was just visiting my brother. I think I got an acai bowl because I was super hyped on acai at the time, having learned about it from his Day in the Life. I don't remember if the restaraunt was still open by the time I moved out there in August.

Hell, I don’t know. It was like 1999 the last time I thought about it.

Place does look sick.

People think there’s good margins in burgers but pizza and beer is as good a route to profitability as there is in restaurants.

Pizza is also one of the foods we’re people purposely order leftovers, giving you the chance to sell a single customer multiple meals.

I like that Brad is also active in the social media part of it, some of these places you can’t even find much of a presence online, brads updating with some humor on insta.

Ben Kadow should open a pop-up called eat shit.

Even if no one else went there, Evan could single handedly keep the business afloat.

Would unironically love to see Ben open a restaurant he has pretty in depth cooking/restaurant experience if I’m not mistaken.

I went in there like December of '03 to get some hardware or something, and ended up watching the beginning of Home Alone with Willy. The barbershop wasn't even running anymore at that point, but the stuff was there.
