Huf needs more diversity. Who do you think will be the first person of color that goes Pro for Huf?
-
awful
-
Can I just be the first to say... WHO GIVES A FUCK
But also, why the fuck does it matter? One of the best things about skateboarding is very few give a shit about what nationality/race/colour/religious aspects other skateboarders are because at the end of the day we're all enjoying the same thing.
The dumb thing about posts like these is you're probably thinking to yourself, I'm discussing diversety and how there should be a black/asian/whatever you want to say type of dude on every roster... probably also thinking that doesn't make you racist when really, it kinda does.
The fact of it all is, if a dude skates good and represents the brand in a manner in which the company feels is good, it shouldn't matter what damn colour/race/whatever he is and will probably get hooked up regardless. These days however, with more corporate involvement and popularity, shits starting to sound like a fucking draft pick when people talk about sponsors like this and I find it fucking funny as shit.. cause it really aint like that at all in the industry, ya'll just smoking too much damn weed and talking shit on the internets thinking your smart cause your casually being racist and probably think its a damn conspiracy..
Well yo usir can

Joey Pepper isn't white.

For all my haters out there. Ignoring privilege is how privilege endures. Anyone else think the latest Huf clip smacks of irony with the music supervision? Back to the original question... I hope Genesis Evans from Welcome gets hooked up he rules!

Yeah, when a business hires mostly white men, nobody ever questions it, I mean, aside from in EVERY INDUSTRY.

But hey, this isn't technology, its sports. And if you look at sports like the NBA and the NFL it becomes clear that there just aren't that many african american athletes.... ::) ::) ::)

When I worked for AIG, we actually had a diversity program and through it, hired a black man and woman. I just thought that was funny that they need a program for it. But corporate companies are funny like that. It's as stereotypical as it gets. At my old job, most all managers are white men, very few women on the top tier, average workers are white and asian with a sprinkle of other races in there and you lower tier workers that are like filers and what not are all minorities from Filipinos, mexicans, blacks, etc. We even had a management department that does all the bitch work for our building from moving desks and other manual laborers and none of them were white.

skateboarding is predominately white. most owners of companies are white. most companies advertise to white skaters.
most us non-white skaters understand that and are cool with it.

idk man, if you ever been or go to LES park you'll see how not-white skateboarding has become, and I definitely think reflecting that more in companies would be nothing but a good thing.
Also I bet Clinten is white af and doesn't recognize his own white privilege. You know who gives a fuck? Non-white people...

I worked at amazon when i was 22. I was a photo editor and worked in the office area, and not the warehouse. I got so much shit for clocking in on the wrong clock by people who didn't know who i was, because young black guy = warehouse drone. I was the also the only black male who working in the office area. and 1 of 2 black people there. Also we didn't have a dress code. I also had an interview with a graphics company whose receptionist funneled me into the packaging dept group orientation and basically ignored me when i tried to explain to her, this is the wrong place... shit is fucked up.
but
I think pro/am skateboarding pretty adequately represents the racial diversity, even if huf doesnt have a black dude

oh i know. skateboarding has become really multicultural now. one of the few activities where you can see white, black, hispanic, asian, etc people all chillin together and that's dope, but i'd still say the majority of skaters and pro skaters are white, so it's expected that these companies are going to be majority white and advertise to that demographic. i'm just saying i'm not surprised or even outraged or anything.

They don't even consider themselves Asian. Actually last time I took a survey, they did have the category Pacific Islander. I went to a school with a huge Filipino population and the last thing they wanted to be known as was Asian. The whole pacific islander thing is weird. I know a guy in the Philippines and no one says that at all. It's like a Filipino American thing.

fair enough. i agree, its nothing to get outraged about, but like i said a conscious effort to be more inclusive is never a bad decision. it just seems like people (read: one or two posters) got all up in arms about the topic and cried out racism over simply introducing the idea that increasing diversity is a good idea.

Wait, I thought dylan was Puerto Rican?

lol at the person who said to recognize the fact they'res no white skaters on Huf was being racist

You must know the shitty Filipinos who think they're hawaiian and wear that awful cukui shit. My wife is Filipino, she considers herself Asian. She can't stand the kids previously mentioned. It's weird, people from Singapore, Malaysia or Japan don't pull that pacific islander bullshit.

He's very white indeed and is from one of the most racist countries in the world... STRAYA!
Truth be told, I hadn't posted on here in a while so I figured I'd pump out an un-necessary rant to fuel a bit of discussion for the thread.. Kudo's for calling me out on the whole white privilege though, although I'm well aware of it, it doesn't make much of a difference when the vast majority of white people aren't aware of it.
