I dropped out of film school and have an actual job in Hollywood. Wish I had skipped film school altogether, but that’s a story for a different time

Today I re-watched Blade Runner and Blade Runner 2049. Tomorrow I might fuck around and re-watch The Matrix trilogy

Big facts. I learned a lot more watching movies and reading about them then I did in school.

I didn’t learn a thing in film school that I hadn’t already been taught in my high school film classes. Everything I’ve learned has been on the job and in my personal time

I love that movie.

i love that movie too, although i'd be hard-pressed to explain why...Joaquin Phoenix is one of the most splendid degenerates in all of the world of film in that--and Philip S. Hoffman is as brilliant as usual.

and speaking of this movie, i hate to make this about farts and poo poo and stuff, but we need humor whenever we can get it these days, right? this is one of those...uh...events caught on film that it is hard to watch once, because there is simply so much going on:

The invisible man was a lot better than expected. Had reservations going into it because I didn't like Upgrade at all. Elizabeth Moss helped. A lot.

I think The Master might be one of the greatest movies of the 2010s.

Scary Movie 2.

As in I just watched it.

Is it an award winning movie? Nope. Is it funny and does it make me laugh? Yea.

Police Story. Almost as enjoyable as Snake In The Eagle's Shadow.

What are some of the older Jackie Chan films you would also recommend?

Just watched The VVitch the other day. I feel like that film induced more unsettling feelings than The Lighthouse, but only by a slight margin. I have no real complaints other than the fact that the actors lines were damn-near unintelligible without subtitles.
Highly recommend if you can understand garbled Puritan English or can stand to read subtitles.

I agree The Witch was a lot more unsettling than The Lighthouse. Also it tripped me out how intense of some of those scenes were for such young kids. What a wild thing to be so young and act of some of those scenarios. Thought the boy did a really amazing acting job.

Oh, absolutely. All of the children in that film did a fantastic job of representing their characters to the point that you start to actually believe the anguish they're portraying to be real.

Anyone else cracking into their long overdue watchlist during this time?

So far this week I have watched Capote (2005), My Own Private Idaho (1991), Elephant (2003), Honey Boy (2019), and Good Time (2017).

Making my way through the watchlist too. So far I've hit Friday Night, See No Evil Hear No Evil, Waves, Cookie's Fortune, and An Autumn Afternoon. Waves might be the worst movie I have seen in a long time.

I think people were talking about The Favourite a couple pages back?
This is probably my favorite movie by that director, it just got put up on the Criterion site:

Really good quarantine movie

I watched The VVItch for the first time a few days back too.

It was pretty great.

And, yes, I watched it with subtitles, mostly because my girlfriend is french and cannot understand any accent which isn't a standard american accent, but even reading the subtitles I didn't understand what they were talking about without thinking about it for a minute. Anyway, the acting is so good that the actual dialog becomes less important.

I have The Lighthouse downloaded that I've been waiting to watch for a while, I want to watch it soon now.

yep, going through the watchlist- the most recent were Tropic Thunder- i haven't seen this one in years, still hilarious and robert downey jr and tom cruise....MY GOD  ;D

JOKER: missed it in theatres and found a great quality link- just might have been one of the best movies i've seen for a long time but i found it to be very unsettling (i am very sensitive) to see him slip into his psychosis over time of the movie- i work with  people with different mental illnesses and scizophrenia too and it reminded me of that maybe a lil too much sometimes....

Oceans 11- watched it yesterday adn haven't seen it since maybe when it came out! Such a fun to watch movie for me. watched half way through and thought i just watched it for 5 minutes

Just watched Color Out of Space with nic cage. Pretty good movie to watch if you liked Mandy or just him in general. It reminded me of The Thing a lot.

The Golden Glove aka Der Goldene Handschuh

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt7670212/

This movie was fucked up.  I randomly came across a review of it, and it basically described it something more than "torture porn".  I usually can't stand movies like that, but this one caught my attention after reading about it more.  Most of the reviews were extremely positive but extremely cautionary.... like 'this will stay in your head for days, so disgusting you will need to shower after', etc...

It was a pretty good movie, but wasn't nearly as disturbing as I was expecting.  I liked it because it was a far more realistic take of the 'serial-killer' genre.  I can't stand the hollywood-style serial killers... you know, the diabolical college professor who outsmarts law enforcement with supreme intelligence.  It's made up movie shit.

This is based on a true story, and really emphasizes the filth and depravity these types truly live in.  It really is a disgusting movie, and not really the violence... just the existence.  Some pretty abhorrent sex scenes.  It didn't burn into my head like when I watched Irreversible or Man Bites Dog, but it's still pretty rough.

Just watched Das Boot. Besides being a great movie, it helped put this quarantine into perspective (50 dudes in a submarine for months on end)

Not really a movie but I got round to watching EP 1 of Chernobyl - loving the horror movie vibes of it.
