My nephew is looking to get into skating and he was asking me about wax. I want to help him but I don’t want him to get hurt. I feel like most of the wax skate shops sell is for average to advanced skaters which works fine for me, but nothing that’s good for beginners. Any recommendations? Also he mainly wants to learn grinds but not slides if that helps.
I'm still confused on whether you consider shop wax too slick, or not slick enough for a beginning skater.
It depends on who you ask. Some feel it's better to slip out than stick. Others will say the opposite. There is no "training wax". If you don't want it too slick, use less. If you want it really slippery so it's easier to slide, use more.
Before waxing and grinding anything, make sure he knows how to ollie into an axle stall on a dry curb consistently. Then you add a little wax so he can grind.
