So, about that Utley slide...
[close]

Don't wussify the MLB like the NFL. In five years we'll have pitchers wearing masks and nets to prevent fans from getting hit by foul balls.

Shame Tejada got hurt. But Utley effectively won the game for his team. ANY player would've done the same in the playoffs. It's engrained in baseball culture.

Now I do think there at least needs to be an attempt to tag the base. The Kang injury was actually more controversial in my eyes, because the baserunner was so far off the basepath.

I agree that it was a rough but a legit slide, that's old school baseball for you.  At least he didn't go spikes in like they used to!  That was just bad positioning by Tejada, not necessarily his fault... he was thinking double play all the way and got twisted around.  He wouldn't have had a chance for that second out.  Best believe there will be repercussions for that down the line.

Similar to the Matt Holiday take out of Marco Scutaro in 2012, though Scutaro didn't fracture a fibula.  Yikes.

Here's hoping that pisses off the Mets and motivates them to dominate these last two games, they beat 1 of the 2 aces so the ball is in their court.  Plus, if all is going well put a fastball in Utley's ear while you are at it.

That's overdoing it a bit.
They're doing LA a favor, Utley can't hit a beachball thes days. I wonder how Utley even got on base to start with

Houston is in BIG trouble, total meltdown. My dreams of Texas vs Houston is going south quickly, Toronto just tied the series..

Mets blew it big time... now they gotta go back to LA to face Greinke.  They have DeGrom on the hill, but still, other than game 3 their bats have been pretty silent.

Congrats Cubs.

Royals/Astros tonight is gonna be a straight up brawl.  Can't wait to see who comes out!

Fucking Toronto.  They're really trying to beat out that whole "polite Canadian" thing.  What a bunch of classless fucking assholes.
Care to explain? I'm at work so I'm just checking the score online.

yeah I was pulling for the Blue Jays but that was really shitty... Umps made the right call and people lost their shit.  What a mess.  Still, congratulations Jays.

Depending on what the Royals do we could be looking at an all blue MLCS!

if you haven't seen it this was the 7th:

It's done. If our bullpen wasn't so shitty, this could've been a different series. Still a hell of a season.

congrats to the Royals (drink one Hate!)

Also congrats is due to the Astros, who far far far succeeded their expectations for the season.  Hope you guys make some minor bullpen tweaks and come out stronger next year.

Everybody is waiting on you, Mets....

Monster game in LA, it will be the most watched game of the year.

Fully on the Mets bandwagon, they need to get Greike out of the game early, only way to win.

this whole jose bautista bat flip controversy is so corny. these unwritten baseball rules are lame and outdated. if dude hits a huge home run, let him celebrate. don't want him to celebrate? throw a better pitch next time.

Although I'm a fan of the unwritten rules and the subsequent beanings from angry pitchers that come from them, I think Bautista's bat flip was ok given the circumstance.  I mean it's the post-season (and a game 5!); you play hard, get hurt, celebrate like fuck.  It's one thing to flip a bat in a meaningless situation in July but that was the biggest moment of his career and a HUGE moment for the team/fans.  Plus, that was a masterful bat flip... reminded me of Randy Watson dropping the mic and walking off the stage.

You better believe he's getting drilled for that next year.

Defensively Baez has been shaky both times the Cubs called him (going back to his first stint last year) thats what scares me.  I'm not too worried about him at the plate nowadays as it seems like he's fixed a lot of the issues that plagued him the first time around.
