Been listening to alot of Husker Du lately. I used to dig them a lot at the end of college, and always thought they were WAY ahead of their time.
This is my favorite song off Zen Arcade - so I looked it into a little more and found this out:
Originally released as a double album on two vinyl LP's, Zen Arcade tells the story of a young boy who runs away from an unfulfilling home life, only to find the world outside is even worse. The album incorporates elements of jazz, psychedelia, acoustic folk, pop, and piano interludes, concepts rarely touched on in the world of hardcore punk.
These were just punk kids in 84 squatting a church in St. Paul Minnesota - but man, their songs speak about shit 30 years later so clearly...
Divide and Conquer is so good too...again, ahead of it's time.
