Some #raddad will get charged with child abuse after forcing his tiny kid to rack himself on huge rails and slam on his face down huge stairs way beyond his ability and level of strength. #thankyouskateboarding #skatecoach

The gap between intelligent/healthy skaters vs unintelligent/unhealthy skaters will keep growing. It won't be trendy to be healthy and intelligent, it will be normal. Lots of factors are contributing to this.

Do you see this as a good thing or a bad thing?

Why would it be a bad thing?

I definitely think it's a good thing. More focus, less wear and tear on the body, longer careers.

The way I see it, the only people who would see it as a bad thing are folks who appreciate skateboarding's outsider appeal for all the wrong reasons. Anything that makes it more palatable to Mom and Dad will make it "less cool" to some. Fuck those people. I'm open to hearing other perspectives on it, though.
At this point, I think I’ve seen Bam’s penis more than my own.

I feel any naysayers are going to be people who want to live in the past. Good call on the Mom's and Dad's, they probably skate too!

Skating with more superfluous wardrobe accessories.
Scarves.
Pockets everywhere. Full pockets. Full of coins and keys just jangling around.
Courier bags are the new fanny-pack.
Trench coats.
Umbrellas.

The vibe will be similar to 1999 and 2000 where the name of the years have such a nice ring to it that everyone operates slightly out of their comfort zone because we are more self aware than usual. For example Wyclef Jean made a song with the Rock because fuck it why not.

This cultural shift will impact skating in 2 ways:

1. A lot of potentially mediocre projects that would've released this year will wait and come out as heavy but weird 2020 projects making that year more stacked than any stretch of the 2010's.

2. Everyone start dressing like Ben Kadow to the point where it will force him to go through a surprisingly well received backpack rap phase.

I've seen this first hand with this same kid/dad at my local

that poor kid's gonna end up shooting his dad one day over all of the trauma, constant verbal abuse, and occasional physical abuse from that monster of a parent

I've also seen much more rad dads as of lately which leads me to think your statement might be right?
But i also live in Southern California and more entitled kids and their wealthy parents come to my local than most other parks in my area

I hope regular fitting pants are gonna be trendy again, so my wardrobe comes back into style. I can't do baggy or tight. Just saw a photo of Bieber in some light blue baggies so that trend will no doubt be dead by the end of the year

Skate tools will be only called t-tools in 2020.

"Hey you got a t-tool?"
