-
I am pretty down with his skateshop. I think i even still have a few stickers
-
When Power was kicking they did a tour and came through my city last summer....cool ass dude, that's for sure.
-
In the beginning that nose manny he did under the sign at the spot Tom Penny killed was awesome.

cant but love this dude
his birdhouse parts have been amazing and his most recent one was one of my favorite parts
seems like a all around nice dude too!
-
One of my favorite video parts is his footy from Balance in the World of Chaos. All ways been a favorite of mine.
-
i've watched winona riders so many times growing up. my og tape was a copy my friend made with a vhs camcorder in front of his tv. it really doesn't sound and look that much better. eh
how do people forget about old g&s vids? so classic and so ahead of their time. wow willy.
-
His Uno part was the shit. Smith grind kick flip blew my mind at the time.
-
yessir
-
he gets generally overlooked and never gets the respect he deserves. All his old Birdhouse parts were soooooooooooooooooo ahead of their time.
-
if i remember correct
didnt he halfcab late shove the small gap at carlsbad?
-
when i first started skating, a long time ago... i photocopied a birdhouse ad of him doing a bluntslide on a bench. shit hung on my wall for a year or two. i was at the library with my mom. heh
-
damn... thanks for the trip down memory lane. I haven't seen Footage or Winona Riders in over at least 15 years. Willy owned Webb park.
-
A favourite to watch for sure. But that 411 interview gives me mega second hand embarrassment.
-
All i have to say about this is STUN
how old was he in that fuckin 15 or some shit.

Willy was the first pro i ever met and he made such an impression on me...
My friends skated and I had just started getting into it, and I think one of his cousins or something was in the military and lived on the airbase that I grew up on (Kadena Air base, in Okinawa, Japan)...
being on an airbase before all the internet stuff and everything I had seen some mags and the only vid i'd ever seen was trilogy, but then when Willy came to visit he put on a little skate clinic, demo thing at the youth center and so many kids showed up.. it was crazy. All the other kids were just there for product I think but I got a couple minutes to talk to him and he was so down to earth and so cool... I was too scared to skate infront of him as I'd never seen anyone skate so damn good. I remember he was doing like kicky late shuvs on flat just messing around and I just couldn't comprehend that shit... and i remember he was trying some manual tricks and I was blown away but these little shits around me were complaining that he wasn't landing every trick every time...
Then he brought so much product for a proddy toss and the kids went nuts.. they just wanted everything he was wearing too from his shirts to his shoes.. willy gave everything he had and ended up leaving in only his pants and socks!
Earlier when we'd talked it was so cool and later on when the youth center wouldn't let him skate without a helmet, I gave him mine to skate. Later on during the product toss he was handing out his shoes, and I remember he saw me and he came straight into the crowd and handed me a shoe (which he signed).. still got the shoe (pro model on vans.. and such a sick shoe WTF VANS willy should be on vans for life) and still got a photo that i have of him with me...
He was seriously swamped with kids non stop just grabbing him and asking for more proddy.. dude was so calm and so nice to everyone and just such a fucking amazing skateboarder. I remember that as a distinct moment when I knew I wanted to do something with my life with skateboarding as I just fell inlove with it all so much more. Willy was and still is one of my all time favs... and I stuck with skating and even though I absolutely suck at it I still work in the industry in Australia, running a few skate shops, and being TM for Stussy skate and perhaps Adidas in the very near future... and I'd like to think Willy had a lot to do with that

All respect to willy,he have been pro for nearly a decade and is still ripping+he seems to be an all around super nice guy.
-
hes sick for a greedy guy
-
Willy is legend status. I see him as the epitome of late 90s street and he was one of the few who skated clean in the early 90s. Vans never should have booted him.
-
I'll always love his part in The End. Willy will always be righteous.

Fuck yeah. His part in The End was epic. One of the best videos of all time.
-
Pro for over 16 years, actually. I've never seen him bail a trick in all the years I had skated with him.
-
pretty recent

Vans should have kept him on!
-
I'm just gonna shit on everybody's parade here for a minute and say that Willy Santos has always been pretty boring to watch. Obviously he's pretty skilled at the whole skateboard thing, but the absence of flavour, the spice, the hot sauce, he doesn't have. AKA Blandus Jones.
-
Balance in the world of chaos was sick. willy with some sick lines at balboa or what ever that place was.
-
I've always dug willy since the G&S days.
-
silly wantos
-
anyone find his part from the second Union Wheels video (not Right To Skate)? its a rad part an he skates to Rebel Reble by Bowie.
-
Willy rips and is one of the nicest dudes ever. I'm stoked he's part of the Satori Movement, be on the lookout for WWshop/Satori wheel.
-
i've been a santos fan forever, the dude stays awesome.
-
i havent seen that dude skating in forever! I don't give a shit about meeting people but i met him at the providence gravity games in 2000 and Dude was super nice. Carlos deAndrade sticks out as a dude that really nice to us back then too. but hell yeah for willy getting onto Satori!
-
Bumping an old thread because he deserves more admiration. This man is a skateboarder's skateboarder. Always seemed like he was pretty focused on progressing and not much else. I checked the Birdhouse site and was pleased to see he is still on the team and still has some boards out. The rad thing is that with this guy I am sure he is still out skating. Would be great if he put out one more video part.
I just re-watched his beginning part and this part for his skate shop. Willy is the raddest.

Ever since Winona Riders, I've been stoked on Willy's skating. He was such a fixture throughout the 90's in TWS and 411.
I still have all the krooked wall hanger boards I bought from Willy's Workshop while stationed in San Diego. I actually made it a point to go search his shop out even though there were other closer shops.
The clincher was when I was skating Poway one night and as I landed a pretty lengthy nollie back tail on one of the ledges, I hear some dude clapping and I looked up to see it was Willy. Fucking rad.
As a fellow pinoy, I'm stoked he reps the PI. As a military veteran, I was stoked to hear his dad was in the military, too.
Nothing but love for this guy.

^^those were hella durable if I remember.
Willy rules.
-
He didn't end up like a lot of military kids. There are way too many that just turn out pretty horrible because their father figure is gone so much.
-
Met Willy in San Diego last year after I had quit skating for 7 years. Dude was teaching a little kid how to skate at the park.
He was/is one of my favorite skaters ever growing up. I had the red Birdhouse t shirt with the three frogs on it- one of his graphics.
Very first legit deck was a Willy Santos Birdhouse with the dog graphic.
Told him that, he was stoked. Very nice guy.
-
i'm sure he's a good rider, but i've never seen him as anything original. just super bland doing all the hot tricks at the time. super consistent tho
-
I had the chance to hang out with Willy Santos several times while I was living in San Diego, definitely a crazy nice dude, and a great skater. He was one of my favorite skaters when The End first came out.
When I first started skating, my mom bought me a Skateboarder magazine I think it was, and there was a Birdhouse ad of Willy doing a tailslide on a guard rail or something like that. Wish I could find that ad again. Hung on my wall for years before I moved out of my parents house.

Fucking Eh! Santos=My first skate hero and those were the first signature models i got....The box maybe still at the folks place.

I'm a little bit younger and grew up in Florida and honestly never really heard of Willy growing up. My 9th grade math teacher was Filipino and surfed and skated a little bit and used to tell me that he knew Willy, that was about the only exposure to him that I had.
Since though, I moved out to SD and have been skating PQ park a lot. He's there quite often and has always been super down to earth and rad. This led me to researching and fan boying over his parts. Fully backing this dude !!!!

I had so many pairs of both his shoes when vans was on the pro series campaign. To me this was a good time in skateboarding.
