Baggy pants skater vs regular pants skater identity crisis
« on: February 21, 2024, 11:55:18 AM »
I can't decide whether to identify myself as wearing baggy pants or regular fit pants. Do you believe some people's physique/appearance is forever better presented through a single fit (baggy vs regular)? For those of you who have reached the end of your pants journey, how did you finally decide? What struggles have you endured? Are any of you both? If so how do your homies react to you having no consistent pant fit? I am not joking this is a serious topic I haven't been able to decide for months and it keeps me up at night. Like for example I'll see a pair of shoes i really like, but it won't work with baggy pants or vice versa. I didn't mention shorts or tight pants and dont wanna rewrite all of this so just pretend I did.

the struggle is real though. i like the middle ground, like 93 denim, and i try to stick to a similar fit all the time.

Wear whatever makes you feel good about your appearance and optimizes your performance when you skate. I found a pair of affordable carhart work pants that I liked and ended up ordering like 6 of the same style in various colors. I personally think you should dress to fit your body type as well. I’m not a skinny dude so if I wear tight fit clothes I look fuckin ridiculous. I know a lot of people will think this post is corny but I know where you’re coming from, I actually had clothes madness for a while and couldn’t figure out how to combine fashion and function to not look like an absolute try hard or someone who let their mom dress them for picture day. You’ll find your balance eventually. Just keep your receipts

Levi's 550, up two sizes in the waist, up one in the inseam. Perfect fit, every time.

you can't dress cool until you're good. I always have a hearty chuckle when the kid wearing the latest swag can't land shit.

I have different pants for different occasions. The pants I wear to work are typically the Levi's 541 Athletic Tapers sized up or a similar fit from another brand. My skate pants are usually the 550s one to two sizes up depending on the color or loose fit pants from various brands. I find that the relaxed straight fit sized up tends to fit most occasions for me. Not too loose, not too tight. The other factor when deciding which pants to wear is the fit of the shirt. Loose fitting shirts don't look kosher with slimmer pants just like slimmer shirts don't look right with baggier pants. This same logic applies to the shoes. Nothing makes me wince more than bulkier shoes with slimmer pants. But that is just me though.

This totally resonates with me i own four pairs of pants, 2 are dickies skateboarding jeans that are a bit baggier than the average pair of jeans but not by much and then a pair of big boy esque jeans made by my local shop and the brad cromer huf pants which are also really baggy. I mostly skate vans and they look kinda weird with the baggy pants but ive been skating the rowan 2s for a while now which look pretty good with the baggy pants but still i feel this weird obligation to pick one or the other. I want to stop wearing baggy pants a) im 6'3 so they look a little weird and b) i want to further disassociate myself from all the fa shirt wearing teenagers i see skating but i just cant let them go for some reason maybe because my collection of pants would shrink by 50%? I dont know? I also sometimes just feel that certain swagger when wearing them further making my decision harder. This is something i think about everyday when i get dressed in the morning though. Well figure it out one day

This. Except I go normal inseam or even down one if I can find it. 29” inseam is kinda hard to come by though. Also I’m short so a 30 is already kinda long on me. I don’t like to trip over my pants but I also don’t like the high waters look. I wear a belt too which helps keep them where I need them.  Also if some people find 550’s up 2 sizes too baggy, try the 505 instead. It’s a regular straight leg fit instead of loose. And fyi we have plenty of gear crisis, pants threads etc in the shoes and gear section of SLAP.

After a year of weight gain, my baggy jeans are now skinny jeans. I get the best of both worlds.

I have transcended pants madness and now I’m on skirt/dress madness. Tight denim looks best but isn’t too functional, flowy, soft longer skirts are functional but don’t look good on me. I’m just going to start dressing like nyjah.

These diverse modern times must be confusing for people who try to be „hip“ and follow the mainstream. Until now, there was only one trend to follow, now we live in a time where multiple trends exist side by side.

if you skate plaza ledges you need to wear baggy pants
if you skate handrails and stair gaps you need to wear skinny jeans
if you skate something else you need to wear pants in the middle

It's been a long and expensive journey to baggy pants enlightenment, but I think I've finally found the perfect fit.

It's the Polar 93 denim. Perfect amount of baggy and for once I don't have to get them tailored.
