the first pair of trucks i ever had were indys, they were fine, but then they started slipping. after trying just about every other company (kreper exempt), and constantly hearing the acclaim and greatness that is independent, i decided to give it another go. i like how they grind, liked how they turned after swapping out for bones bushings (orange stock broke, and no i don't tighten them that much), and after about six months, they started slipping again. in that time span i could count the number of times i've landed primo on one hand. now im back to venture, where i'll settle for the occasional broken king pin.
any positive feedback for your beloved trucks?
*edit - I'm now riding some stage 10 139s with medium bones, and they've removed all doubt that i originally had. no slipping after three months, and liking everything about them.
-
ive rode a few different brands but always went back to indys. after six months im ready to switch up a new set anyways. usually by then ive grinded straight through the axle. ive never had any serious problems with them that you dont get with any other truck.
-
They just skate the best in my opinion. They turn great, grind great, and are pretty damn durable. What else do you need?
And I've only axle slipped one pair that I had maybe about 4 years ago that were given to me slightly used anyways.
-
Well, I ride Thunders but I hear they come from the same factory with a similar design. My bushings never tear and I never break kingpins. They last me over a year. Nothing to complain about. What other reasons would you have besides them being good?
-
because truck companys are corny. raw 139s are all thats necessary
-
Because of how easy it was to get new trucks from them when mine broke.
they don't kid when they say guaranteed for life.
i was looking on the indy site for a guarantee return policy . . i didnt see anything. howd you send yours back?
-
only truck that i can grind to the axel pretty much everytime and it's been that way since the 80s for me. also, i find that other truck metal doesn't grind as fast. i had a pair of those trucks with the beer opener whole on them and they grinded so slow it sucked.
-
i love my indy reynolds trucks, had em for over a year now and they're still reliable, only thing is i put thunder bushings on em after the stock whites broke
-
i don't know.
they just feel right.
no need for an explanation.
-
indys just feel better than any other truck. i rode ventures for 6 years and when i got my first set of indys i knew i wasn't going back. i've had 2 sets of thunders, and the turn better than any truck i've every ridden, i just hate that the bushings take way too long to break in. plus, i've never broken a kingpin or bent an axle with indys.
-
i don't know.

no need for an explanation.
basically.
-
stick with indies I just recently bought some ace trucks and they turned better than indies to me but they were just so thin and weird and first of all they were bent when I got them then they bent more and more while skating them and they looked so odd on my board
-
I've ridden Indys, Kreepers, Krux, and Thunders and i'm sticking with indys
-best turning radius
-longest lasting
-if your only beef is the bushings... send them in and you get a free upgrade. something along the lines of that, but seriously... Independent most likely wants to help you out
-no silly painting gimmicks
-the weight, size, structure, everything adds to excellent board feel
the real question is why use anything else?
*and if you had problems landing primo... why exactly would you blame that on the trucks? "oh dude, i cant do kickflips because these wheels are oddly shaped"

damn, that new website blows. there used to be an FAQ at the bottom with the phone number to the warranty dept. best thing i found was this email address to NHS: [email protected].
thanks, ill look into that.

just the best. man i remember my first pair of them, which was not even two years ago. i can't believe i didn't try them earlier. its all i'm ever skating. the feel, as soon as you put 'em on, don't even need to tighten them. i can't even complain about the bushings.
raw 139s all day.
-
Never had them, but I'm really satisfied with my thunders.
If I couldn't get thunders for half the prize I would definitely try indy's.
-
since the 90's i rocked ventures then about 6 years ago i got tired of breaking them. didnt want to swith to indy because they had their gear in pacific sunwear at the time (shirts). plus they were heavy back in the day. but i went for it. now theyre lighter and ventures. and they grind and turn better.
-
Destructos suck.
I love em, destructo or indy...
what is it that you dont like about destructo's?
to me they feel pretty simular to the regular indy's...
any decent truck co but thunder, I just cant ride those
-
it's less of a choice....
-
I just like the way they turn and grind....I recently found a near mint pair of Stage 5's from the 90's and just updated the baseplates and kept the hangers with some bones bushings....they are perfect.
-
i'm not a staunch lifer just yet, i still wanna try some thunders, but i jut liked how they felt since the first day i got my first pair

because indy's are the shit
after awhile, the hanger on krux starts to bend and the axel slips
forces grind like shit
thunders turned regular
and ventures don't grind or turn.
think about it, they're up to 9 drafts on perfecting the truck, 10 if you count the forged indy's. the metal's good, the design is good, and the truck just looks good. that's all there needs to be said

cause they roll straight, grind good, and are skateable the same day you get them with minimal effort fucking with the bushings. i had a hate on for them like 5 years ago when i killed tight trucks cause i'd break kingpins every other day. went back to them like 2 or 3 years ago and have had like 6 pairs in a row without a single kingpin breaking.
-
indy's turn the best out of any truck and I like the stage 10 stock bushings
-
no fucking gimmicks
-
mark g said it best turning is the essence of skateboarding and indys are the best
-
should I buy the new stage 10's?
-
from the responses, there hasn't been much negativity towards indys. perhaps i just got a bad apple of a set, and im gonna give them another go. just picked up some stage 10s, and ill update if i have a better experience.
-
I've tried a bunch of trucks - started with mack trucks (terrible), then indys, then grind king (didn't like these), then destructo (REALLY BAD). Then I remember grabbing some ventures. I loved those. They were great, that was about 10 years ago. But for some reason, since then I've been riding indys. I don't really know why. Easy to get, reliable, grind good, I like that they are heavy too and last but not least, I can get them really loose.
I wanna try some ventures or thunders again, but I don't like taking risks with trucks. Since I'll use them for about 6 months.
-
I've broken a countless amount of Ventures. Indys just feel the best to turn with and they're reliable.
-
i dont think i have had an axle slip since 2001.
-
I had one pair of Indys and they kept getting axle slip. It was only one truck, so I guess I had a lemon. I've pretty much always skated Thunders, but I would like to try the Stage 10s just to see how I like them.
-
Skating without Independents doesn't feel like skateboarding.
-
they're heavy and make it feel all that much better when you're grinding or catching/landing a flip trick. They smell a little different too when you're smashing a fast grind on crete coping

I feel the same way

Lows or Highs?
-
FUCK
the lows
be a man and get the regular ones
that's what I was thinking thanks for the help :D
-
I havent tried anything else but Indys in over 3 years. If the shoe fits wear it.
Never had a problem with them, never had to switch bushings.
The trick is do not tighten the bushings for like a day or so they tighten right up.
-
The History behind the brand is untouchable. They turn amazing. The axles are centered. They have a perect weight ratio for their sizes. They make sizes for everything in skateboarding 101-215. They keep all the Lifers on the team, so loyalty. You don't see any other truck company have such a following, for a reason.
-
i bought a pair because people tell me their the best.
i like them the most, but the only other trucks i've had were tracker, tensors, and phantoms so thats not saying much......
-
Tensors are SUCH GARBAGE!!! Krux are shit too! What's that little hole for anyway? It's too small to open a beer with while drunk, so what's the fucking point?!
Indy's never let me down.
-
My first pair of trucks were destructos. I weighted fucking 95 lbs and bent the hangers! the most i could ollie was a three stair.
fuck everything else Indy's all the way
-
because i like them, fuck you for even questioning me.
-
i recently skated some krux's on a setup mostly cuz of sbn. it was kind of 'unique' having some pretty light trucks, and they turned, uh, 'differently'.
but then one day i decided to skate down to my truck ( in a parking lot) with a board setup with indys, and it felt so right.
i'm now selling my krux's, obviously...
-
ive honestly ridden a countless number of trucks from all companys, and none of them are like indy, the basic shape, the way they grind turn and everything, hardly ever get slip axel, just change those stocks bushings with some bones and you got the best trucks.
i always end up riding them until i cant take my kindpin bolt off because its so worn and that takes a long time and there are never any other problems...

I gotta add something to this...
along with all the good functionality, I ride them cause they have a cool logo. I mean look at this, can't really be fucked with:

I never had indy's, mostly thunders. but why are they much better with bones bushings? Is it the way they turn with bones bushings or something? I always got thunders cheaper so that's why I never bought indy's. My next trucks will be indy's I guess.

i got some stage 10 indy 139s and i wanted to keep the original bushings on. the first day i didnt want to tighten them at all because i didnt want to break the bushings, but they were way too loose for my comfort. im sure there are some purists here that would say just ride them like that and they'll eventually harden and be fine, but I had to tighten them. Low and behold, after tightening them very little (still looser than i like them), the bushings started to crack and peel. Although that may not affect the performance, imo that's just one extra thing that doesnt need to be on my mind when skating.
i switched to some medium (yellow) bones bushings, and to put it simply, they turn exactly how I would want stock indy bushings to turn, and right off the bat.
recently i noticed a photo of alex olson (boardslide in the skateboarder mag with chris pfanner on the cover) and rick howard (lakai rick commercial) with bones bushings on. i found it interesting that they are both on the indy team and feel the need to swap to non indy bushings. take that for what it's worth.

after exclusively skating regular 139s, i set up a board with indy lows and i like them.

Allright.
My thunders are still quite good. I have them for 8 months now. But I'd like to get some indy's and if they sell bones bushings I might buy them as well just to try out.
Am I coolz 2 now?
-
My last two sets of Indys axle slipped.
I've been skating Indys since forever and the only other time I've ever axle slipped a pair of Indys was maybe 4 or 5 years back on a set that was given to me already used anyways, so I was surprised when the set I was skating a couple months back slipped. I thought "eh, probably just a bad set", so I bought another set and wouldnt you know it they slipped too. I just got my replacement set a couple days ago. Maybe it was just two bad sets in a row? A coincidence purhaps? I really hope my replacement set does not slip.
-
One thing.
I already have some trouble getting on high obstacles. Aren't indy 139's heavier than thunder 147's?
-
i want to like indys, but the last 2 pairs ive had have bent, never thought it would happen but it did
i will always stay true to thunders, best truck imo

haha the weight of the board is just in your head man. you wouldn't feel a difference if you tried thunders compared to indys

Fuck off. Have you skated thunders after skating indys for a long time? I have, and you feel the difference
-
maybe turningwise but not in weight. plus i am watching cops right now so your argument is invalid
-
Working at a shop and having weighed every truck out there on our postage scale, I'd say thunder skylights would be the lightest.
Problem with the forged base plates is that they're thinner and therefor slightly lower.
I've always ridden indys, tried just about everything out there though.
I wanted to like ace, but it just didnt feel right.
If I skated anything else it would be thunder.

that's exactly how i felt. i decided id give it one last go; turns out my third pair has stood up to the high regard that so many people have for them.
-
this is off topic but some dude told me krux is made in the same factory as indy is this true? it doesnt matter but...
and i ride indys basically because what everyones already said they turn bangin, i never realy paid attention to the weight and they just feel like they should be on ur board.
-
love indys and bones bushings had my busings in three sets of trucks now so i never have that break in period just straight to shredding when i set a new pair up. i put my old indys on a cruiser and swapped the new indy bushing sin there and they feel good on the cruiser. indy must have changed up the formula and i like it

So about the replacement indys set I was talking about earlier on in this thread, I just axled slipped them today. Only the back truck though. This makes it the third set of indys in a row that I have axle slipped. I have no idea what's going on, but I've never had this big of a problem with Indys up until just recently. I don't remember the axle slip problems with the truck being this bad. Maybe I somehow just got three bad sets in a row? Hmmm... Who knows. The slip isn't even that bad really; The trucks are still skateable, it just gets really annoying having to smack my axles back into place after every session or two.
-
there must be something wrong man. i have had indys nonstop the last few years and havn't axle slipped since like - 3 years ago. Do you leave your board outside at night? live in a very cold place? something your doing is fuckin your trucks. are you really fat and only skate freestyle/primos?
-
only 16 year olds care about axle slip

Hah, nah, I'd say I'm the right weight for my age/height, and no I'm not into that freestyle/primo stuff, don't leave my board outside either. I always bring it back into the house. I wouldn't say that I accidentally let the board land primo a lot, but it does happen from time to time. I'm as confused as you are. I've skated indys pretty much since I started skating, and this just started happening recently. Like I said, maybe just three bad sets in a row?

you must have been really unlucky in that case. did you buy the three sets from the same shop? maybe its the whole shipment that is fucked?
-
Yeah, that might be it for all I know. The first set was from a different shop, and I had them for awhile before there was even a sign of a slip, but the last couple of sets have been from the same shop, and they started slipping in a month or sooner.

I've ridden krux, Indies, venture, and now I'm riding my first pair of thunders. I rode indy for a good year, and ventures for about two years, and I wish I'd been skating thunder the whole time. These things are fucking nice. Probably wrong thread to post this in but I just wanted to get that out there.
