word up, i'd suggeset some samples too, but if i'm tryin to enter then i guess i'm not allowed too?? i'll make a whole hearted promise that they would all be tracks i have never flipped before............but as far as havin a song in 6, just cut that shit into like 1 and 2 beat chunks and play it so it so the beats fits into a four measure, a simple way to think about it is like if you have 1 2 3 4 5 6, and the snare is on the 4, you could cut it into two pieces that were 1 2 and 4 5 and play them so that tempo is changed and it would be like each of the beats was an 8th note, and you also have the longer stretch of 3 notes without a snare in it to place in where ever, so get super creative, i would just start cuttin a part into different pieces and playin with them over a basic 8th note hi hat pattern with the snare's on 2 and 4, you know somethin basic so you can feel out how you want to arrange your chops, bein able to pitch it on a turntable would be helpful though to achieve the desired BPM

Holy shit! Thanks for hooking it up! Page two is definitely looking up!

I was begining to get worried about the beat battle so I spent
the past 30 minutes brainstorming and searching for samples

The best thing I came up with was an Inception beat battle
basically you could use anything from the entire soundtrack.
The sample at the beginning of this song practically makes itself,
I mean, it isn't too hard to imagine a beat flowing with it.

Like I was trying to say, I came up with this idea before smokecrack's post above.
It looks like we've got more than enough samples to go around
so I think all we have left to do is just narrow it down to the one sample, (or samples) we want to use

The Beach Boys - Do You Like Worms

I'm voting for this one right here. The sample isn't apparent at first but if you listen though it
you'll find a couple of gems.

I'm still keeping the Inception idea on the back burner too if anyone's into that idea.

niiice, that death wish soundtrack is full of amazing sounds, crazy wide open percussion sounds that i've been waitin to find, grabbed that for a dollar from some thrift spot, and i know don ellis and lalo always comes correct with the 70s jazz sound with more of a big band backing.........i got dial up so i'm gonna have to check them later when i'm out to give my pick on sample(s), but i bet any of them will make due, i'm open to whatever you guys decide.....

and as for suggestions, if we are gonna do a soundtrack flip, even if only considering for future battles, i would suggest this one by quincy jones

it's located here where everyone could download it
http://www.blaxploitationpride.org/2008/03/quincy-jones-lost-man-1970.html?zx=19a93603c1b7f4b1
and is full of some dope shit, wierder more abstract tracks to jazz to straight grooves, good sounds all around, i like the idea of having an album to choose from, and soundtracks are always full of ill instrumental grooves of all different moods......i guess this one can wait for a future battle though, maybe we can keep this thread alive and people who are feeling motivated enough to try and keep things happening can do just that

i still don't know what were doing, even after reading all these posts. we need a mutual decision on a song to sample, unless there will be several song to choose form.
i think the self-clap should be more socially acceptable

Open Beauty is a great track to mess with. You can flip so many parts of that song it's insane. My personal favorite is the very beginning and the last 1:30 with no sounds except the echoed trumpet. The possibilities are endless. Mixing Frog One Is In That Room with those trumpet parts sounds amazing. To my knowledge nobody has used that track for anything or I would probably know about it so this will truely be a Slap original. I've always wanted an instrumental made from that track so I'm extra psyched to put some stuff down over the winning beat. Good luck!

I think I can crank out a solid loser in this (and have fun making it). Is Open Beauty gonna be the sauce?

If I blow everything's levels all the way up and play it at 300bpm may I call it Gabber? Fun looking contest for sure... and of course, glad to have you back '92! One of the other modmins beat me in Pal'ing you back- I was probably hung over, sorry for my lag man! Fucking A though, the forums are missing something when you aren't around.

n0ob question: we can basically make anything as long as we include sample cuts from the piece, right? Is it a full song or just a loop? I'm asking because some of the old entries are gone.

Props on all this, Able... I seriously missed the first, really stoked on this!

daaamn, open beauty is whats up, i am a total sucker for that rhodes sound, and this one is super unique sounding, i'm down with that for sure........i had an idea, what if we make open beauty the official song, gotta use that no matter what, but one of the other songs posted can be used as well if you want, you can only use one, and you should probably tell which one, but that way you can spice it up a bit if your tryin to get busy.............or wait, am i allowed to use any thing i want as long as i use the sample?? like vocal samples and cuts and maybe some horns from somewhere else or somethin like that, are there any restrictions on what i can add??

Jack, I don't anyone will mind if you use a few samples to get busy. Using Open Beauty for the main backbone will definitely make for a good starting point. Using some of the Lalo Schifrin stuff to Don Ellis would be amazing. Cheep had a good idea with Headhunters but I feel that has been used quite a bit. Besides the classic Girl video I have heard that sampled a shit ton in regular hip-hop stuff, almost as much as Bob James-Nautilus. Jerry Fielding is also a good artist to look up. He did alot of good soundtrack work as well. I all for having vocal samples too. Think about some sick Billie Holiday sample or something like to throw into the mix. Etta James even. Which ever way people want to approach this it's gonna turn out dope. I'm looking forward to it.

Absolutely! Use any part of the sample in your song. I think the way the rules normally work in Beat Battles
is you have to use some part of the "chosen sample" to be your main melody.

Big thanks to 92! It's great to have you back!
It looks like Don Ellis - Open Beauty is the sample this time around

I'm converting the youtube link to an mp3 file via Zamzar.com right now.

If anyone has any problems getting the sample downloaded hollar hollar.
If nothing else, I can just e-mail it to you

excellent, i'm not lookin to get crazy, flippin the don ellis first and foremost, but i like to find other sounds to compliment the samples, whatever that may be......and as far as nautilis goes, its definitely been used to death, but i think the drums towards the end right after the daytona 500 loop are still usable, have they been notably used?? as long as your willin to cut em out from around the synth, they hit hard and are wide open, that riding crash would be on some entroducing shit too, just gotta cut it up and piece it back together
