I know many are in favor of VAR, but it can fuck off as far as I'm concerned.  Lots of instances where the term "clear and obvious" isn't clear and obvious to some.  Pique had a 2 footed challenge which should have seen red and they don't even look at it.  In the Portugal-Iran game I didn't think Cedric should have been called a handball called against him.  Doesn't look like he even knew where the ball was and his hands weren't in an unnatural position.  There is still a lot of subjectivity even with VAR.  I'm one who is fine with blown calls.  I like the controversy.  There wouldn't have been a "Hand of God" moment if VAR was around when Maradona played.
[close]

well I think that bad referee is bad no matter what help he gets. this VAR thing works great when ref is someone who is good at his job.
controversy is cool but imagine that your team loses a title because someone scored using his hand.

Well Nigeria could have gotten a pen but it was 50-50, especially as they had advantage with the shot on goal. Mostly I think the var gets it right (though I think neymar wasnt carded for his dive?). Controversy seems to stem more from moments where var wasnt used but should have been, so that only argues in its favor. Sometimes the footage is inconclusive and there will always be subjective things like that Rojo handball, so there will always be controversy. Unlike hands of god which are clear mistakes, not controversies.

I just saw right after he gave the Nigerian fans that classy double salute he was taken to the hospital. Apparently he was so worked up they were concerned about him. I think that is code for he was fucked up.

Apparently the Iranian fans were drumming all night out front of the hotel the Portuguese players were staying at in an attempt to mess with their sleep.

So fucking lame.

I just want Mexico to get to the semi finals, that be enough to have me stoked. If they make it anything past that it be insane. I think Mexico as a whole probably couldn't handle them winning the world cup, people would spontaneously combust.

During the WC qualifications Peru went so far as to have fighter jets fly over the NZ team's hotel to keep them from sleeping...........Football just drives people nuts. The collective emotion is overwhelming, that's the incredible thing about it.

->MonkeyMcPott: I wish everyone could experience something like what happened in France in 98. I was still living in Paris at the time, host city....I still get teary-eyed every time I see footage, and I'm not even a huge football fan!!

anyways now I just hope France get past Argentina, it seems like a 50-50 call more or less at this point. The second Argentina goal vs Nigeria was awesome!

Yep I would tip France over Argentina.

All of Portugal's games have been crazy so far so can't wait to watch them play Uraguay. Wonder what Suarez the mad vampire will have in store.

Suarez hasn’t bit anyone yet so I’m sure he’s been saving his appetite for knockout rounds.

Still don't understand why Brandt does not start but Özil does.

Hmmm, VAR strikes again? Talking about Sweden against Mexico.

Damn, Germany... Time to wake up now, or else it's over.

HUEHEUHEUHEUHEUEHUEHEUHEUH

SWEEPER KEEPER ladies and gentleman. Just so no one can say they were forked by the VAR. Lowe will eat his boogers at home. SADLY the rematch will be kept for later. The Olympics never count, of course.

Supporting the German team as usual. Let's see how they will do without Sane who got sent home.

Spain seems a lil bit disorientated.
[close]

I am rooting for the German team, but I don't think they will be able to win it again. They should have brought in a new coach. Winning the World Cup requires such a great effort and such determination. I don't think Jogi Löw will be able to create that with this team given the fact that he already won the cup 4 years ago. Spain kept their coach after winning the World Cup and the Euro Cup back to back and then got eliminated early. I am afraid the same will happen to the German team.

Just as I predicted. I hope Löw and some of the older players retire now!

Now if you'll excuse me I'll go back to freaking out about the lopsided Brazilian team. About the third-choice right wing back, a limping and moody Neymar, the injured midfielders, and the lack of Douglas Costa. This team is horrible on paper.

Thank you South Korea!!

I was stressing out! Glad Mexico made it through, but we need to shape up for the upcoming matches because we were inches away from overall defeat. Props to Sweden, they came out swinging. Damn, sorry to the Germany fans. That had to hurt.

Thanks. 2002 still hurts. Especially because I had to catch a flight back home to Russia, and left the house at 60 minutes, or so.

This will leave deep wounds. Still in chock. Then again, Germany forgot they were payed to play football, not suck cock. Terrible effort.

Congrats to all swedes, put up a great fight... Unlike Germany.
