First time we crossed there he gave me a hard time and tried to kick me out I offered to paint it for him and he laughed me off but next day I was out there with my bucket and since then we've had a nice mutual respect.

Chico! Such a trip opening this thread and seeing this, i remember when the curbs werent painted. The two little kickers, the flat gap over the island, the super smooth flat area up top, the bank by the street, and the health center are all within like 100 yards and alot of fun. That little metal box at the top of the pic is nose slidable. I learned ALOT of my shit in this tiny little area a long time ago so sorry for the nostalgia post slappers. I promise there’s waaaaaaaaaaay better curbs/spots in Chico if you actually look and push around town, but nobody has the balls or motivation to leave the fucking toxic cool guy skatepark. Genuinely makes me sad because for how small and skate stopped it is, theres some great shit to skate around town. More for me i guess :)

I think people are sick of seeing mine here, but I poured a new one the other day using the same form with only one bag (instead of filling it with 80 lb bag and a half). It looks to be 4 - 4 1/2" high compared to 6" with it completely filled. I'll measure when it's time to remove it.im not sick of seeing them. That 4” high sounds like a great height.
Lesson is make your curb forms for the biggest curb you want and adjust volume of cement instead of making different sized forms for each height.

I found these loose parking blocks from various areas around town and set them up on this mini bank. Theyre both really small blox. The more pale yellow one is way smoother and the bright one kinda sucks so usually ill just do some quick slaps on the pale one. Its a nice challenge cuz you gotta do this tight quick carve into it from the sidewalk.

My new favorite place in the world. Some people have already been putting in work to wax/lacquer a lot of these. Further down on the right there’s a double sided curb where they dug out some grass, and it ends in with a fun curved curb.
living in a country with almost no grindable curbs (hard to explain). i was really happy to figure this out. its a bus stop near my house. downside is that its on a semi bussy road, ribbed on top and higher that normal curbs. but they have a little transition at the bottom to make up for the hight.Looks nice. Guessing it sounds good on grinds as well. Like the grip job as well.
besides bus stops i have not been able to find any grindable curbs in my hometown. theres a fiew good ones in a nearby city but i dont have the time and money to visit there too often.
learning slappys on here made other curbs quite easy.

You're Dutch? We have these as well and Ive always wondered how good they grind but I've yet to find one that's abandoned enough to properly skate it. If you are indeed Dutch, I could recommend looking around in parking lots. My daily curb spot isn't the smoothest but there's nothing a rub brick and a shit ton of wax can't fix.

Dusty spot but I've been waxing and grinding this curb for a long time now. It's in a parking lot that's empty at about 8 pm and well lit through the evening so it's perfect for a late slappy sesh.
yeah i've been thinking of making a parking block. theres this emply patch of asphalt in the park behind my house that used to be a football cage. its pretty rough but it wont bother anyone there. and might be able to make more if i got the mold right and drop one at the skatepark.
i know someone that made 2 curbs a while ago, those work great. told him about the bus stops and he found a really nice abandoned one in the city he's from. it's one of those sectioned off ones near a station so there's no cars driving there at all.

Newly lacquered and bondo'd but doesn't look like a brick was taken to it, but it grinds fast at a hard angle (think of doing a shit slappy where your wheels are still on the ground, that's the angle you have to take) just not on top

The old Activision office area on Ocean Park? DMV closes at 5pm, lot is usually empty at 5:30 (enough to skate; I tend to hit it around 5:45/6:00 you never know if you'll get a grumpier DMV employee than usual + plus cars driving around).
On weekends, especially early you get a few people teaching others how to drive (why they choose to do it here...DMV or not, I have no idea as they don't ever use the layout the way the actual DMV instructors do).

All the same spot. Sucks the double sided isn't very good (yet) and that the sidewalks are fucking ROUGH as fuck, 97a spits makes them almost skateable so no manuals :\ only smooth part is where the handicapped ramps are (yellow bumps as well).Spot envy.

Two options. Get into a normal slappy and lean back or treat or like a 5-0 on transition which is how I do them but arguably slightly cheating. Slightly loft front wheels up before they hit the curb then get super light as your back wheels hit so they pop up into the grind. Like an exaggerated version of going into 5-0 on sticky out coping. ( if that makes sense?!)

I just did 2 cans of clear enamel spray and alot of wax on this curb right down the road from my house and skated it for the first time today and definitely notice the difference between a rub bricked curb and non rub bricked like i did this one. It was super crusty at first and the more grinds i did and wax i added while skating it, it eventually started going pretty nicely and it wasn't the smoothest cement to begin with. Wish i would of done the rub brick, but the extra crust makes it that much more awesome while grinding through it. Got sketched out trying to rub brick it since its on the navy base but hyped i finally have one right by my house to skate whenever now. I think with enough clear enamel spray and wax you can get a curb going if you skate it alot, but the rub brick definitely makes it alot smoother of a grind. First 3 clips are on the new curb i fixed up and other random curbs/clips in the mix.

That curb is so fun. I love to hit that thing up and then get a tasty burrito at el burrito jr.
Had that happen with one of my spots. It’s just shitty concrete and unfortunately there’s not to much you can do once it hits the aggregate. You can paint it(I’d use rustoleum in the quart can and a roller not spray paint and do a few good coats, wax the hell out of it and go faster, or you could try mixing up some patching concrete and building it up again(haven’t done that so can’t say if it’d work or not). The repaint does work for a time but you’ll need to do it once it gets worn again.

Screencap from a two piece I filmed earlier on my phone. This is where I learned how to slappy, the curb is the perfect height for practicing them. Curbs were recently repainted, but the ground is awful. There's so many nice curbs in San Jose I'll try and do my rounds and snap pics for this thread

Yeah you’re not wrong. The planter is dug out on the red side so it can be bordslid/combo’d but it is not, technically, a double sided curb. Thanks for keeping everyone honest

Amazing. I wish I was a handy man and not some useless desk jockey.Believe me there was trial and error. This is the first one I’ve made start to finish on my own but I had help on the last one from my neighbor who is a general contractor. I too would be considered a desk jockey.

Yes but I am bad at building stuff. I once bought wood and a saw as I wanted to build a cabin for my wife‘s guinea pigs but it became a shaky death trap with nails protruding and the guinea pigs refused to set foot in it. I also wanted to mount a mirror in my bedroom but when I was done I realized it hangs so low I can‘t see my face in it, only the lower body parts. I could go on.

It’s really only fun to skate into, you can’t really tell from the pics but it’s really hard to get enough speed skating out of the bank because there’s no run up to the opposite bank

Is the curb your talking about over off legion by Esken hall? Last time I went to go skate that they’d tore the asphalt out(summer before Covid). Yeah, toss a picture up. I basically grew up in Chico(85-2000)so I had a ton of spots but times have changed some.

Here's my new go to curb. It is a rare specimen of a lacquered curb in Switzerland, plus it's only a few minutes from where I live AND it has a lamp directly above it. I can only skate it on Sundays but I am not going to complain. The cracks look gnarly but I rarely hang up on those...Nice find. Looks like the unpainted section is in pretty good shape too.

Had to go renew my tags at the dmv and had no idea they had a perfectly new paved parking lot with this slappy curb. Its a little chunky bit its freshly painted so it grinds through the chunks easily. Very low curb and slightly slanted which makes for a fun time. There's also a few other things to skate at the same spot. Made this little edit from my first sunday sesh there yesterday. Its my new go to weekend skate spot for some mellow slappys.Looks good! Looks like all the curbs here in the Midwest. I can’t think of a single curb in my area that isn’t rounded like that. Grinds definitely don’t lock in but nose and tailslides are still butter. I’m still envious of having a spot right in front of the house. If my wife ever talks me into moving a nice curb out front is a must.

anyone else live in midwest hell where all new construction of curbs are made with that brushed texture and the concrete itself is 'chalky' and feels super soft? theres so much new construction with would-be sick spots but i need a god damn respirator, 3 rub bricks and a gallon of coating to make these things work /rantYou might be better off rolling your own curbs. Yep these are the ones - in Logan Square right under the blue line. I haven't skated them yet but have been itching to learn feebles so I need to get over there.

Attach your pieces to the bottom and sides of the trap. Tape the inside seems to prevent seeping. Now you have a mold
this is the easiest less technical way of building one but it will be great to skate. I'll go into it further if you're interested

Orange undercoat and black oil base on top as well as a coat of lacquer. Looks a little rough on the side but holding up well and has been skated weekly for 4-5 months now.

i have a spot that someone waxed but never bricked or lacquered. just caked on wax. it grinds but it would be way better if prepped properly. i think i am going to just use a rock to get the old wax off.
@Gene_Harrogate that looks like a perfectly angled curb. The ground looks a little rough, not sure if it's just the pics though... I'm wondering if it would be possible to fix crusty asphalt by mixing straight portland cement and water and then just wiping it into the asphalt with a sponge. Anyone ever tried that? It would definitely discolor the concrete and be very obvious but might work to fix the crust a little

@rawbertson were those chunks in the curb put there intentionally by someone trying to stop you from skating?This guy got all mad at me cause i blocked him and he smashed the spot... I unblocked him and hopefully he doesnt do it again...
if i were going to fix chunks like that i'd use Spec Mix mortar, the absence of rocks and addition of lime in the mortar would make it easier to shape and get into the smaller areas... similar price to rapid set concrete.

Yep type S mortar is the one you want, that's the same thing. If you do repairs with it make sure to wet the existing part of concrete before you before you put the mortar in the holes. It will help the mortar stick better and not go off so quickly.

Also, how is that shirt? I fucking loved Ipath and I see those are for sale in my country at a somewhat reasonable price ($38 CAD). I don't know what skate brand shit is worth buying these days but I'm assuming or at least hoping companies specializing in clothing aren't printing on worthless scratchy Gildan blanks. The only skate brand clothing item I currently own, I bought on a whim like this and I got burned hard lol.
I moved into a new, bigger city this month and I've been finding all kinds of spots. Last night I discovered a massive underground car park that's filled with yellow painted curbs and ledges. I never had the pleasure of skating one before but damn you really don't need wax when there's a thick coating of paint. Just stumbled upon it, tried some slappy 50s and ollied into them and both worked so good. The spot didn't seem like a bust, but I only skated there for about 30 minutes as I was already on my way home. I'll have to check it out again tonight as it seems like it's too good to be true. I'll make sure to snap some pics when I hit it again.

I've got a little baby curb like this, right next to the water. It's completely unchallenging to skate and too low for a lot of tricks, but it's a ton of fun to dick around on and you can enjoy a beautiful sunset while you sHrEd.
technically it's a curb just not sunk into the floor lol. Randomly stumbled across it the other day, think some BMXers built it years ago. Didnt slide for shit even with copious amounts of wax, which then meant coming back a day or two later and scraping as much of the wax off as possible, hitting it with a rub brick for 30 minutes, then 2 coats clear, 2 paint and 2 clear again. slides like a dream.

It's super fun to go over the gaps on the left and pretend you're Vov grinding over a vert channel, though I still don't have the balls to try a fakie nosegrind. The curb on the right is a tad high for slappies but perfect for learning new ledge tricks, and it works well as a low manny pad too.
I've got high hopes to make this my street spot for the Winter.

Hit it with the rub brick and laqcuer last weekend and just waxed it up for a quick sesh. The grind is so buttery, it's insane. Slappys feel almost too easy on it, but it's gonna be a fun one to learn some new grinds and combo's on.

Yeah, the first try's took some adjusting but the key is to just put less effort into them. On the other hand, it's real easy to get into a feeble on a curb like this, so I might finally get those on lock.

This magnificent curb / manny pad is right behind my apartment. It was there when I started skating but then I only used it as manny pad because I could not slappy yet. Also, often cars were parked right behind it. Then the street was renovated and they dismantled the whole thing to my dismay. But as a phoenix from the ashes, once the street was finished, after many moons, they rebuilt it and even put that yellow signage on the blacktop behind so no more parking there. Good things come to those who wait.

Finally found a perfect spot since I've moved towns. It's well lit, in an area with almost no traffic and has nice scenery. Still have to break the curbs in, but it's getting there.
