I really doubt it's anywhere near even half of that. For comparison swimming burns only 544 calories in an hour. Still, exercise is exercise.

700 sounds incredible for skating...but that might be because skating for me is very fat and social. Does your monitor show you what your avarage heart rate is when skating?

I think HRM:s often tend to be a little generous when estimating calories burned...
My Polar says I burn about 1000 calories after a hour of cycling nearly as hard as I can, with the avarage heart rate being at 160, although I tend to think even that might be slightly too many calories.

Last year I was riding around for the firs time in some new Levi's I got for cheap that ended up being too tight for me, like a size 30 or whatever. I'm pretty skinny so I shrugged it off and rode to a certain spot, all the while riding around downtown running errands and the like. All in all, it took about four hours of non-stop riding to do everything, and by the time I made it to the last spot it was impossible for my jeans to stay up. I had to run across the street to the neighboring mall to by a belt.

Ever since I've wondered how many calories burned or how many pounds I lost that day.

yup, no mater how much calories i burn skating, ill come home, get  baked and eat them back, probably adding some extra calories haha.
