Skate video Faux pa's (spelled right?)
« on: September 14, 2007, 08:15:20 AM »
My biggest one is when someone films a line then after the last trick they start pushing again and its obvious that they tried another trick and didn't make it, sometimes you'll even see them start to set up for the next trick... always bums me out.  Lets hear yours...

Maybe not a faux pas, just annoying: shoving a camera (with a fish eye, of course) into a persons face. Even worse: the other person shoving their face into the camera, kissing the lens, licking it, etc.

Do you call that faux pas or errors?

How many will be in:
Inhabitants? (none?)
Fully Flared? (one?)
Nike? (a couple?)
the consolidated bideo? (doesn't matter, Karma will have a part: but a lot?)

i don't like when it's "skater A"s part, then they have a little friend section within that part of "skater B", but skater A and skater B look so similar that you can't tell when it has switched back to being skater A footage.

personally I don’t like when a dude does a one-off trick at spot X, then there’s another clip or two, and then he has another one-off trick at spot X. also kind of don’t like when they put in obvious warm-up tricks, like somebody boardsliding a handrail before they backside lipslide it.

this has ALWAYS bugged me

the worst is in the mystery video, they cut a clip in the middle of a trick.

I hate it when the last trick of a part and especially when the last trick of the entire video, is given away by a magazine or trailer for the video. (Emanuel Guzman - Let's Do This, Chris Cole - New Blood)

I also hate poorly edited songs in vid parts. (Jeremy Wray - Elementality, Jon Allie - New Blood)

Too much slow mo also kills a part for me. I want to see what the trick looked like in real time (Johnny Layton's ender in STJ, Jerry's switch ollie in BOS)

i've kind of come to hate ramped slo-mo. it was interesting seven years ago, but some people don't know when to quit. look at kenny anderson's trick in the listen vid, his b/s lipslide, it goes like fast-slow-fast-slow and when it's done you have no idea what the trick actually looked like

i hate

when the editor relies on the same little tricks to match the music/ do transitions (ie few and far between with the super 8 cityscape shots)

seeing the same spots in every video - that fucking blue rail in cali, beverly hills high - it's even worse when it's Spain or something - you flew around the fucking world to skate the same shit as everyone else? suck my bitch!

segues that put the video's momentum at a dead stop - ie any baker video

obvious music choice - used to be modest mouse then wolf parade - nothing wrong with those bands, but spice it up

Filming too close and also when the filmer puts their stupid little hand in front of the lens after a take.  I also can't stand footage of where they're taking shots for a magazine or whatever the same time and the spot is blown up and over crowded with photographers.

Knucks
Modeling clips that are longer than any of their lines
Grainy footage of birds
Rob G.'s close up of him and his nose ring (I like his skating though)
Cellulite
The Money Shot from a bad angle

yeah me neither. and like home skillet said, i cant fuckin stand when filmers put their hands over the lens after a banger, especially if its in slo mo. and also when after the dude lands his tricks the filmer quickly moves the camera down and zooms in on the ground. looks decent sometimes depending how you do it but not every other trick

the new element video is full of that shit.  for most people it was the soundtrack, but that made the video almost unwatchable for me
