The first 8" board I ever bought was a Santa Cruz powerply, so they will always hold a special place in my heart for that alone. The weird thing about it was that because of the kevlar top ply layer, after a couple weeks of skating it, my board looked like a sweater that was unraveling... It had come undone. That minor problem aside, that board was fucking life changing for me. Being a taller dude, I don't necessarily skate 'big' boards, I skate boards that are more or less proportional. I've filmed some tricks on 81's and I look like Rob Welsh, skating a Tech Deck or something.... But back to my point, getting that eight inch Santa Cruz in '04 actually sucked because once I skated that board till it was done, it was insanely hard to find 8's afterward at the time, like, 2004 or so. I would almost never be able to get an 8" board from a brand I liked, simply because I couldn't go into a shop and ask if they had any 8" AWS boards or whatever, I'd have to just ask about 8's in general, and more often than not I'd end up with a 7.8 Element or something. I remember buying Jon Allie's pro model, the one that looked like an Evil Dead poster (not the biggest fan of the series, to be quite honest), because a "skate shop" owner told me it was an 8" (to this day, standing on a board only helps me feel out a shape (concave, wheelbase, etc), but not actually width, for some reason. I've made the mistake of standing on eight inch boards and thinking "Yeah ok this seems right" then measuring it out and I'm way the fuck off.
Also, Sid Melvin.
But honestly, what happened to Damian Bravo?
TLDR I need to stop posting right when my add medication kicks in.
