this game will be sick no doubt about it, gun and call of juarez were both generic first person shooters non-open world that offered virtually nothing new with the exception of speed draw or quick draw rapid fire crap, which they used in both games

this game has so much going on, the open world for one, the multiple online game modes, the amount of detail and work that has gone into the landscapes, this game will consume me

im just glad I have a week of skate 3 play time before it collects dust on the shelf for this game

edit: wait i think gun was open world

From IGN:

9.5   Presentation - A powerful story and remarkable characters. Tons of depth, but it doesn't quite have the perfect polish that most Rockstar games exhibit.
9.5   Graphics - A few visual hiccups are the only downside to this incredible looking game. Fantastic art direction.
10   Sound - Superb voice acting and a wonderful soundtrack.
9.5   Gameplay - Great variety, great combat, and a great multiplayer mode.
10   Lasting Appeal - Online or off, there are more than enough excellent reasons to keep coming back.

OVERALL - 9.7 Incredible

I got it. The poker alone is pretty go damn addicting. I went and played like an hour on it a lone. Went all in a couple of times and won. Beat out 2 of the 3 players but that one black guy kept along right with me the whole time. I'd come up some pots and he would. By the end of it, I just went all in on some 8 and 9 suited and dude took me out with a ace high. Weak.

I haven't even played online but on story mode, I am about 23% done after 6 hours or so playing. Seems way easier then the GTA series, which is a good thing since it is really rare that people even beat GTA. I feel like i have a sporting good chance and completing this before moving online. Graphics are sub par but Rockstar never puts out immaculate games anyways. Free roam level is good but it's starting to seem a lot smaller then I predicted from seeing on youtube, but I am assuming that has to do with no crazy cities like in GTA. I think the gem is voice over acting. Probably one of the best out there cause you really feel like you are in a western when they start talking.

Good game though but I would have gave it a low 9's rather then what IGN gave it. I fucking got Skate 3 and now that shit is going to collect dust just like that game did to Street Fighter 4.

I am not. Compare this game to Uncharted 2 or even Metal Gear. I am not saying the graphics suck but it's definitely not a 9.5 like what IGN gives it. I ams sure the technical aspects of having a free roam world makes it hard to animate. The horses and the way characters fall and tumble on the ground is cool though.

Maybe it's not the best looking game of all time, but calling it sub-par is grossly inaccurate. It looks absolutely amazing for the sheer scope of the game, I can't imagine being unimpressed by the landscape, the dynamic weather and all the lighting shifts. 9.5 seems just right.

I like this game more than GTA because its less cluttered than the massive condensed cities in the GTA series. I also like the "honour" system they have where you get rewarded for not killing and raping everyone in sight, its still an option, but if you dont you have access to more challenges and discounts in stores

The two games are very similar, setting waypoints, blips on the radar are the same

This game is really really good though, for sure a nice change of pace from GOW

I haven't played the newest GTA but it definitely plays better. It feels like Uncharted, Max Payne and GTA rolled into one. What I also like about it is that it is fairly easy at the moment. GTA games are always notorious for be so damn long and hard. Red Dead Redemption feels like you can almost beat the game. I have played for about 2 days and I am 37% done according to my stats. Story line is good so far and just the overall western feel is a nice fresh look from the old GTA series.

It is worth the buy for sure.....and I haven't even played online yet.

The gameplay is way better than GTA, especially the aiming. Remember the frustrating aim-lock in GTA?  Well its been fixed here and you can now aim your shots better & switch targets seamlessly.
The game is so much fun bc all the missions are different. There is so much variety, you never have that feeling of "repetitiveness".
I personally prefer this game bc its a lot more serious than GTA (which I hated bc of the annoying radio and dumb-ish comedy).

Any of you guys been having the network connection problem when you try to play online? I haven't been able to stay on for more than 15 minutes or so, but it seems like a widespread problem so a fix should be coming hopefully.

Game is incredible though. I love that when you're doing missions it doesn't fall into the GTA trap where they give you a simple enough mission, and then just when you finish you have 5 star wanted level and have to escape. They just did such good service to the Western genre, everything is on point. Plus like Fongstarr said the voice acting is insanely good, better than GTAIV by a mile and GTA was really good in that respect.

It's funny how gentlemanly John Marston is, as are most people during this period.

I decided to punch a random drunk and then 4 joined the brawl, and then they followed me for a really long time until I murdered all of them with my knife. It was worth the 5 dollar bounty I got on me.

I was on that level where you climb the mountain in the snow to get to dutch, right before he shoots the binoculars off your face (which is so rad). Anyways I see a little black 'x' showing where a dead body is, I was curious because I hadnt killed anything yet, this massive fucking bear is there eating a deer so i kill it and then keep climbing, the next level I see another 'x' and I think "oh must be where the bear killed the deer and then jumped down", so I start skinning this dear, it goes into this cut scene, out of nowhere I hear this loud ROAR and a fucking cougar swipes at me and almost kills me, I fucking screamed, I literally have never been so scared in a video game not in Dead Space, f.e.a.r, resident evil, nothing.

This game is so rad, I have the highest honesty, everytime im gonna fuck shit up i put on the bandana and blast everyone in sight, rob them and carry on

Im still waiting to try online, can you play poker those types of games online?

THIS GAME IS SO FUCKING GOOD

Every time I load up in Armadillo i just have to dead eye those Walton's gang cunts

Did anyone let the cannibal eat that dude? I hog-tied him and dropped him off the cliff near the river. It was on the other side of the island but this game makes me feel like a badass so i had to do it, and it was worth it

Also I fucking hate it when those people jack my horse, get some good shooting practice from it I guess

Oh and how fucking awesome is the fort mercer bit, that machine gun is mental!

I'm so psyched on this game, buy it

Pretty much all the goofy shit happens in the Stranger missions that you just find around the map, and you just fucking around. Most of the missions are straight story followed by you riding somewhere and shooting people.

I beat it the other day, not going to spoil anything but I was really disappointed by certain parts of the ending.

Random Jose Gonzalez track when you get to Mexico. That was a pretty epic gaming moment. On some lone rider shit.

i've never been into the story side of games and prefer it in small doses. does it ever get lighter on the story side and heavier on the action or should i just start skipping the story side?

Once you get a little ways into it most of the missions are just a quick cutscene, a skippable ride out to the location, and then 15 or so minutes of straight shooting tons of people. It's worth it to go through it, and there's no other way to run show with the gatling gun or cannons, so that should be endorsement enough.

I just beat the game the other day. I think the beginning parts of the game are better then the end parts. But overall a good experience. I think I am going to play it again and just be a vigilante the whole time and cap people and leave people for dead.

the trolling would be off the charts if it was in multiplayer. enter the game, get lassoed, get dragged till you die. rinse and repeat. still... would be pretty great.

I played the multiplayer on this yesterday, shit was pretty fucking cool. I played a couple death matches and it was neat chilling on the roofs sniping people out and what not. Definitely a GTA playing style, a lot of shielding yourself against walls and shit. Taking cover in this game is pretty key to being good at it. I tried the circle standoff and that was hard as fuck. Away from the matches, the online free roam was cool, killing police/civilians raising your bounty, almost like GTA and getting stars, was really fun. Kinda scary though when running into "posses", I ran into one and died in 2 seconds. Overall, pretty fun, check it out.

Think I'm about due for a second play-through. I want to play it dishonorably but I'm not sure that's even really possible. It seems like the game is always steering you towards the 'good' decisions.

HOLY FUCKING SHIT THAT DLC LOOKS SO AWESOME!   6 hour single player storyline?  that's as much as most games these days.

just beat the game a few days ago, loved it.  Absolutely loved it.  I can see how some might find the ending disappointing, but thought it was great and totally not what i was expecting.

My cousin is always talking about this game, one of the reasons he's getting an xbox again. Usually if someone tells me I have to play this or see that then I usually for no real reason hate on it to contrast it and see what they have to really say about it.

He tells me that there's going to be a zombie pack for the game, from what I know it's like gta free roam but you'd be able to mash on zombie asses.

Though games are my least priority

The new multiplayer mode is pretty great! A lot like nazi zombies in COD: World at War. Definitely worth the 800 MS points.

I sold my copy a long time ago when i got to the millionth railshooter stage. I can't fucking stand it when videogame designers get fucking lazy and put stuff in there. how is taking away my options and freedoms in a game supposed to be more fun? forcing me to stay in one place and carelessly fire a gattling gun isn't nearly as awesome as rolling and ducking behind cover and firing off a few calculated rifle rounds.

but now that this new zombie patch is out, I'm kinda kicking myself.
