THIS TRAILER MADE ME CRY
-
An emotional zombie video game trailer? I haven't been hyped on a video game in years. What system is it for?
-
thats an impressive little trailer but whats the actual game?
-
pc 360 ps3
from what i understand, its a sandbox first person RPG-ish STYLE, with heavy reliance on melee comabt and taking advantage of whatevers available. Also its more survival oriented as your expected to run from hordes of zombies instead of plow thru them with a chainsaw. Theres small bands of survivors who can either be friends or foes, as well as 4 player drop in/out co op.
Maybe think Fallout; Zombie Apocalypse? not sure
SO FUCKING STOKED.
-
looks so sick

cheers man. that sounds so fucking sick. if the developers pull it off it could be game of the year.

a friend at work said nothing more than "the trailer is the best trailer for anything I've ever seen"
He was not lying
want to learn more about it
-
Holy shit. The trailer was amazing. I'm with saucy on this - haven't been this excited to hear about a game in a while.
-
not getting hyped for this until i see gameplay footage.

For real. THey had that DC Comics video game trailer that was epic as hell and the actually game looks like ass.
I can see Dead Island just being some simple cartoon looking 3rd person game. Hopefully they come correct.

DC Online Universe??? That game's visuals are solid!
And amazing trailer. Glad I saw this first here on slap.

From the 6-8 screenshots they've released so far, it looks grim as fuck. I was wondering how they were going to make a beach resort/tropical island have some sort of creepy atmosphere.
I'm bummed about the first person view though. I don't know why but I never like first person views in a game. Especially a shooting game. Makes me feel like I have tunnel vision. Hope they make it like Fallout 3, where you can just step back behind the character.

melee combat and fps don't mix well. neither do zombie games and fps either

i think left4dead works well, but that's a valve game. i don't really have high hope for this one.

I don't know if you guys ever played this game:
It was FPS, George A. Romero slow zombies, and tons of Melee and it was fucking awesome albeit linear.
If they could pull this off in Dead Island but have an open area (GTA/Oblivion style gameplay) I could see this game being really good.
But yea I'm with max, gameplay footage or screens or GTFO, I hate when developers hype theri games with trailers that have no correlation to gameplay.

idk ive always been a huge resident evil fan so i feel thats the way they need to go. when that resident evil 4 player co-op game came out i was so psyched but it kind of sucked so hopefully this is better than that

With you on that. I always wanted a Resident Evil 2 styled game with online play. It'd be fun to explore an entire city and just occasionally run into other player. I was hoping to set traps and ambush other players if I wanted to. I'm a dickhead. RE5 had the whole co-op element, but it was all action oriented and I wasn't into that.
Hope Dead Island is more survival horror based and follows a storyline, but borrows game mechanics from Fallout 3. By the way it's been explained so far, they're really taking their time on it and trying to craft something that isn't as campy and funny as Dead Rising, but something that's gripping and exciting to play.

It's video game nerds, nerding the fuck out about a video game. Never would have thunk it.

^ my friends mom was a zombie in that flick

Word is that the preview was received positively. I still don't like the mechanics of a first person zombie-melee game. First person games are such a pain in the ass to judge depth perception, so it's hard to see what would be close enough to swing at and what is too far away. I really hope you can zoom out for a third person view.

this game was supposed to come out in 2008?

it's pretty hard to mess up zombie related products

not true. for every good zombie product there's about a dozen shitty others. film, game or whatever. yet I still watch/ play them hmmmmmm

glad i watched the trailer first on slap.... looks great, was looking forward to a return to classic shambling swarm zombies but most game developers seem to side with the rage infected kind...

i actually did play that game with my brother when it first came out... i liked that the melee weapons did shit damage to the zombies (more wacks with the hammer or golf club), you had to be super accurate with the guns to get a instant head shot and that there were swarms of zombies that came from you from all sides...
didnt help that the maps were tiny and there was only so much space to run from the zombies swarms....

Doesn't quite have the emotional weight of the trailer, but doesn't look terrible.
-
First person melee always seems weird to me. Maybe I just have poor depth-judgement in those games but it always seems too hard to gauge you swing and how far an enemy is.
The first 20 minutes of gaming looked good. I'll still buy it.
edit - New trailer they just put up a few hours ago detailing the intro. I guess you play the first few minutes of the game getting drunk and hitting on chicks. Then you wake up and everything is fucked. link fixed.

-
Doesn't look too bad to me, I agree on finding first-person melee a bit odd though. I'll probably still end up buying it just because I do enjoy a good dose of zombies.
-
What's up with that super shitty wind effect.
-
also, whats up with the zombies exploding like bags filled with water when hit with a car?
-
It's out today. Anybody picking it up?

as much as I want to, I can't be buying all these damn games. BF3 and Skyrim are taking priority over this for now.
-
Aw shucks. I'm picking it up today and I heard this game is kind of a dickhead if you don't play co-op. Oh well, guess I'll go at it by myself.

You won't be so alone... soon as I get back home tonight I'm going to snag it from Steam.
-
I'm probably gonna pick it up through steam on Thursday after I get my paycheck. If anyone wants to co-op my steam name is "INTERNET DADDY" surprise surprise.
-
i'm loving this game.
-
Hmm the internet has been hating on this game but I'll give it a shot. Review coming sunday when I cop dis joint.
-
i get the feeling the hate is because of the hype it had, especially after that first trailer.
i wont say its perfect but it sure is fun. its very satisfying when you get a perfect decapitation on a zombie.
-
I've played it an hour here and an hour there for almost a week. Starting out sucks. I didn't realize the kick was so useful and I was shattering paddles like crazy. Finding the cleaver was awesome. They said this game was going to have more plot value than it does. Right now it's just running fucking errands for everybody. "Go get me water. Go get me light fluid. Go get my teddy bear."

yeah, the review I read said it was more of an RPG than a plot-driven game. The reviewer said it was basically "Fallout 3, in paradise, with zombies."
-
Really wanna play this game, gonna get it soon!
-
game sucks ass, seriously. sorry to get everyones hopes up but once u play it ... u will agree.. zombies basically have down syndrome, u can just run around and kill them super easily... gfx are okay. if u r in the mood for zombies play l4d2 or the obvious nazi zombies, its about 100 times better than this poor excuse of a video game
-
almost forgot- the real reason i came to this thread.. u can play the full game (as i did), online and multiplayer. downloaded off piratebay.. enjoy.
-
They just rushed it. Their testing was bullshit. There are so many glitches it's insane. You can duplicate items by throwing them at the ground...so you can just multiply any expensive weapon you have and sell it to dudes for infinite money, which in turn buys you better weapons. Techland bit off more than it could chew.
-
ur totally right -but honestly how is it possible to rush a game that they introduced in 06, and pushed back till 2011... they just totally blew it.

I refuse to listen to anyone with such a poor grasp of spelling and grammar.

haha, have fun finding a job. You might want to get someone else to write your resume, just saying. ;D
-
baha, touche.. but my resume is beautiful rest assured
anyone cop rez map pack for zombies?
-
10% into the game and I havent gotten to shoot a gun. Is the whole game just about doing tasks for characters with names I refuse to learn? This games is so addicting but not fun at all.
-
Game must be good. Stay at my mates house every weekend and is brother seems to be on it 24/7
-
i'm up to the jungle and its still fun though not as much fun as when i started. The HUGE jump in difficulty once you reached the city was ridiculous. there, its not uncommon to be jumped by half a dozen zombies or more and unless you have someone playing to bail you out you will die. Also the missions are starting to drag a bit and this a complaint i have with these types of games in general. fallout, GTA, even dead rising another zombie game. basically you are everyones bitch. I dont care if a non player character wants me to collect their wallet or favourite brand of soda or rescue their grandmother. You're putting me in danger and I dont feel like doing it! no matter what the reward.
I am still enjoying it but in small doses. an hour here an hour there.
-
I already shelved it for Gears of War. It'll be lucky if it ever sees the tray of my xbox again.
-
80% and the game is still about doing shit for people but its way more fun now and zombies got beefier.
-
finished it last night. the first half i really enjoyed but by the time i got to the jungle i was aching for something different. I started to ignore the side missions and focus on the mains because i didn't care anymore. by the prison i wasn't even killing zombies anymore i was running past everything in an effort to get it done.
it felt like a chore playing the game. the final boss fight was shit taking no skill. its shoot, die, respawn, shoot again and repeat gradually wearing the boss down.
oh and lastly the storyline very quickly developed into one large cliche, i swear i've seen similar plots in pretty much every zombie film ever made. the cut scenes were embarrassing. there were a few moments that were supposed to be dramatic and emotional like the original trailer but BADLY missed the mark. and the ending after all that work is fucking pathetic.
all up 4/10
It might be less of a grind playing co op but it will be a while before i try that.

I was gonna come here and say all of that just not as well written. I liked the game a little more than you did tho, there were times where I actually jumped. Its done and now I wont go into the sewers or cities. I wish the whole game wasnt about kicking and running. Hitting The Butcher with my truck made me stoked! If they make a sequel or a game about robots id play it. Oh and fuck survivors that get hit by Thug once and die.
-
oh yeah i jumped a few times too! walking through a building, turn a corner and holy shit theres a zombie in my face! that actually surprised me as I assumed zombies were no longer scary. so i give it points for that.
BUT...... that was only in the first half of the game which i enjoyed. after a while it became more of the same scares like everything in the game. its a shame I would honestly love to rate the game higher.
