Did his social anxiety finally become too much? Did we hurt his feelings too much?
You sure you don't mean his grumpy, "I know it all", miserable old bastard syndrome?
I haven't watched an episode in ages. Feels good not listening to the same old stories told over and over, them dismissing/ignoring actual skateboarding news, and their overall airhead personalities.
-
Isn’t it filmed at his house? Would be sick to quit a job based in your living room
-
Slap should swoop him up and start a Pals podcast that aggressively antagonizes the nine club in a campaign to steal their listeners
-
In the last experience they said he was doing more "production" style stuff for them, even though they kept insisting on carrying full conversations with him while he sat off camera/off mic.
-
I hope not, but if hes over it I fully support the exit. The sad truth is, theres no money in that youtube niche kingdom shit anymore. Simple math, 5-7k per million views if you run ads hard. Its not bad crust but these guys pump a lot of time and are putting their other lives on hold. Rog is prob capable of better things so hope he finds them if this isn't some random hoax shit post.
Also im sure he would appreciate the freedom to shove a carrot up his ass while jerking off on the floor without some random visit by Bam and his entourage ruining the climax.

I think maybe the show is just carrying a new vibe. .the episodes I've seen recently w. Some combination of him in them were cool I think people are expecting too much of the show. .except maybe know who someone was riding for if that's all they did
-
OH NOOOOOOO!
-
I don't mind Jeron taking his place for a while. Also, last weeks experience episode he was there just off screen. They used him to fact check some 411 stuff that Kelly Hart said.
-
I'm fully aware the 9 club is shallow and content-less but i still put it on while I'm working for a kind of white noise if that makes sense.
-
he seems to just stepped into the producing behind the scenes stuff

I hope they are getting more than this. Their last 2 months of videos just add up to 1 million. Crob appears to be doing this full time. Rog has other jobs but probably makes the same or close to as Chris as the co-exec producer. Them splitting $3.5k per month and then breaking off whatever crumbs for kelly, justin, steezus, and jeron would be pretty rough...
-
Am I the only one who had no idea who this dude was prior to the 9 club?
-
Roger should have a spin off with another skate nerd, maybe he’d sound less sheepish and less like a know it all when compared to the rest of the crew.
Show was better when it was practically the only one. Rather check Mostly and The Bunt, before 9 Club.
-
This decision is probably solely because he can’t stand to sit next to the village idiot Eldridge on the experience anymore without having a nervous breakdown on film. And can you blame him?

Agreed! He's an entitled douchebag. Even though he's a mid 40 year old unemployed alcoholic who never amounted to shit in life and thinks he deserves a million dollars for holding a camera. Hope he reads this

I don't watch 9 Club, but I definitely had heard his name before he was on the show

Roger was the main reason to watch the show (The Main Show). He'd give a hot take here and there and wasn't afraid to be a dick sometimes. I though it was funny when he told Erik Bragg to his face he'd never get ETN.

Totally agree. The best episodes are when he would get a slight buzz and really speak his mind.

I only knew or him from the One Step Beyond “making of” in the bonus dvd section.

id bet its much less actually, a year or 2 ago you could make money from views but not so much these days (there was some incident like a year or 2 ago where one of the big youtubers got called out for being racist and a bunch of advertisers pulled their funding and it fucked with most peoples monetization). The NHS sponsorship probably brings them as much as the views do these days.
i like the idea of jeron as the new rog tho, haven't watched in a while but ill give it a shot

your forgetting they have hundreds of paypigs dropping them superchats each week. thats how you make money on youtube now, its not about views and advertising anymore. they are doing very very well for what you can make on youtube these days.
there was a moment like 2 episodes ago where kelly said that he doesn't get money from doing the 9 club, but that "the money that chris and rog get [...] they reinvest into the show". its where he starts pointing out all the new hardware if you want to go find the clip. i think he accidentally let it slip who gets paid and who doesnt
i’m pretty sure youtube takes like 1/3 of that money off the bat. But between those and the endorsements with pube trimmers and stuff i’m sure they make a lil money

Yeah, i would say he definitely could be censored by crob... the guy avoids anything even remotely controversial like everything is "amazing" and probably doesn't like it when rog actually had an opinion.

(Not for nothing) Roger probably skated more than the rest all put together over the time the show has been running. Chris is always talking about how it’s a “whole thing” to get out and skate.

Yeah, you mean the best episodes of the nine club were the ones where Rog had enough bottles of wife beater that he forgot he was actually on the nine club. - Then after some minor slap backlash he began to bite his tongue, started hiding the beers (what was that about?) and pretty much regressed to not saying anything at all, allowing the whole show to quickly fall into the cowardly inoffensive, show and tell podcast that's scared to have any kind of opinion what so ever.
Anyways that's my take and imo you could pretty much replace this clip over any moment Rog has spoken within the last year on the nine club.

Kelly also said that the chat where they donated the money to charity that one time was by far the most they ever made during a live chat. Cant remember the exact number he said, was a few grand but I remember thinking if thats their PB these guys are running on fumes. Weekend Buzz paved the way and even that tanked, not holding much hope for good ole 9club long term. All the podcasts that last are the ones that get down and dirty / controversial. 9club had it back in the day with Wayne blasting blunts and Dollin paving the table in beer bottles but it got a lot tamer and are running out of pros to highlight. Repeating old pros was the beginning of the end.

I haven't listened to it in months. But, he was the most interesting simply due to the fact he actually knew the guests back story and wasn't afraid to be critical. In general, unless its a guest I'm really interested to hear talk, I'll rarely listen to a nine club, whereas the Bunt is generally good regardless due to being shorter and rapid fire (I rarely listen to anything past the guest). Kelly is to happy go-lucky, and Chris Roberts doesn't know much about the guests unless he actually knows them outside of them appearing on his podcast.

What you just wrote is incorrect homie
They have 2 nine club channels on youtube and actually have 1.9 million+ views in the last 30 days.
-
Recently listened to the Tim Gavin episode they did. Tim's so funny that it was worth it. But I haven't listened to another full episode in a long time.
They had Chris Cole as their most recent guest and I got through about ten minutes. He was trying to explain why he couldn't slappy and it was like I was listening to Charlie Brown's teacher, so I had to turn it off and get some work done.
I'm a fan of Jeron and it's cool to see him taking an active role, but it would really suck to see Roger leave since he's a trove of skate knowledge. I don't think he lost his edge too much, he went off on Element for underpaying filmers not too long ago.
-
I gave up on this podcast a long time ago. And it was purely because of Chris Roberts. He is super clueless, he interjects after every sentence with "oh, yeah, wow, uh-huh", he interrupts interesting stories to talk about some lame shop sponsor that no one cares about(including the guest most times), and there is just no substance to his interviews.
Kelly is a goof, but likable. Rog always drops good knowledge.

Sums it up perfectly. Ultimately the show actually fucking sucks thanks to the fact that they come completely unprepared.
I think at first it was this neat "hey cool! Ill do that!" thing because it was well-produced, Crob is, ostensibly anyway, funny, and Rog is a legit skate fan and Kelly has a big heart and is nice.
This wont be popular, but fuck it, the Bunt guys are way, way more knowledgeable but they sound like they are trying SO FUCKING HARD to sound like they do and be "cool" and fucking gangster or some shit its fucking hella annoying. Still, I'd listen to that shit all day compared to 9C, like most of you.

ive been sticking to the highlights . Roger is great and has a lot of knowledge . roger doesn't have a at the end of the road skate career to milk coverage of this like the other guys. this is the most boards crob has ever sold guaranteed

Nine Club: the show with people who used to skateboard talk about skateboarding
-
Actually watched a bit of latest experience to see how it fared without Rog. In one segment, Chris has a combo on Rog's shitty little slappy curb that semi blew up on insta recently. Word has it that Rog is super gutted after all his years of carrying the 'guy who still skates' slappy gutter torch. Now, Chris comes out of retirement and destroys his one spot in a single session. Rog is super depressed and over the whole 'experience' and is making moves to destroy the show as retaliation. True story..
-
I always liked Rog. To me he’s just not an ass licker and people mistake that for smugness.
-
They had a meeting with the manscape marketing department and Roger just didnt hit the right demographics or have that golden voice for advertisement.
Or he feels bad he actually said 'dude can you get my taint' to Chris in that manscape ad. Hope that ad pays alright. I'd say it for a free razor i reckon.
-
At least he is being replaced by a dude that actually did something in skating.

Ya'll just haters. Budget ass keyboard jockeys. Haha, its nothing but love I'm just talking shit, but I like nine club for what it is. Are there episodes I skip, or don't make it all the way through? Yea, but I do that with all my favorite podcasts, albums, tv shows (that weren't congruent to each episode) etc.
I think this was Roger's idea. He's always spouted how he thought someone else would be better in his seat. I think this is a good move, and don't have any problem with Rog spouting off from the background. I remember growing up, seeing that type of shit with late night tv or something.
Anyways, I think Dubs is a solid addition, he adds a really good vibe.
Ok cool, someone order me a pizza.
-
I haven’t listened to an actual nine club in a while except I’ve been listening to the stop and chats and I like them more. It’s more free and no corny stories everyone knows. But damn with out roger I can’t see any 9 club being appealing. They all stray away from serious questions but he was the more likely to say what he wanted. Hopefully if he is off he started a more roger skate need type pod or segment of nine club. Or even with momentum of nine club make a homie video or something
-
I don't hate the 9Club, and like the Bunt, episodes are make or break by the guest. I think the Steve Olson episode is one of the best skate podcasts ever.
Im surprised to see Rog hate on here. Dude's a true skate nerd, and as said above, he has actual opinions on skateboarding, unlike anyone else on the show. He was a much needed balance to Kelly Hart. The Nine Club will be worse without him.
-

A big part of slap is having differing opinions on skate-related topics, which is exactly what Rog does. That paired with his seemingly endless skate-knowledge feels integral to the show.
Ironic to think he catches heat on the forum for doing essentially what we do on here but with a more inside-perspective to base said opinions on

Roger is pretty cool. He takes a lot of shit but without him, episodes with guys like Grosso or Lance or basically anyone older than Chris Roberts, they would have nothing to talk about. Roger also skates a good curb. Skate shows need skate nerds.
-
Rog and some guests are what make the show watchable for me (depending on guest). I would guess that 50% of what they make comes from brand sponsors of the show/maybe some from guest sponsors. Views, donations i would imagine are basically cherries on top.
I don't find Rog to be arrogant or a "know it all" but the only "know something" on the show.
The Bunt, Mission Statement, and our very own Pals Questions are superior in all ways if you ask me.
Dan Lu's existence, but most of all RAPID FIRE was soft as lambs wool
-
I'm gonna go with:
Roger looked visibly bummed in the ragdoll stop n chat, my guess is that he's over it because 'skaters are idiots' and they said on the show that you can't monetize a video if there's too much swearing in it, especially in the frst hour. he realized theyd have to cut the swears, and didnt want to butcher the episode because of it. so he let it slide but decided there and then that its something out of his control so he took his chance to peace out. along with the fact that he barely said anything most episodes anyway, it must have been an easy decision. if youve been watching the show and then you were on it, and swore your ass off, you just fucked with the money those dudes were trying to make.
(not totally serious about this post, yeah yeah i know eldridge swears tons and they make money from donations blah blah)
-
Rethought my original theory that Rog was pissed at Crob for shutting down his slappy curb. Its probably more that Rog wants to kick back stoned out with a Beer and not have studio lights up in his grill.
It was one episode before with Tim Gavin that he bailed, only way it could time up with Crob is if he saw the footage early and knew it would blow up cos its literally the best skating Crob has done in 10 years. Having his spot shutdown by Crob of all people would definitely make it an easier decision.

Not only that, they are asking the same questions. They had Cole on for a ‘stop and chat’ and spent 30 mins discussing his Wallenberg 360 flip. I think it’s the third time now they have had him on and had a lengthy discussion about it.
IMO bring back Rodger, keep Jeron and give Eldy the flick

Gotta say, Crob came through, the other fuckers need to film some clips to keep the show aliveZ Eldy get off ur retired ass and find a tech trick u can still do to man up, Kelly should be fine to pull one out, Steezus is the missing link, dudes back is out of surgery, but he would be doing himself big ups if he nabbed a clip. Like u mofos keep telling all ur guests 'we are just happy to see u still skating'... live it

Not gonna lie, I like the nine club alot.
It's the 'feel good' show while the bunt has more 'edge'. The bunt makes me cringe sometimes though, mainly because that wannabe gangster talk gets old real fast.
The only advice I'd give Nine Club is to make the questions more deeper. If something happens, get to it. If you know a skate was into drugs, ask him about it. They're not going to eat you alive...
Rog was a huge part of the show for me and it already feels akward, he had soome goo dknowlegde and stuff from behind the scenes, and dare to be critical...
He was the grumpy likeable uncle :(

Jeron sucks ass, everything is " so weird" or "so random" and what the fuck was that buttery/budget bullshit? Full on crailtap bullshit

I agree and for gods sake someone free Max b. I have to ask, are you sure Max B hasn’t already achieved his freedom. Curious minds want to know

max b will be free as early as next year. pete singlehandedly reduced max b’s 75 year prison sentence to 12 years. thank you pete.
also, rogers tight, anyone sending shots at my boy can eat shit.

I dont get why they keep talking to him like he has a mic. Either give him one and talk to him off camera, or dont give him a mic and stop asking dead air for skatenerd knowledge/facts ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

This is pretty much the exact same way I feel. I appreciate what they do but do wish it was a little less PG. The California bro down everyone loves each other shit gets old quick but that’s why Roger is important

Is Kelly and Eldy injured? Why do they never post clips?
They're streaming live right now with Jeron and Eldy.

Kelly broke an ankle and had some sort of surgery in the past year i'm pretty sure. Eldy is injured too.
-
I think Kelly is semi retired as a pro skater and Eldy rides for chocolate....
-
This shit was borderline unwatchable when Rog wasn't engaged and will be completely unwatchable without him.
-
Also of social media apparently.
Not a single post on his instagram.

He was always talking about how he randomly deletes everything or deletes videos once they hit 10k views or something so it’s par for the course I guess.
-
I back Roger as a background guy, doing fact checks and pulling videos/images a la Jamie in Joe Rogan's Experience.
Also, this could mean the outside ventures shown in the early experiences could be revamped and worked a bit better, it's just a matter of doing more behind vs in front of the camera, like he's used to anyways.

My unpopular opinion is that outside of skate knowledge, Rog is kind of an idiot. He constantly fucks up talking about basic adult human stuff but with the same confident little smirk that he has when he talks about who did what on a Ventura parking lot fire hydrant in 1994.
Wouldn't be surprised if Kelly had a much higher IQ or whatever. (I am not Kelly I swear)
-
I loved the 9 club.
My take:
Chris is a really good host and his "arrogant i don't skate anymore" schtick was pretty funny. He's actually a good leader and keeps stuff on track.
Kelly as the bubbly positive guy and 411 fanboy is great.
Roger as the crabby deep knowledge skateboard insider added tons of texture.
Experience crew:
Steezus is great. Non California perspective, good takes, funny af
Eldy is a clown, but there's room for a clown with 5 guys
JW is a 1000% positive, buttery perfect replacement for any of the three dudes who aren't Crob or Rog, which made him the ideal guest.
But replacing Rog with JW fucks up the whole texture of the show, Crob has no go-to guy for facts (hence all the stupid dead air bullshit) and the whole flow of the show is not as good. If they ever go back to real episodes, they will really suffer for not having someone who actually was paying attention to something other than their own career over the last 20 years asking questions.
My guess is that Chris is hardcore chasing the YouTube dream and felt like JW drew better than Rog, and my other guess is that Rog passive aggressively was like "ok fine kick me off" and left on-camera piece. Chris also sounded super disingenuous when he explained about Roger being demoted.
You can feel tension now that wasn't there before and it's lame. I like all 6 dudes, but I haven't been able to watch a non-Rog episode. I'm pretty much done which sucks because I've watched every episode, even the bad ones. I have no podcast in my life now.
I was thinking of sending back my mug in protest, but I want to try to stay positive. I wish them all well, but they no longer have any authenticity and I don't need to watch PG video of dudes saying rad skateboarding is rad. I can just watch Skateline, get some fucking humor, and catch my links there.

I like the Nine Club, I just throw it on for some background banter and don't take it very seriously though. The way they bite their tongues while sarcastically reading out their ads as a unit is hilarious.

They had a 13 yr old kid phone in, who told them JW was his favourite skater, they arent adding grit anytime soon, if anything I seem them sanitizing the format even more and hoping to pickup some braille fetus fans.

It seems like you're implying that Rog is on the spectrum, like asperger's or something. I could totally buy that.
On Topic: I haven't watched an episode in a long time but I'm a bit bummed Rog isn't there. I think they balanced each other very well.
-
Jeron in Roger's spot is weird only on the main show. Not into it for some reason.
As far as the experience, they need to swap out steezus for a different person every week. someone that has something to share, promote, anything but steezus every week.
i feel like im beating a dead horse but despite the shows being totally fine, they're blowing it by not doing other content on the channel. field segments, day in the lifes, spot checks, anything?

I hope not, but if hes over it I fully support the exit. The sad truth is, theres no money in that youtube niche kingdom shit anymore. Simple math, 5-7k per million views if you run ads hard. Its not bad crust but these guys pump a lot of time and are putting their other lives on hold. Rog is prob capable of better things so hope he finds them if this isn't some random hoax shit post.
Also im sure he would appreciate the freedom to shove a carrot up his ass while jerking off on the floor without some random visit by Bam and his entourage ruining the climax.
That last bit was funny as fuck lmao
-
Rog's sexual innuendos and always being annoyed at Crob was fucking hilarious and sorta cringe at the same time. He would say shit I haven't heard since the junior high lunch table and I loved it
-
I like the mix of CRob, Kelly and Roger.
