Hey Colin, what kind of carrier are you using for these hikes? I just moved to an area with a lot of trails and want to get one for the boy. I have an ergobaby that I think can go on the back but I was thinking about getting something with a frame and more support.

Just thought I'd weigh in on baby carriers. I tried a bunch at REI and ended up with a Deuter. It was pricey but was definitely the best fitting and nicest build of all the ones I tried (and we got grandpa to foot the bill).

Sadly it didn't get as much use as I intended because I ended up with a 2nd baby when my 1st was only one year old so logistically, it was hard to do hikes with both kids.

I'll add that most babies don't have the neck muscles for a back carrier until around 9 months and then will probably get disinterested/want to get out and walk/too heavy around two years old.
