Curious if a Zion Pro model (or at minimum a Zion Pro colorway) was part of his deal?
I feel like that was probably one of many deciding factors for him leaving Nike.
i really don’t feel like he “left” nike. i can’t believe this is still up for debate. from his post and just common sense, you don’t just leave that paycheck.
I will say this, if Vans approached Zion w/ a poaching mentality, the prospect of a pro model/color means residuals on top of a check. Zion probably went to Nike with the info, expecting a counter offer, and when Nike didn't match, he walked.
Zion treats skateboarding like a business, so, in my head, that kind of negotiation would take place. Especially seeing he knows his worth (Olympian status included) he knew he can always score another big name shoe sponsor.
A lot of other skaters don't have that kind of bargaining chip, but he does.
