Someone commented on his latest B&C Insta post saying he should have never left Crailtap and he responded with something like "Nice private profile tough guy!" was super cringe worthy...He also followed it up saying he was "kicked off" Chocolate. Sure, kicked off for bailing from Lakai to Adidas with no notice after MC asked you to wait for the appropriate time..
Just watch his fully flared part. Then tell me he shoudlve waited to leave lakai while they werent even paying him. He made that video legendary and they werent paying him towards the end dude. fuck that. You wouldnt leave to addidas if they were offering to pay you money to wear their shoes whilst you dropped a 3 song legendary banger of a part for Lakai helped sell millions of pairs of shoes and he should just stay because hes honored to be there? wtf this dude should spend 0 days not receiving free shit for his contributions to skateboarding.
I don't think anyone, MC included, blames him for leaving Lakai for Adidas for a bigger paycheck. The problem is the way he went about it.
If Adidas had him sign an nondisclosure agreement leading up to the video, there really wasn't much MJ could do about it.
He could have told Mike & Rick he had plans to leave Lakai and work something out instead of blindsiding them? Are you saying the non disclosure agreement would have prevented him from telling his current sponsor he was leaving?
mike knew marc was leaving for adidas. Marc was asked not to say anything until the future drop of MJ lakai's hit the stores. Adidas was about to drop their first ever full length video Away Days and Marc needed to be in the video to promoted for his future career with them. Mike was pissed and that marc said he would hold out for over six months but didnt. The thing is if mike cared about marc he would've wanted him to be in the Away Days video. The MJ lakai shoe doesnt say MJ on the actual shoe anywhere. the shoe was simply renamed the Daily and the only thing Lakai had to do to fix the problem was put new stickers on the shoe boxes. the shoes still hit the stores. The fact that Lakai was planning to sell all the skate shops MJ shoes knowing he was leaving is fucked up. they should have renamed it the Daily right away and made the announcements and moved forward.
you realize rebranding, restickering, and changing ad campaigns all cost money? all of those things would have been set in motion months before marc told them he wasnt gonna re-sign or quit. maybe bad forecasting on lakais parts but thats why they have contracts, to cover their asses.
Yes I realize. All shoes are booked like 3 seasons in advance, and designed even further in adavance. Dumping those shoes on skate shops right before marc leaves was never gonna be ok. I think Lakai would have faced huge backlash if they sold MJ shoes to stores knowing he was gonna leave. in the interviews Marc said he was asked to wait over 6 months. Thats enough time to resticker the boxes and create an add campaign while the shoe is in production still. Shoes are crazy because everything is planned so far in advance. the shoes you see this season were designed over a year ago.
The sales man for Dekline was super gung ho to sell shoes to our local shop. a month later they announced they were closing. that snake knew but still tried to dump the shoes on shops.
That is enough time to re-sticker boxes, rename, and rebrand. You know what makes that more difficult? Saying you'll wait six months, then not waiting the six months and having footage in the video you specifically told your boss you would not have footage in. All of that fucks up rebranding and remarketing pretty badly.
Funny aside, i work in market research and had someone, completely unprompted, say something to the effect that using 'and company' is such a worn out and terrible trend and he wouldn't be surprised if one day, someone started a shitty brand called 'Business and Company' to try and capitalize on it.
