I mean, does it really get any better than this? Tom, and Jacob Harris are a combo that is the epitome of tasteful skateboarding.
-
unbelievable. that felt like falling in love for the very first time.
-
Instant classic
-
My expectations were really high before I started watching, but eventually they stopped mattering. At some point I just felt like I was melting into the experience of watching this part. Really cool.
Also loved the homage to the clip of Mike Arnold walking out of the train door.
-
Intro was funny. “Tom Knox. Tom Knox. Tom Knox. With: Tom Knox.”
A supremely likable part. Kudos to Tom and Jacob.
-
I don't have a single bad thing to say about this part. Perfect trick/spot selection. I love the little touches he adds, like the quick fs boardslide after the bs 360 down the stairs. Hard to pick a favorite clip, he can string lines together in such an interesting way. Loved the line that started with the ollie over the can to back lip, and the quick footed street gap line.
-
Instant classic
-
love seeing all the curb and low ledge skating lately, cuz that's about how high I can pop these days
-
Now that's a class act.
They should try and get Mark Suciu for the next Catfish clip. An edit with Tom Knox and Suciu doing marathon lines and those quick feet combos would be a thing of beauty.
-
The skating was exemplary, of course. Reliable and somehow full of surprises at the same time. Spot selection on point, full of tricks we've never seen Tom Knox do.
Beyond the skateboarding, Jacob Harris did an amazing job paying homage to their scene's past (Day 1410, the first song, the mop).
This one will be on rotation for a long time.
-
Instant classic
Incredibly tasteful. Love watching him navigate the gnarly english terrain.
-
This guy is a genius. Absolutely fucking amazing in all aspects.
-
i think i need some time to process it, but he is for sure the modern day king of weird bank spots!
-
That was one of the best parts I’ve ever seen.
-
this is easily one of the greatest video parts of all time. at least top 30
@ me
-
Perfect skateboarding. I will watch this many, many times.
-
Wow
-
Tom Knox is a treasure. I shouted multiple times watching this in my car alone. Everything about this was perfect but I love the sound of the shitty ground he always seems to be skating on. Jacob Harris will never put out anything subpar in my eyes. Can’t wait to watch over and over again. Hope it doesn’t rain today cuz this made me wanna skate so badly.
-
That was one of the best parts I’ve ever seen.
-
He won't win, but he has my vote for SOTY.
-
This is the Best part that I seen this year, I'm a big fan but Tom exceeded all my expectations.

Deleted my original post after watching this back to back. Ohtight says it better than I can. This really makes me want to go out and skate right now. But maybe a third view on the way out the door.
-
Wow this was phenomenal. Incredibly creative skating with top notch filming - Jacob Harris really is one of the best.
Definitely the best "crusty" part ever put out. I cant believe he can skate that light-footed on terrain I wouldn't even enjoy walking on.
That back 180 to sw 50-50 on the London tube curved thing is pleasantly burned into my mind. What a great friday this is!
-
so satisfying to see crusty english spots getting destroyed.
Did he really bonk his nose off the post with that kickflip into the bank?
-
Thrasher interview is up too
https://www.thrashermagazine.com/articles/tom-knox-atlantic-drift-interview/
-
wow.
what makes this part so special, just like Max Palmer's 917 part, is the little things, the intracacies that no one else would do. the little front board to fakie. The (maybe) accidental nose bonk on the kickflip, make this (already great) part one for the history books. Tom Knox, a beautiful mind.
-
the two triple curb lines were fucking sick
the whole thing was sick
skating is cool
-
kickflip nosemanual nollie the gap was exceptional. the little floater on the nollie was so good.
he's gotta be one of the most productive pro's out there! he outs out 10+ minutes of solid footage every year
-
Tough to roll around without hitting a crack at half those spots. A+
-
That was amazing, as said before there is nothing to complain about. Atlantic Drift is the best thing Thrasher puts out.
-
That was one of the best parts I’ve ever seen.
-
kickflip nosemanual nollie the gap was exceptional. the little floater on the nollie was so good.
I was mezmerized by him travelling the same speed as the car in the background, and it's front wheel staying exactly between his legs the whole time.
-
Give this man SOTY
That quick heelflip after the big ollie :o
-
Brought a tear to my eye. Beautiful
-
SOTY
Trick selection, spot selection, music selection all A1
Lots of really cool little details in the edit as well. Throwbacks to old AD edits, spots, etc. Will be on repeat for a long time
I’ll say it again, SOTY
-
Perfect
-
Flawless. Will be on heavy rotation for months.
-
Strobeckian disciple filmmakers, take notes. Damn, this was rad.
-
Jup, thats SOTY right there. Everyone can basically stop realising footage for 2020, might aswell call it a year now.
SOTY goes to Tom.
VOTY goes to J. Harris.
TOTY goes to Brandon Turner.
Also, if you want to support Tom, now is a good time to check our his latest colour way from NB: https://www.newbalance.com/pd/numeric-440/NM440HV1-35885.html/

For 10 entire minutes! wild wild shit.
-
Wow. Beautiful video. Love all the subtle nods to the past vids. Thoughtful and beautiful. Tom Knox kills it.
-
That was one of the best parts I’ve ever seen.
my exact thought. His lines are what my skate dreams are made of.
This is skateboarding, that's all I want. It makes me want to get on my board and skate.
And give him SOTY
-
holy shit, fastest 10 minutes of my life
This is exceptional
-
Tom is unreal. I know who I would vote for SOTY (limited chance Thrasher gives him serious consideration though). Tom and Jacob deliver as always.
-
what everyone else said.
part took me like 20 minutes to finish cause i kept replaying stuff. a masterpiece both skateboarding and video-wise. I'm assuming that's a live version of the song from the first atlantic drift. lots of cool little nods in there.
imagine if soty went from milton martinez to tom knox? wishful thinking but i would love to see such a heavy contrast
-
Jesus Christ. Too good for his own good. And what a credit to London spots.
-
Bellisimo
(https://i.imgur.com/m55eEfW.gif)
Other than just beauty, that nollie flip into the brick pyramid with the drop looked terrifying.
Special mention to the quick front board to fakie after the back 3.
-
I don't ever have physical, emotional reaction while watching skate videos but boy this one did something for me
-
@rothdigga i see you in here, hope you guys at the nb office will give our man a fat bonus <3
-
I feel like you could drop him literally anywhere in the world and he could string together a 5+ trick line there that would be amazing.
-
My goodness. This is devastatingly good. I'm kind of in a state of shock right now. That really stirred something up in me.
-
Although my expectations were high, this greatly exceeded them. Incredibly good video. Jake and Tom always pull strong emotions out of me when they make something together. Sickest video part I’ve seen since.. well, Vase.
-
*chef's kiss*
-
That was this years Verso. Beautiful skating and crusty spots galore.
-
God damn. Don’t care about SOTY but Knox is the one in my eyes, without a doubt. Fastest feet in the game.
What’s the Day 1410 reference? Call back to a previous Drift episode I’m forgetting? My brain is mashed potatoes drenched in butter.
-
This is crazy. This is one of those parts i'll watch 100s of times.
-
This part really does put you in a trance-like state, doesn't it. I need a cigarette
-

Atlantic Drift premiered 1410 days ago exactly, and in the first episode it said "Day 1" on the same screen.
-

Pay cut...ha! When we did a little office preview of the part I was like "10 minutes seems like a long part man" and then when it was over I couldn't believe the LACK of filler and B-roll, it went by so quick. Usually people are just scratching to fill their parts but this had none of that at all. Dare I say some of the marathon lines remind me a bit of Lavar where he keeps going but it's not just easy filler tricks but real, actual hard shit! The intricacies of like the switch manny across the street or as mentioned the front board to fakie are just magical. I also still can't believe the fakie tre switch manny to stair jump. That one blew my mind.
-
unbelievable. that felt like falling in love for the very first time.

this one like a skate porn for me
-
Best part this year and it’s not even close. Using the word masterpiece to describe skating seems weird but in this case it warrants it
-
I feel all warm and fuzzy after watching this. There is a lot to say about this part but I am not going to spoil the feeling with detail analysis. I’ll have to let this sink in.
-
each trick was like finding a new fry at the bottom of the bag
-
nothing to say that hasn't already been said. that was just absolutely incredible.

-
I shouted "no fucking way!" a lot in between laughing hysterically while watching this.
I don't even think SOTY is enough for this level of skating. It sounds like hyperbole to say.
But when Tony Hawk Pro Skater entered and technical skateboarding seemed videogame-esque to some, it took away something from that kind of skating.
This part with the crust factor and quick combo iterations breaks that barrier to me. Like, it would require some serious AI and computing power to replicate when tech hammer stuff in the past just took a few button presses and a finesse of a joystick. It captures how magical skateboarding can be and how singularly unique it really is.
If he does get SOTY, I don't think Mason or anyone else can be mad at losing to this.
Well done, Mr. Knox and Mr. Harris.
-
No offense to the people saying SOTY but if Mark Suciu didn’t take it last year and Tiago hasn’t taken it yet, it’ll be a cold day in hell before Tom Knox takes 2020.
Edit, knew I’d be kooked for this, but I’m talking about thrasher magazine not Tom...
-
I don't think I've ever seen such unanimous praise for a part on Slap.
-

Loving this perspective! Contrasting the part with video game aesthetics brings to light some of its essential qualities. My friend says that someday we will mention this part in the same breath as Dylan. and Hsu in Bag of Suck. I am inclined to agree.

Tom Knox is easily one of the best back lipsliders ever. Him, Crockett, Heath, Duffy.

man you can *really* hear all those spots
-
I've honestly watched this so many times already. This is the perfect part. Tom Knox can do no wrong. Jacob Harris can do no wrong.
Real stand out of the part is his brother's clip of the duck under then fs 5050 that massive rail in shorts, Hawaiian shirt and man bun (I believe Chris Jones did this BS in a more recent clip). Just the juxtaposition of the two of them was sick to me. Like this video is of gritty street skateboarding in dreary London, then the cool breeze that is Tom Knox's brother surfs up and the sun briefly rises on the English empire as he does a chill floater on a beefy rail. There's even a hugging celebration clip, which seems a bit rare in English footage. Then it goes back to the part, almost like it was a fever dream of good vibrations. In a part full of surprises, it's an additional twist.
-------
As far as Tom's footage, what more can be said? The lines were excellent and well thought out. There's a flat ground heelflip that may be my favorite heelflip of all time. A+ Can't imagine it being any better than this.
-
Can we also take a second to realize, especially in the current times when so many skaters are dropping solo thrasher parts, the humility of putting the atlantic drift name with this, emphasizing the team effort of a truly amazing part.
-
Float like a jellyfish, flick like a ???
Not to sound like a wanker, but the part was like some kind of exquisite unending tasting menu, with a series of surprises to keep you refreshed, including a spot selection not a million miles from Destroying America
If this is how he produces after having three kids, please go ahead and have more
Also, can’t wait for the NB AD TN jellyfish anorak
-
I also still can't believe the fakie tre switch manny to stair jump. That one blew my mind.
rewound that one a couple of times to see if it was a manual. Thought it was not. If it was, that was a really bad angle for that trick.
Nice part
-
He won't win, but he has my vote for SOTY.
Sadly I feel the same. Although I wouldn’t be the least bit bummed if Mason took home SOTY. That being said, it’s been a long time since a video has made me so excited.
-
I clapped multiple times on the first viewing, I'm pretty sure I have never done that at home alone before
-
incredible skating. reminded me of classic cliche vids...if he got SOTY no complaints from me
that being said some of that needed to be ZOOMED THE FUCK OUT
can we leave the over zoom behind us in 2021
-
Even though secondary to Tom’s marvelous skateboarding and Jacob Harris’s videography, this part also showcases how much more of skateboarding’s drama is conveyed through VX 4:3 than HD 16:9. And the sound! So raw and direct, emphasized by being mixed very loudly. Try watching Fourth Quarter after this, it lacks all the intensity. To be fair, the rough ground heavily contributes to this.
-
That was such a delight. He has such an original approach that's tasteful and fun to watch, not to mention at spots most would deem unskateable.
Never forget that Emerica cool guy'd the fuck outta him at one point. Now look at him.
-
That was just pure gold.
Expectations were high when I heard there was a full Knox part coming and this exceeded in every possible way.
Congrats to Tom and Jacob.
-
One of the best parts I’ve seen in years.
Right up there with Suciu for me.
-
Double tre on that blue bank. Bloody hell.
There's so much to unpack and I'm going to be watching this for years and years.

I was thinking this is like if Verso was trimmed a bit with some different flavor, but very similar in structure I feel

Agreed, this part is amazing obviously.
Ollie into the 3 foot long brick bank to 6 foot drop &
360 flip up the kinked bank, to fakie 360 flip in
Had me laughing 🤣 love this guy!

I too laughed at the tre flip tre flip. Also, the tre flip to quick bs powerslide around the corner was fucking amazing.

Of course you remembered this haha. That’s brilliant.
I fucking loved this part. I’m seriously debating picking up a pair of his new shoes just to show support. Too much cool stuff to mention, but I also loved the kickflip over the street nose manual nollie over the street clip, the back 180 switch 5050 clips, and how he finds new shit on that rumble strip to stairs spot. I love too how he’s so willing to pick the “simple” but unexpected trick, like just doing a fakie ollie down stairs at the end of a line of being ok with a light footed switch ollie/manual versus stomping something heavy. It gives a gnarly laissez-faire feel.
-

What is there to debate?

I predict the QS Top 10 tonight will be all from this.
-
Now that’s a fucking part. Good spots, really good lines and even better skateboarding. The true lord of the line. Top notch folks.
His singles are amazing as well but I agree I think his lines are what put him head and shoulders above everyone else. He keeps you guessing with how far he’s going to go and what trick he’s going to do and where he’s going to do it. Just amazing. He had no business throwing in a sw fs bigspin on the bank and then sw manual in that one line.
-

been trying to buy an Isle deck for a long time so if anyone knows where they're in stock online, well, I'm more motivated now.

waited all day to watch this. what a gift. ten minutes of poetry and romance. I am speechless
-
the skating gets better and better everytime you watch it, it's so fucking good. all the fisheye camera work is incredible in the lines.
However, if you watch it again and make note of every single time the camera is stationary the angle is so fucking zoomed. what is this point of this? did bill strobek effectively get people to ruin footage for the near future?
what the fuck is the point of of filming amazing shit, like the ollie down, bs tail, quick up to 5050 up AGAIN to 5050 bs 180 to fakie grind if you can barely see it? so fucking lame. it's not just that trick but almost every trick with a stationary camera
-
The combo of Tom Knox on the board and Jacob Harris behind the camera is one of two absolute geniuses you can tell really know how to work with each other, holy shit. I laughed in disbelief and replayed so many clips in this several times. Part ticks all the right boxes to be considered the 2020 equivalent of a Ricky in EE3 or PJ in WHL to me, avant-garde approach, good taste and flawless execution on both sides of the lens. I also feel like there's a lot of authenticity behind the general direction that's bound to fly over most people's heads including my own but can still be felt regardless of all the Thrasher and NB branding you could think of because the duo is just that good.
-

The way he filmed that line was completely fine. It's not even close to how Strobeck would film that. Jacob nails it in this part. In all the years he's putting out footage, I don't think I've heard a complaint about Jacob's VX work. There is nothing wrong with footage that is filmed in tight with zoom. Strobeck is just the extreme.

atp i would say strobeck isn't even the extreme, all the shitty ass imitators really ruined that style of filming. there are mfs who have no business behind a camera. bill can be a little (sometimes a lot) much, but dude can edit really well and has payed his dues. some videos i see now are just insanely shoddily put together and makes me bummed for the skaters

zero spot envy, all the skill envy

A work of singular genius.
I suspect in 2030 when there are end of decade lists for best part, this will be number 1, or at least very close.
Again, not much more to say as everyone else has said it much better than me, but I will leave this photo of the Ollie over the bin to back lip here for people to appreciate:

I love Tom Knox. The tune for the first part too (a remix of the song from the first Drift video?) just makes this.
-
Watched it, loved it, began scrolling thread and see people saying it was 10 minutes. THAT was 10 minutes?!?!!! I had no idea, I was completely engrossed. Wow.

Watching AGAIN.

so much good stuff in this, best video part i've seen this year, it went by so fast and i rewinded half of the tricks, didn't feel like 10 minutes at all

Not using the zoom isn't the difference between something being timeless or not. It's the era of skateboarding we are in.
Most skateboarding that is considered 'timeless' is filmed like complete garbage. Watch any video in the 90's.

Part of the year for sure. At the risk of sounding corny, this reminded me why I love skateboarding so much.
I want to see that ollie-over-the-bin to backlip at the beginning of the line @6:00 without slo-mo. The ollie that starts off the line @3:45 is so explosive and commanding and I feel like that backlip would give off the same energy in real time.
-
I don't even know what to fucking say. SOTY has to be this dude or Mason Silva
-
Finally got to watch this. Holy shit he's been skating some gnarly non-spots. Tom and Jake are the best.
-
Just hook it up to my veins
-
This was a sick part, every time I thought the line or trick was over he did something fucked. I was shouting on almost every clip
-
I knew the 16mm clip of Tom in the train station was a recreation of the Mike Arnold clip from the first episode, but I just realized the no push ollie, bigspin, switch ollie line at the road gap spot at basically the same time was a Mike Arnold homage, too. He did that same line at Lloyds in his solo part below (2:05) and he's in the background of Tom's clip cheering.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jppkie6Rsvs
What a brilliant part. I'm sure there are a dozen more easter eggs like this to uncover.

I really enjoyed how you could tell Tom actually enjoyed making the video. Just looked like he was having a good time throughout the entire video. We need more videos like this

I don't have much to say that hasn't been said already. Tom Knox, Jacob Harris, and England are a match made in heaven. The skating sounds in this were particularly great.

Magnificent skating, filming and music. This is one of the best parts of all time, without a shadow of a doubt.
What struck me in particular on the second viewing is how you really can't tell if he planned some of those last second maneuvers or is improvising, like the fs board to fakie on the brick ledge after the bs 360 down the stairs and the sw manual across the street.
In any case I've never seen anyone do anything like this on this level, it's like Video Days Gonz with Suciu level tech skills on the crustiest and most well-chosen spots imaginable.
-
Whole thing just felt like something new. Didn’t know what was coming next.

My initial viewing was on my computer with my budget audiophile setup with USB fed headphone amp. There were textures to those streets flowing into my ears. Next level.

Great video. Real street skating.

What Roary McTwang said
-
Something that struck me on repeat viewings is just how "street" this part is. There's a couple of public parks and plaza type places, but for the most part there's almost always pedestrians around, and often he has to dodge them. That's just London I guess. So densely populated. I just find that a lot more relatable and impressive than an edit with mostly California school yards.
I feel like there was something more that I'm missing about the Ben Raemers tribute at 6:47. Did Ben used to skate that spot maybe?
Another thing that I wonder about is how much filming/editing contributes to a skater's SOTY chances. Jacob Harris's Atlantic Drift edits are always gold and have such a distinct style to them. Watching Mason's Nike part, I thought the song didn't live up to the skating and having only one angle on the ender was weak. Doesn't take away from Mason's absolute tear of a run this year, he's one of the best out right now, but I wonder if his edits weren't as corporate clean, would he have an even better lead?
-
I mean, totally, the videography is fundamental to the impact of a part, and therefore how a skateboarder is perceived. My wife actually pointed this out after watching Atlantic Drift, how much more engaging and exciting it was than Fourth Quarter, which we had watched together a few days before. She doesn’t skate so this tells a lot I reckon, especially since there is much more subtlety about Tom‘s skating than the hammers dropping left and right in a Primitive video. We rewatched Fourth Quarter afterwards and it felt so bland and boring despite the insane level of skating. I am a huge Vianna fan but even his part was almost unbearable after the impact Tom’s part had.
-
I feel like this part engages more of your senses because of the audible interaction between the wheels and the brick/rough streets/pavement which in turn you can feel a phantom sensation of it through your feet. Experientially loaded feedback making it more like a three dimensional skateboard video.
-
When he kickflipped into the brick bank, he hit his wedding ring on the pole on the way off, hence the subtle "ding." Loved that. The whole part impressed me and he delivered a solid ender. Rewatched it and will again.
-

What's funny is by definition (mine, at least), a good skate video is supposed to bring such stimuli. Of course how well it's done here is particularly exemplary, but it also hits quite hard in a context where only so many (big name) videos genuinely try anymore.
-
I miss England :(
-
did he do the nollie fs 360 line with someone else's board? just noticed a nike sticker on the nose after my 10th viewing.
skating another person's deck seems so impossible to me, another reason tom knox is the greatest
-
I love that they included that flatground fakie flip bail. It felt like it was in response to the San Francisco Atlantic Drift where he does all the flatground fakie flips in a row and it seems like a trick he just never misses. That's the type of subtle editing choice that I love about this part.

I think there is zero chance Harris would have gone for this angle if Knox was going to manual. But might have happened accidentally, who knows? That’s the type of shit I’d only consider with someone like Knox, accidentally getting into the manual but pulling through.

It would be cool if they gave Tom soty.
With all these soty campaigns over the past 5 years, it’d be really refreshing to see it go to someone who wasn’t putting out footage/ads with the intent to win that shit.
He seems just hyped to still be able to skate, and film while being a father to three young girls.

The way he filmed that line was completely fine. It's not even close to how Strobeck would film that. Jacob nails it in this part. I agree with the general sentiment, however the brick ledge is freshly waxed so I assume the Boardslide was planned. Which is notably crazy in its own right, considering he has to come out of the Bs 360 at the right point and angle.

I am not the biggest fan of tight zooming but I thought it was tasteful and went well with all the fisheye footage. It's easy to lose momentum in the edit on zoomed out, steady long lens footage.

Second viewing and I’m just feeling thankful that this exists. Wow.
-
This part really emphasises the idea that no trick in your part should be considered a 'filler'.
-
Stoked to see brother Sparrow has a couple tricks in there, bought grilled cheese toasties off him in Austria once...if anyone is into snowboarding, his parts are always fun to watch.
I live just outside London but never really travel into town to skate, this part is making me want to go and have a little rummage around down there.
-
I love how dedicated he is to flatground and how consistent he must be to throw so many into the middle of his lines. They're like mini panic moments that add to the fun and drama.

That was such a delight. He has such an original approach that's tasteful and fun to watch, not to mention at spots most would deem unskateable.
Never forget that Emerica cool guy'd the fuck outta him at one point. Now look at him.
Glad europeans don´t have to kiss that much ass/move to the states etc. anymore. Somewhere in a parallel-universe there is a emerica stoner-rock dude with a dirty ringer-shirt named Tom Knox. The homies crack open PBRs over his long creative lines and spot approach.

It's so much more easy to get away with daytime skating in Europe, not really worth it to film at night. I mean, even if you get busted, cops are rarely involved. Also what Tenterhooks says, night sessions don't go well with a tight family schedule. ;)
-
This is pure gold! This is immediately added to the little list in my memory, which states how creative skating should look!
...sidenote - I was watching it first on my tv, and then my girlfriend suddenly asked if "all those skaters ever skate anything new" - All I could say is that she was literally looking at one of the masters at finding skateable stuff!

All this.

SOTY is not even relevant to this. This is genuinely creative, new, unseen and unbelievable. It’s modern but timeless. I totally get the evocations of Video Days Gonz, Suciu, PJ WHL and Ricky in EE3. And that’s the company it should be in, not Jamie Foy, Daveed, Milton, Leo etc.
SOTY is beneath this part, this skating.

A list of some easters eggs included in this gem. Now, I kinda want to look for the other ones Jacob Harris is talking about. It's been a while since I've watched a part multiple times every day since it's out. This is beautiful
Felt compelled to explain the significance of these clips. Whilst me and Tom were filming this first line everybody else who was there had already found out that Ben had died, but they decided not to tell us until we were finished. So as Tom rolls away from the switch tre flip, those few seconds of video were the last seconds of our lives before we found out that our friend was gone and our insides were all kicked out. It seems like a rare thing to have such a precise record of a moment in which your emotional landscape is changed forever. We went back on Ben’s anniversary and filmed the second clip as our our way of marking it because we didn’t know what else to do really. That’s why we have the shot of the photo of Ben at Grosvenor Sq, that many of you will have seen is always on my coffee table. Love you Ben and love you @t0mkn0x ❤️ A day like that never again please
-
That's truly heartbreaking and ridiculously beautiful at the same time.
