To the boys skating 139/5.25/8" trucks as opposed to 129/5.0/7.6-7.7" ones: how does it feel and why'd you go wider?

I'm setting up a 7.75 but not sure what to go with. I skate frankentrucks with stage 10 indy hangers but I only have 139's stocked up so I'm trying to figure out if sourcing a pair of 129 hangers is worth it.

Ok

This is my biggest conundrum with 7.75s: 5.0s or 139s. In my lifetime I probably skated best on 7.75 139s, but it was short lived compared to much more time on 5.0s: when I hop on a 7.75 with 5.0s a kickflip just seems ‘normal’ (I’m sure it’s still ugly). Blah blah blah. 129s are kind of a different beast for me, more wild, quicker turning, more pop, less stability. The good dude Frozen Industries had some 129s for sale, I’d hit them up. Narrower trucks turn quickly, and flip easier. I like that.

Noble: what’s the wb on that 7.5 baker? With 54s!! Buck. The narrow boards, big wheels was for sure a thing in my skate circle, late 90s.

I do still have 129s, was contemplating keeping them to make a fun mid-90s setup but if I do that I will probably just run 5.2 lows. Going to post some of the rando partially skated Indys I have laying around in the E&C section later this week.

@Deekay when I first bought it from the shop I thought it was just a 7.5 cuz it had 7.5 etched on the top ply on the top truck hole area and it measured out to 7.5 even, there was no size sticker on it but I was certain it was 7.5, but I just looked online and I don’t think baker makes a plain 7.5 sized deck anymore, couldn’t find one anywhere, even on their online store, they just make a 7.56, so maybe it is a 7.56?

@ok it has a 14 inch wheelbase even, and it’s about 31.6 inches long; the wheels are worn down to about 52mm now actually, still got that 54mm spit classic shape wideness to it tho

Cool, thanks! Sounds like I'll have to go hunt. I'm in Europe so it would probably be best for me to get some around here, but good lookin out!

93 shape
7.625 14wb
5.0 lo
52 99du fa

This is the best shape I've ever ridden fuck me. Perfect snap and pop with the venture lows. Short wb but feels really long and weirdly wide in a good way...

Is amazing for flip tricks and scoop of tres.

Most notably of all I was pushing really hard and just ollie'ing over slabs of concrete and I found that the control that I had doing that was similar to the control of a wide deck. But it has all the benefits of a skinny deck

I skate an 8.5, risers, and at least 56mm wheels, even though I skate mostly smaller street stuff. Just bought a zip zinger thats 7.75 at it's widest point though, so I'm in with you tiny bois now.

Edit: grammar

I barely felt the difference going from 7.5 to 7.75, i think i wouldn't be able to tell the difference without a measuring tape now.

The last few months i've mostly skated an 8.25, but i set up an 8in chocolate deck recently with venture lows and some 44mm boardycakes, and I swear it feels exactly like the 7.75s I was on.

If you ever get the chance I strongly suggest giving Magenta's 7.75 a go, really nice shape and good wood.

Just found out Brandon Turner's switch hardflip down carlsbad was done on a 7.25... Let's keep that in mind while setting our 7.5-7.75's up to do flatground

Wow. Whered you learn that? I definitely could do hard flips better on a 7.5 than a 8" but did not try a 7.25 yet lol

There's an instagram account called @proskatersetups that's posting pro setups and someone asked what size he rode in his Guilty part and while doing that switch hardflip, the guy said he asked Brandon who said 7.25 and that he wasn't kidding...

That's sick. I think my smallest ever was a 7.4. I actually hope Shorty's does a bunch more reissues (AKA Olson, Smolik etc). I'd buy the shizzle out of those. Probably in 7.5-7.75 though ha

That would be the best, I guess we'll see what happens when they're done printing 600 000 more Muska silhouette graphics.. They would be stupid not to make some other ones as well.

Out of curiosity, are there any decks in the 7.6-7.75 range with a 14.25 WB? Or any about 31.5 in length for that matter?

Closest I know of is the Polar 7.875 with 14.25wb.

Great deck and shape if you need a longer wb.

Hey pals,
I ride an 8.0 or 8.06 but I (hopefully) consider myself a 7.75 ally and I saw this on sale and thought of you all. I hope it's ok to post this here instead of sale gear thread. I also love Don Pendleton artworks. X)

There's a Koston 101 reissue floating around with (Buddha drinking a slurpee graphic slick)
That's 7.625 x 32.2 with a 14.125 wb

Don't see dimensions like that much

Ah yeah don't see those dimensions much at all. Really wish there were more options. I'm a short guy but stocky so I like a longer WB but skinnier deck.

Just saw that SC makes a 7.75 with more "normal" dimensions but their kicks are way too steep for my liking

7.8"/31.375"/13.75" Visit
50mm Triclops
129 Indys

This is the first sub 8" I've skated in a many years. Really enjoying it.

Not sure about 7.75 with a 14.25 wheelbase but DGK makes the above deck in 7.75 x 31.5 with a 14.5 wheelbase. Why anyone would put a 14.5 wheelbase on a 31.5 length board is beyond me; this deck was at my local shop and I measured it and everything and it really did have a 14.5 wheelbase. Almost wanted to buy it just to see how it would skate but decided against it at the last second. Those dimensions just have “frustrating session” written all over it. Here’s the skatewarehouse link to the board with the dimensions outlined just for reference:

Saw Kevin B’s (skates for dc/dgk, not sure how to spell name) story and he had this set up and was popping the shit out of tricks. I’m actually really interested to try something like this, test a theory: I maybe only need 14” wb when the board is bigger than I should maybe ride.
I’ve got so many old, dusty, not dead yet boards tho. Just need to suffer thru the stack

I had always assumed that 14.5 was a typo lol. What’s the nose and tail then? Must be tiny. I’ve had the most fun recently on a 8.25x32x14.5 and I’ve ridden 8.0 decks with >14.25 WB (I.e. Real decks) with some success, so I wouldn’t mind trying this 7.75x14.5 haha.

Nose is around 6.6 and tail is around 6.2. I was also eyeballing this deck as I like narrow decks (7.875-8.06) with longer wheelbases.
